The Dangers of Deceiving a Viscount
There are numerous encounters between Viscount and Phoebe, but none of them — and I mean none of them — catch fire. No chemistry, no nothing. Matters are hampered even further, but a few heavy-handed appearances by the happy-and-fecund-beyond-belief couples from the previous novels in the trilogy. Sometimes these kind of appearances in books are fun and sometimes they are nauseating. Sadly, these are of the latter variety. I love historical romances. I love being blown away by a great historical romance. But my tolerance for the lesser variety seems to be getting lower and lower.
This one is average. And from a writer capable of better, it is a disappointment. Save my name, email, and website in this browser for the next time I comment.

I did like this book, but there were times when it dragged on to let everyone know how wrong it is to judge people by the way they look. There was a long drawn out chapter ll about it, of which I could not see happening.

But that is just me. Also the end of the book, it was too HEA And the ending interlude I never got a good feel for the hero character. I think some of the characters needed more development. I cant say I liked or dislik I did like this book, but there were times when it dragged on to let everyone know how wrong it is to judge people by the way they look. I cant say I liked or disliked anyone. I was MUCH more pleased with this book. I loved Lady Phoebe and Will. They were horrible but I loved Phoebe's responses to their shenanigans.

I had a good feeling about Phoebe in book 1 and I was right. Hands down, the best in the series! Jan 08, Shelly rated it liked it. I'm glad this series ended on a high note. This book was definitely the best of bunch. Phoebe was my favorite of Fairchild ladies. I also liked Will, although I thought more could have been done with his character. Overall, this series was a little disappointing. Feb 20, Sandra Munger rated it really liked it. Pheobe is the last single one. She has been helping supporting her sister and cousin with her sewing. Now she doesn't need to because they hae both married. But the person who has been selling her dresses forces her into going to an estate in the country to make clothing for the viscount's sisters. They develop a relationship but he doesn't want to marry a seamstress and she is afraid to tell him the truth.
Nice ending to the series. Sep 12, Michelle rated it it was ok. I didn't care for him overly much. He seduced her and then every time he saw her in public, he was awful to her. The hidden identity was a bit overdone, she could have told him who she was a lot sooner and then his response was over the top considering he wasn't respectful of her to begin with. Oct 22, Genieve Ong rated it liked it Shelves: It's somewhat uncomfortable for me to read. Idk why deception isn't something I hate but with this one I found myself feeling scared and a bit anxious for the heroine..
I had to skim some sentences cause reading them makes me sooo nervous Feb 09, Angela rated it it was ok. Absolutely loved this one best of all! Emotions run high, but a wonderful weaving of stories andlives. Nov 23, Melissa rated it it was amazing. I love this author. Dec 06, Velvet Fen rated it it was amazing.
This is a great read. Jun 25, Avid rated it liked it. Traditional RN with a house party in the country and blackmail. Phoebe is forced by her shopkeeper contact to satisfy a massive order for 2 new wardrobes. She heads to Bedfordshire and promptly falls in love with the son of the earl, Viscount Summerfield. And the crisis is quite emotional. Mar 28, Oleta Blaylock rated it really liked it.
This story is one of those plots. Will has been traveling abroad enjoy the freedom of living away from the strictures of London society. When a letter arrives telling Will that his father has had a seizure and to come home at once he hurries back. He finds a house that is disrepair and his siblings are in dire straits the worse is that his father is unable to speak or write.
After several months William commissions a wardrobe to be made for his sisters. This alas is where Lady Phoebe Fairchild comes to meet our hero. The woman that she has been selling the gowns she creates through blackmails her into going to Wentworth Hall and making the dresses. We once again learn the price of deceiving those that we love. Will Darby is intelligent, adventurous and honorable. He is also more than a little self-righteous and at a complete loss on how to deal with his brothers and sisters.
Being stuck in the country is chafing. He longs of the tents of the desert or the palaces of India. For the most part I liked Will. Phoebe is caught in a web of her own deceit. She never meant to hurt anyone she just wanted to help raise money for she and her sister and cousin to make successful matches. Phoebe is an artist and as a member of the Quality there are no real outlets for her creativity.
To make matters worse she is very good at what she does so her work is in great demand. Phoebe is also a dreamer. She is afraid that she will never make a match mostly because she is so shy in public. It also doesn't help that she is surrounded by such strong personalities in Ava and Greer. When she is blackmailed into handling the Summerfield commission she thinks only of going there and doing her job. She doesn't want to become involved in the daily lives of those that live in the house.
It isn't long before she is drawn into the lives of those that call Wentworth Hall home. Luckily it isn't until after she has finished all the dresses that she is found out and her heart is broken. Things do work out but not before great deal of misery and heart ache. Overall this is a very good story and a credit to the Historical Romance genre.
There are a few slow spots but they are easy to get through. London writes wonderful characters that you want to learn all about.
Unfortunately some of those are left without a story which is a little irritating. I enjoyed the story enough to put in on my keeper shelf. I read this a while ago, so I can't remember everything that happened, but it was really good! She gets sent to Summerfield's home where he's just gotten back from galavanting around the globe because his father is very ill and he needs to take care of the estate and his younger siblings 2 sisters and a brother, I believe. His siblings are practically heathens, and Phoebe is supposed to be designing and sewing dresses for the sisters.
Phoebe poses as a widow and she and Summerfield end up falli I read this a while ago, so I can't remember everything that happened, but it was really good! Phoebe poses as a widow and she and Summerfield end up falling for each other, but she wasn't of his station, so all it could ever be was an affair It gets fairly complex. I couldn't handle it if I were her. But it all turns out all right. In the last 3 pages or so. Okay, so I've read LITERALLY 1 page of this book about 3 days ago and can't remember anything that happened, but last night, I dreamt that the main character had a baby out of wedlock and the baby ended up being blind, which wasn't surprising, considering the baby-daddy was blind.
So the husband was all like, "You're still seeing your baby-daddy, aren't you? Is that really what this book is about? Did I read that somewhere?
The Dangers of Deceiving a Viscount — All About Romance
THIS is the thing on Amazon though! Knowing this, her employer threatens to expose Phoebe if she refuses to travel to rural Bedfordshire to sew gowns at the home of William Darby, Viscount Summerfield. Phoebe reluctantly agrees, and posing as widowed dressmaker Madame Dupree, she travels to Summerfield's estate to create gowns for his wild, untamed sisters. Soon, Phoebe and Will are involved in an intense affair that's very likely doomed, as Will must wed a noblewoman—which Phoebe is, but Madame Dupree is not. Should she reveal her deceit, making her a worthy bride for Summerfield?
Or should she keep up the charade, lest he despise her for her duplicity? She must not be quite as innocent as I thought! I'm excited to read! Feb 24, Emanuellen Trizi rated it did not like it. Jesus Almight, how I've hated this lord! Summerfield is by far the most self-assured caracter that I ever seen and all the "do you know with whom you are talking to" maked me sick in so many levels throught the book that I was pleading that Phoebe get back to London and let this bastard alone.
The end is beautiful, but predictable. I am finished with Julia London books.

