The book's stories, generally, are a lot less dark and cruel than many of the much better known Grimm fairy tales. These are stories collected by a much-respected contemporary of the Brothers Grimm. It's been said that he told the stories more truly to how they were told to him, but that also means they're less "gussied-up" for storytelling, if you will.

I really enjoyed this collection! There's a good variety with a bit of repetition, as one might expect.

They are short and easy to read in bits between other things. A lot of these stories are very short like, a couple sentences short , so even if you don't have much time, you can still get some reading practice in.

The caveat is that some of these stories were bizarrely simple. One day, a man joined her and confessed his love to her, and the girl gladly accepted it.
