Compared with the other Nancy Clancy books, adults will love this one. The ending will bring a tear to your eyes when you read it to your kids.
But, unlike the other Nancy Clancy books, my daughter did not want me to read it to her over and over. She liked this fourth book ok, but the earlier three were her favorite books for a while, after first reading them. It is good for kids to think about past and present and how adults were once kids, just like them. And, the fancy words, as always, will increase their vocabularies. But, if your child has never read a Nancy Clancy book before, start with one of the others. My young child loves this series.

As an adult reading them to her, at times, they can be a bit repetitive as the character's name is repeated numerous times on each page. I have "Nancy Clancy. If your child under 9 or 10 wants a chapter book series to read alone this is good, but if you read with them My granddaughter absolutely loves Fancy Nancy! Without giving away the ending, the girls also find out about life-long friendship. I love Fancy Nancy. I have been reading the Fancy Nancy picture books with my niece since she was little.
Now that she is eight we have been going through the Nancy Clancy chapter books. I think that the Secret of the Silver Key is my favorite book yet of the chapter books. Nancy gets a new desk at a garage sale.

She finds a silver key in one of the drawers. Her and her best friend Bree are detectives and their latest case is to figure out what this key opens. The mystery was fun. I enjoyed it a I love Fancy Nancy. I enjoyed it a lot. If you like Fancy Nancy then this is a must read! Great vocabulary lesson and now Jocelyn cannot wait to read Nancy Drew books! May 02, Karla rated it really liked it. This was probably my favorite of this cute series. The mystery of the key and friendship. My daughter squealed with delight at the ending. All three kids loved it It was a fun, interesting mystery story with beautiful illustrations that engaged not only my 5 year old daughter but also her 10 and 7 year old brothers! I also liked the vocabulary words that were introduced. It was our favorite of the four and I was surprised that our girls kept asking for me to read 'just one more chapter. Overall, this is an engaging and well-written story.

I also like that the mystery was intriguing, but did not involve a dangerous situation or undue drama.
The black and white illustrations complement the tale nicely and its fun to see Nancy as she gets older. The illustrations are wonderfully expressive. Jun 07, Margie rated it really liked it Shelves: This is book four in the series, but the first one that I have read. It can stand alone, but it is so good I recommend starting from the beginning of the series. As an adult I enjoyed the story. I would enjoy reading it to a younger reader or having a middle grade student read it to me. I was impressed with Jane O'Connor's introduction of new vocabulary words. She used the word in a sentence, then explained it's meaning. I thought it was a clever way to expand a new readers vocabulary.
The picture This is book four in the series, but the first one that I have read. The pictures in the book are a nice complement to the story. They will keep a young readers attention if someone is reading it to them. I would recommend this for anyone who is looking for short chapter books for gifts. I will definitely buy the firsts ones for my granddaughters shelf.

Nancy and Bree decide to interview their neighbor Mrs DeVine. Nancy and Bree's sleuthing leads them on an adventure to solve the mystery. They learn a very important lesson about the gift and treasure of friendship. The book has cute illustrations and Nancy enjoys using some French words as well as some interesting descriptive vocabulary words.

I was wrong she loved the story and already has me getting more of these books. This particular story was about Nancy and her best friend Bree they wanted to find the owner of the key that was hidden in a secret compartment of her "new" desk.
They want to find the owner so they can find out what the key opens. I think I could have done without Nancy and Bree discluding another little girl and being a bit more friendly. However, overall this is a very cute read that my daughter and I loved reading together! May 17, Mymcbooks rated it it was amazing. Nancy Clancy was excited to be attending the estate sale. As estates were like mansions full of big and fancy furniture for sale.

However, what they end up finding is something much better. Great read for young children. My daughter absolutely loves the Nancy Clancy series and really enjoyed reading this book with me.

Who wouldn't like to find their old furniture hiding secrets? Besides the book being just okay, I loved the bookclub. It was a mother daughter one for year olds, and it was adorable!
