Mini Grey Sartorial action hero, Traction Man, returns! We really enjoyed reading this story together and we hope to see more stories in this series in the future. Oct 17, Ruth rated it it was amazing Shelves: I think MG is wonderfully imaginative. She writes and illustrates with great humour. She gives inanimate objects life and so scrubbing brush is Traction Man's friend. Her eye for detail is phenomenal and she is brilliant at making fun of popular culture. This story reminds me of aspects of toy story, where the protagonist, Traction man takes himself too seriously, but has his undoing at the end.

My nephew barely even looked at this book he was multi-tasking by thumbing through The Astonishing Secret of Awesome Man , which was apparently more gripping than Traction Man , and my niece didn't even crack a smile although, she's currently trying on personalities, and right now she's trying on lippy and too cool for school, so who knows wheher she really liked the book or not. Careful observation of the pictures in this story will reveal that they're still funny, but alas, the story just doesn't have the same appeal as the pictures.

Maybe Traction Man's next mission should he choose to accept one will be more fun. Apr 07, Jim Erekson rated it liked it Shelves: I probably should have read the first installment in this series before this one. I spent the whole time wondering why he was called "traction" man. I shelved this as a graphic novel, because there's a lot here that draws on the comics. I looked for a long time at the end sheets before starting, and it really immersed me in the pop-culture advertised toys world. I enjoy the idea that the story starts from Traction Man's point of view instead of the boy's.

This makes the imagined world more in th I probably should have read the first installment in this series before this one.

Traction Man and the Beach Odyssey

This makes the imagined world more in the foreground. Grey does a lot to minimize my active participation in the boy's world, instead letting much of the action continue from the toy's point of view. I think this is a difficult trick to pull off.

Not much of a plot to speak of. Toy and boy go to beach, dog loses doll, girl finds doll, boy finds girl and they play together. It's the pop culture jokes that keep things moving in this book! Oct 03, Natalie rated it really liked it Shelves: Traction man and scrubbing brush go to the beach, go swimming in the sea and explore the rockpool.

They are suddenly swept out to sea but saved by a little girl who takes them to her sandcastle with her dolls. Unusual and interesting illustrations. This is a book that would appeal both to boys and girls. It's a great book for school as you can relate it to a number of subject areas including: Art - You could create some 'photos' traction man and scrubbing brush may have taken on their holiday, o Traction man and scrubbing brush go to the beach, go swimming in the sea and explore the rockpool.

Sep 06, Linda Robinson rated it it was amazing. This is genius storytelling.

The art will provide continuous entertainment to a youngster reading alone, and has huge potential for playing on the floor with a child. When I find a book I want to share, I'll usually get two - one for the child and one for parents to put away for safekeeping. This is a two book acquisition. Witty, busy, visually stimulating, encourages creative thinking and play. Mini Grey clearly understands that early readers are clever and inquisitive. Wonde What an adventure!

My daughter and I love the imagination, humor and details in the Traction Man books. We have checked them out of the library so often that I decided all 3 need to be in our permanent home collection. It's a hard call, but this one may be my favorite because she introduces a female who becomes a friend. Also, the fashion dolls don't need to just be rescued, as in the previous books, but they take an active part. We hope Mini Grey will continue to write and illustrate many more books.

I love the tongue-in-cheek nature of these books, and the detailed outfit descriptions.

He is a superhero who has a Scrubbing Brush as his loyal sidekick. In this book Traction Man and his sidekick go on holiday to the beach. They start off their adventure underwater where they explore the Wide Ocean looking to befriend new creatures. However Traction Man is called on duty when a new member of the family- Truffles nannies dog starts attacking the picnic.

Traction Ma Book Review 1: Things take a turn for the worse when Truffles buries Traction Man in a bed of sand. Scrubbing Brush comes to save his friend but they both get washed away by an enormous wave. Both Traction Man and Scrubbing Brush encounter many obstacles but just like any other superhero Traction Man saves the day. I think this is a stimulating and fun book to read with the class as it uses a lot of childlike imagination. Grey uses everyday objects and brings them to life for example the Scrubbing Brush or even Traction Man himself.

She gives them a personality and a voice which is an amazing way to help children discuss or explore their own household resources. The book has fantastic, entertaining illustrations which is always helpful for the younger children. Also the flow of the text can be confusing for younger readers as it is scattered across the pages. Overall this is a great book.

Jul 29, Romelle rated it it was ok. This book is full of childlike imagination with characters that children will adore. In Traction Man and the Beach, a boy loses his toy and brush during a visit to the beach. The action figure Traction Man and a scrubbing brush his loyal pet get swept up in a sea of adventure, and this is where the story begins.

The story is full of dialogue set up like speech bubbles. Mini Grey successfully captures the wild imagination of a child with dialogue and action that is genuine.

The illustrations This book is full of childlike imagination with characters that children will adore. The illustrations are entertaining and fun. However, this is a book may not appeal to the vast majority. It's a book that can only be appreciated by those who can relate to playing with toy figures and the "pretend-play" that goes on. It is offbeat and quirky- the sign of the times. For me, it loses much of the literary quality I like in a picture book.

But it's not about me I thought it was okay 2 stars. Young readers will like it and give it 3 stars. My fondest memories of our kids on our camping vacations were their adventures with their action figures and dolls as they crouched near a tiny rill that ran through our campsite. They spent hours and hours of creative imaginative play using the surrounding sticks, rocks, bugs, and, yes, trash. This book captures the essence of that fun and is hilarious to boot. The illustrations are just right. They include layer upon layer of fun, drama, humor, and action yet they Oh, man, this one's a keeper!

They include layer upon layer of fun, drama, humor, and action yet they are not too cluttered. I love the page as the boy steps onto the beach for the first time and the words "big and sparkly" dance in the sky over the water as if they had a right to be there even if they aren't part of the plot.

And, the sand on the "fully posable" dolls is so realistic I had to look twice. The other Traction Man books are great as well. I hope even more are to come!
