Get Back
John adds, it's John playing the fab live guitar solo. John says don't let me down about Don't Let Me Down. Generally a loose, occasionally sloppy guitarist, he really took it up a notch for those solos. You dont get to be the biggest act in the world with sloppy work — each member of the band was an excellent player in their own right and they never shied away from work — just look at their output.
Bands these days can take years between albums, they appear like slackers compared to the Beatles. If you listen to the isolated tracks available everywhere nowadays you hear all kinds of slop and the occasional mistake. I saw a video clip in the studio not on the roof showing Lennon playing lead. Anybody familiar with this? In the USA at least, it was never in mono, the original 45 rpm was stereo for this. Was it released in mono for the UK? I love the video of this when they george during the solo and then realize he is not playing the cool solo.
We apologize for the inconvenience...
It was the Jan. That yielded the coda on the Past Masters version. Actually Lewisohn states that the 27th version is used by Spector as the LP version. Check the 30 January entry. But the 28th was used as the single version. Check the 11 April entry. According to this the single and LP versions are different recordings. A take from 27 January was used for the album and single mix. Funny, I have noticed it but never thought much about it. Going back, one of the reasons the other Beatles did not like Pete Best is that he did not party with them.
Yoko Ono is often blamed, but it was not Yoko per se but the fact that, once John and Yoko became inseparable, they soon brought along drugs that the others did not want to be a part of. He also ran through a good amount of money just as things were starting to get lean with the Apple Corps fiasco. When Ringo left, he felt the others were all getting on well and that he was the odd man out. George felt the same when he left. Despite the critical words during their public divorce, Paul and John admired each other.
Paul was desperate to keep the band going, and was clinically depressed after the split. He got a fair amount of backlash for announcing the split to promote McCartney, but the others knew that it was over.

But Paul and John were best when they worked together. The house in Tuscon was given to her in the divorce settlement. Joseph See was her first husband and McCartney does not ever reference him.

He was from Tucson and committed suicide there in But they all had an amicable relationship. He allowed McCartney to adopt his daughter. Why would Linda ever have gone back to Arizona to die? She was cremated in Tucson, and her ashes were scattered at the McCartney farm in Sussex.
I think that Billy Preston wrote this song and Let it Be. The Beatles with Tony Sheridan but Tony was the singer. And why had they played it already before they met billy the first time not counting their meeting in or so? I agree with you about the single and album using the same take after a couple of hours listening, so well done for spotting a mistake in the usually flawless Lewisoln books. How do I know? Ah — thought that would be the case. The little riffs, and the solo..
Does anybody know about the third vocal in the middle eight, which comes immediately after the first guitar solo? We all know Paul sang the regular tune and John the lower. I am a big fan of Get Back and have heard more than several hundred times each version of the song. On the LP and single versions, it is not clear whether there is the third vocal, but the Naked version clearly lacks it. But if you listen to the rehearsal version of Get Back on the same day, which is believed to be recorded from down the street as they set up for the roof top gig, you will hear the higher backing vocal in the middle eight.
Does anybody have idea on this? Fine lead guitar solo by John Lennon. Get Back from is The Beatles worst single. A good song must have either tension — or a good melody. But Get Back has neither tension nor melody. And McCartney sings with a ridiculous childish little voice. The singles were better before Yesterday , innovative and full of tension.