Her caracters are annoying in a way that make me hate them the most of the book. Une petite romance historique qui m'a bien plu. Pas la meilleure que j'ai pu lire mais pas mauvaise. A la suite de cela il va devoir reprendre d'une main de fer la maison. Aug 03, Tonileg rated it it was ok Shelves: Historical English romance with a well born lady that wants to be in trade as a high fashion seamstress who finds love the another titled Lord who mistakes her for a light skirted seamstress instead of a innocent noble lady.
Lady Phoebe Fairchild has been making money as the modiste, Madame Dupree and she is being blackmailed to make a wardrobe for Lord William Darby, the Viscount of Summerfield's young sisters who will be coming out that season. Lord William makes mistakes, lots of them, but alw Historical English romance with a well born lady that wants to be in trade as a high fashion seamstress who finds love the another titled Lord who mistakes her for a light skirted seamstress instead of a innocent noble lady.
Lord William makes mistakes, lots of them, but always with the best interests for his beloved family. Lady Phoebe hides in plain sight and is treated abominably by the Darby family. Physical violent, verbal abuse and sexual harassment by Lord William's younger brother, so she gets the total treatment by that crazy messed up family while they don't know that she is a connected rich titled woman.
I didn't like this as much as the other books in the series because everyone is making only bad decisions. There was a balance missing of sweetness that I usually find in Julia London 's well written romance novels.
