The idea for this blog started on a side street in Brighton Beach Brooklyn. I was on my way to pick up my guitar which was being repaired by a luthier in the neighborhood. A glorious scent of baked goods was wafting out of a small store on Brighton 11th Street called Brick Oven Bread. The bakery is run by Georgians (the country, not the state), and that fantastic smell was a traditional Georgian bread called Khachapuri, and at that very moment, it was being carefully removed from a tandoor style clay oven. The hot, round (flat) bread tasted just as good as it smelled, and it was clear that I stumbled upon yet another great food that I had never heard of. This type of thing happens to me…a lot. I’m a full time, professional musician. I’m not a chef, not a restaurant critic, and I’m not hip to the top trendy restaurants in NYC. I do have a passion for food, and as a full time musician for nearly 20 years, I have acquired a skill for finding affordable, tasty food from all corners of the city, with origins from across the globe. My work (gigs/sessions) constantly take me to different neighborhoods, and I recently started compiling notes on my phone to keep track of some of my favorite restaurants, food carts, bakeries, and so on. A blog seemed like a great way to not only organize my notes, but also a great way to share my favorite findings. I will only be posting the good stuff, nothing negative. Some posts may morph into a restaurant review, especially if it’s a particular place that I’ve had several good experiences with and have a few items to point out. Comments and suggestions are always welcome, thanks for checking out my New York Ethnic Food Blog!
