The only way to contract this mite is to come into direct contact with an infected animal. Other than perhaps the sniffing of an occasional dog who we pass on the streets, there is no way that she could have come in contact with a wild animal.

The veterinarian also explained that it is one of the worst things that can happen to an animal.
