This is a movie that offers a glimpse into a seldom-seen world, and it is also a character study that looks deeply into the behavior of three very different men who might have loved each other under different circumstances. Trengove shoots the film in intimate wide-screen, getting in close to the performers as their characters tamp down explosive feelings, often letting the spectacular landscapes behind them break down into soft-focus abstractions. John Trengove's feature debut is an emotive and powerful story of intolerance and social stigma in a deeply conservative environment. A refreshing coming of age story from a director who manages to see beyond the controversial subject matter to find the compelling human stories within.

It's a poignant, insightful mix of belonging and longing, with an underlying sense of danger that leads to a surprising twist.