After Yesterday they released some singles by McCartney, all ordinary songs without tension. To each his own. You post with childish, self-centered, highly biased and bigoted prose. Your dual obsessions of loving all things Lennon and hating all things McCartney should be embarrassing you by now. The single version, the Let it Be version, or the …Naked version. Are you sure John Lennon plays the solo on Get Back? The covers in serious attempt. Also sad the group never recorded each Harrison song that was brought to the table. McCartney improvised various temporary lyrics leading to what has become known in Beatles' folklore as the "No Pakistanis" version.
This version parodied the anti-immigrant views of Enoch Powell , a member of parliament whose racially charged speeches had recently gained much media attention. The lyrics addressed attitudes toward immigrants in the United States and the United Kingdom: The lyrics included a line "You'd better get back to your Commonwealth homes".
On 23 January, the group now in Apple Studios [10] tried to record the song properly; bootleg recordings preserve a conversation between McCartney and Harrison between takes discussing the song, and McCartney explaining the original "protest song" concept. The recording captures the group deciding to drop the third verse largely because McCartney does not feel the verse is of high enough quality, although he likes the scanning of the word "Pakistani".
Billy Preston joined the Beatles on keyboards from 22 January, having been recruited by Harrison partly with a view to deter bickering among the Beatles. The group with Preston playing Fender Rhodes electric piano recorded about ten takes on 23 January. On 27 January they made a concerted effort to perfect "Get Back", recording about 14 takes. By this time the song had the addition of a false ending and reprise coda. After numerous takes the band jammed some old numbers and then returned to "Get Back" one last time in an attempt to record the master take.
This performance Take 11 was considered to be the best yet — it was musically tight and punchy without mistakes, though the song finishes without the restart. On the session tape, George Harrison comments "we missed that end"; this is the version heard on the Let It Be On 28 January [2] the group attempted to recapture the previous day's performance and recorded several new takes each including the coda.
Whilst these takes were good, they did not quite achieve the quality of the best take from the previous day. Harrison, the usual lead guitarist, had temporarily quit the group on 10 January, so Lennon worked out the lead guitar. The edit is so precise that it appears to be a continuous take, achieving the ending the Beatles had desired all along. This was a divergence from the concept of straight live performance without studio trickery, but a relatively minor one, and avoids the somewhat abrupt ending of the version that is used on the Let It Be The Beatles performed "Get Back" along with other songs from the album as part of the Beatles' rooftop performance , which took place on the roof of Apple Studios in Savile Row , London on 30 January , an edited version of which was included in the Let It Be film.
During the third, which marked the end of the rooftop performance, the Beatles were interrupted by the police who had received complaints from office workers nearby. After the police spoke to Mal Evans , he turned off Lennon and Harrison's amplifiers only for Harrison to switch them back on, insisting that they finish the song. It was during this period that McCartney ad-libbed, "You've been playing on the roofs again, and that's no good, and you know your Mummy doesn't like that At the end of the last rooftop performance of "Get Back", the audience applauds and McCartney says "Thanks, Mo" in reply to Maureen Starkey 's cheering.
The stereo single version, and that of the b-side, "Don't Let Me Down", were the first Beatles' recordings to feature Starr's drum kit in true stereo, mixed across the left and right channels. This utilised the then-fairly new 8-track recording technology and was a result of the growing popularity of stereo over mono.
The single began its week stay in the charts on 26 April at No. It was the first Beatles single to enter the official UK singles chart at the top.

Two weeks after the song's chart debut it hit No. Neither Apple nor Capitol Records created a picture sleeve for the single — it was simply packaged in a sleeve stating "The Beatles on Apple". This version also appeared in the albums 20 Greatest Hits , Past Masters and 1.

It was also included in the original line-up of the proposed Get Back album that was scheduled to be released during the fall of It was the Beatles' first single to be released in true stereo instead of mono as part of the "stereo only" movement gaining force in In both versions the lead guitar played by Lennon is in the left channel and the rhythm guitar played by Harrison is in the right channel.
The single was also released in the experimental PocketDisc format by Americom in conjunction with Apple and Capitol in the late s. When Phil Spector came to remix "Get Back" he wanted to make it seem different from the version released as the single, though both versions were the same take.
The previous unreleased Get Back albums included elements of studio chatter to add to the live feel of the recordings. In this spirit, Spector included part of the studio chatter recorded immediately before a take recorded on 27 January, slightly crossfaded it onto the beginning of the same master take recorded on January 28 , and added McCartney and Lennon's remarks after the close of the rooftop performance. This created the impression that the single and album versions are different takes. What made you want to look up get back? Please tell us where you read or heard it including the quote, if possible.
