Sadie is out for a jog and notices the child going into the street and before she knows it, she is following him. Swooping him into her arms she's still to late to avoid Liams car. The child is unharmed, but not Sadie. Liam is determined to get her help, but she won't go anywhere with him. He finally gets her to let him take her to her mother who is a nurse--and the last place she wants to be. Since she has to spend time with her family she want to make him pay, but it backfires.

Her mom talks him into walking the dogs for Sadie thinking it will be a walk in the park. They never expected there was a ring of puppy thefts going on and the puppies they walk being stolen from their owner. Join Sadie and Liam, along with an angel on an adventure of making new friends, delivering a baby, missing puppies and men with guns. Can they each put all the bad things from their pasts behind them to move forward, or will the hurts stay with them enough that neither one can move on to the present and possibly a future.

Sadie is a hard working young woman that doesn't have any real spare time for herself.

Sadie's favorite job has to be her dogwalking business. She really loves all of her charges as if they were her own. She is out for a run when she spies a little boy in trouble and darts in to rescue him from being hit by a car. The car's driver was always in a hurry to get no where but injuring a young woman was the last straw for Liam's life.

Liam thinks he's going crazy because there is an angel watching ov Sadie is a hard working young woman that doesn't have any real spare time for herself. The little boy's family has some unexpected turns and in need of aid. Will Sadie let Liam help her? Will Liam admit his feelings? Who is taking these dogs? What about the little boy's family? It had moments of suspense which I loved , the dogs also loved and funny moments between Sadie and her family. This book had me surprised a couple of times, good surprises though. Sadie was quite the leading lady. I just wanted to hug her and tell her everything is ok and tell her you should be happy with who you are.

I could relate well with the things she struggled with and why she had issues with men an I really enjoyed reading His Devious Angel, book 2 in the Angels with Attitudes series. But he surprised me, turned out he was a hero a couple of. It was lovely watching the two of them come together and realize that they were perfect for each other.

It was one of those feely touchy ones that had ya laughing one moment and wanting to cry or at least very deeply empathize with the characters the next. Then as we get deeper in the story begins to unfold the problems both had when they were younger and it gets kinda emotional there for a bit and on top of it all they must work together to solve a dog napping! I read almost from start to finish it was so good and full of action and feeling I didn't wanna put it down!

Along comes Sadie, the dog walker among her many talents. A collision triggers their meeting, and to compensate for his carelessness, Liam takes over her dog walking chores, prompted by his unexpected angelic visitor.

I read this book in two sessions. Fast paced and clever, I was entertained from beginning to end, worried that Liam w I had the pleasure of reading His Devious Angel! If you want a refreshing, warm read, I highly recommend His Devious Angel. Now after reading His Devious Angel, a longer paranormal romance, I'm hooked. Since I'm a dog lover, I laughed and hooted through the antics of macho Special Ops Liam and the many dogs. And even if you're not a dog lover, you'll find yourself chuckling.

There's an angel with an attitude, a heartfelt lo I'm an avid reader, mostly of Historical or Contemporary Romances, but after reading 2 paranormal novellas of Mimi Barbour's, I found myself enjoying the flavor of paranormals. There's an angel with an attitude, a heartfelt love story of Sadie and Liam--both having way too more baggage than anyone should have--and a story of how families really do count and how rekindling lost family bonds and love can be so very rewarding.

Sassy heroine, strong hero. This is a couple to cheer for. Adding in the quirky guardian angel was a bonus.

When you dive into it, the first thing you're hit with is pain, but that's what happens when someone takes the inner workings of an abuse victim and adds symbolic imagery. The entire undercurrent of this book and - as I've read the second installment as well - the rest of the series has a deep undercurrent of exactly what goes through the psyche of a domestic and sexual abuse victim.

I lived it and survived it and I guess that's what makes Sadie so special and endearing and tragic. As is any abuse victim, she's conflicted down to smallest particle of her being. It hurts, the words you read from this book. The story takes an interesting turn when the fairy tale world that her late father wrote down in a book becomes reality. Passing through the roots of a weeping willow tree, Sadie is thrust into a strange land that challenges her in ways that even the horrid abuse at the hands of her step-father couldn't.

This book is to the literary world now what Wes Anderson films are in a world full of Magic Mike movies. It will challenge you.

You may NEED to read it more than once and you may need to read the second installment to fully appreciate it's richness. But if you open your mind and stretch back to the bygone era of literary symbolism that was Fauklner's As I Lay Dying, you will appreciate the shining jewel that is this book. My only hope is that the remainder of the series is as captivatingly painful as this one was.

And yes, I said painful. I belong to multiple fandoms and am a dyed-in-the-wool fangirl. What sort of fanperson would I be if I didn't enjoy a good feels trip? Jan 22, Silvia rated it did not like it Shelves: But intent aside, this was a bad novella short story? First off, it felt like only the first few chapters of a larger work. Like seriously, the plot doesn't even reach half the goodreads synopsis.

I understand there are other novellas in the series, and I usually like sagas with no individual storyline for the single installments, but here there is no story at all! Basically it's just dialogue, with little action to break it up and I mean this in the loosest sense of characters' movement being described in dialogue tags , set against a world which is barely described at all.

Please, keep in mind this is second-world fantasy. I want to be completely honest: The difference is that this is not something an amateur put online for free, it's published work you have to pay for. I found it so confusing. At first I was convinced the author was trying to convey Sadie's trauma, but it soon became apparent she just can't handle POV at one point the narration slipped from third person to first. I hope this was an uncorrected copy and they fixed it before publication. The dialogue tags were often absent, at times it wasn't completely clear who was speaking.

Honestly, I've only ever seen such a high dialogue ratio in beginners' works, and it often was more interesting banter than in this novel. The only thing that sparked my interest was Princess Faegria, which seemed she could become a decently-written villainess, but was still as under-developed as all the other characters please, repeat after me, trauma is backstory, not characterization.

I'm still not too sure of how I feel, reading about the rape of a child is never an easy thing, but towards the end when Sadie is in the world at the bottom of the tree, I started to wonder if imagining being in this place was how she disassociated herself from the abuse she is physically enduring at that moment. I feel like I need to know what is happening to her there, as it also doesn't seem to be a nice place for her, so I will be reading whatever comes next, and hoping for a peaceful outcome for her. The beginning is heartbreaking, the pain is almost tangible as Sadie's psyche starts to disintegrate. Then even the fantasy world she finds herself in is hideous. A lot of harsh imagery, but there is a weird sort of beauty in it's ugliness I suppose. It's like a nightmare you never want to find yourself, or anybody in. It made me bone weary after only 50 something pages.
