Secrets to Die For (A Detective Jackson Mystery)

I'm glad I did because this was one of the bes mysteries that I've read and I've already recommended it to all of my friends. Apr 03, Tracey rated it really liked it. I like the fast pace of this book and although I had figured out what had happened it didn't spoil the story for me. Will definitely continue the series. Aug 15, Kim rated it really liked it Shelves: Another great crime thriller featuring Detective Jackson and the town of Eugene, Oregon. Was definitely book two in the series. At the very end, I thought I was going to get the answer to the cliffhanger in book one Which led to secrets, lies and murder, would Jackson find the common thread.

How far does one go to protect their children. A thriller that has several themes that come together, of the young figuring out who they are. Readers will get a tense flowing plot to the end. Aug 23, Amy Dexter rated it liked it. I quite like the way the author makes the detectives that little bit human and go wrong - not sensationalized. This story is all about a rapest who is attacking woman with what would appear to have no common traits or connections.

The rapest then appears to escalate in violence into murder. Nothing as it appears, quite a few good twists - frustrating sideline with detective Jackson's girlfriend - hope that resolves in next book! I liked the idea for the book. I really liked the fact that the police didn't somehow immediately ID the killer, and went down a few false paths. Sadly, the writing was slow and dry. I didn't feel like any of the characters were developed well. The plot felt like it moved slowly up until the very end. Siberian Well ,as usual, political soap box for this author.

I think I'm done with this author. Wow I love this series so far!

Jackson is always on the case! Can't wait to see what's coming next!!!! Well, I definitely won't be continuing the series. Detective Wade Jackson was just too much of a cliche for me. The way he bounded from clue to clue that had very little connecting them ruined the illusion that this was a real detective and that this was an actual occurrence. I wasn't able to suspend my disbelief. The reporter drove me insane.

She seemed so fake an had few redeeming qualities. Again, the bounding for clue to clue bothered me beyond belief. This book opens with Raina visiting her Well, I definitely won't be continuing the series. This book opens with Raina visiting her "ward" as a volunteer social worker of some sort. There's an altercation and she leaves, but is brutally attacked and killed. The plot seems alright so far- unfortunately this is just the first chapter or so. Enter Detective Wade Jackson is it just me or does anyone else think of the computer guy from Kim Possible when they hear that name?

We soon meet Jamie Jamie Lannister would die knowing that this simpering, underdeveloped, and obnoxious female shared his name. I think almost all Jamie's, fictional and real, would do the same who is paralyzed by grief and honestly reminds me of a tiny little mouse. Not that I have anything against mice. Anyways, we get to the suspects and lo and behold, a plot twist appears. A rather far fetched one at that, but I digress. The pathetic Jamie stands up for herself, we catch the bad-guy, and suddenly we're back to the family Raina was visiting before she was killed and the mother is arrested.

No idea WHY that last 2-ish page chapter was necessary, but it's not my book.

Secrets to Die For

It wasn't horrible enough to warrant a 1star, but it wasn't good enough for 2. Thus, I give it 1. To sum it up, don't bother. Detective Jackson is quickly becoming one of my favorites! This is the second book featuring the Eugene, Oregon homicide detective that I've read, and L. Sellers is one of those writers I'm going to keep following. When a series of rapes in the city of Eugene suddenly turns to murder, Detective Wade Jackson and his team are on the case.

But what they at first thought were crimes against women soon reveal themselves to be much darker hate crimes.

Jackson begins to question himself in this book, Detective Jackson is quickly becoming one of my favorites! Jackson begins to question himself in this book, asking how he feels about things and wondering if he's lost his edge when he doesn't clue into certain aspects of the case as quickly as he'd like. Then he suddenly finds himself racing against the clock to find the killer before he strikes again. In the midst of all this he's dealing with his teenaged daughter, an ex-wife who seems to be up to some of her old tricks, and his girlfriend's ex-husband trying to muddy the waters of their relationship.

It's a lot to deal with while you're trying to stop a dangerous criminal. But rest assured, with Jackson on the case the bad guys don't stand a chance.

Detective Jackson - Book Series In Order

This is a terrific mystery with twists, turns and questions flying every which way and it will keep you guessing the whole time. I had to shush my son from talking to me towards the end because I literally couldn't stop reading! I'm anxious to read the next one in the series, and hope Sellers and Jackson keep going for a long, long time! Sellers, is an underappreciatated author, who is well known on the West Coast but whose talent has not reached the East Coast.

Sellers is a solid writer , whose Detective Jackson mysteries are the type that are read in one sitting. This is a good example of that. Wade Jackson is faced with a brutal rape and murder with the evidence seeming to point to an obvious perp. Raina Hughes' body is found near the trailer home of a boy she was visiting in her work as a child advocate. Bruce and Cindy L. Bruce and Cindy Gorman are the obvious subjects of the investigation because they are the violent parents of the boy , Josh who Raina was keeping an eye on. But there are complications that arise that may point to another person of interest.

Meanwhile, besides investigating the murder, Jackson is trying to maintain his own relationship with Kera, who he hopes to marry as soon as her divorce becomes final. And he has a teenage daughter , Kate to care for too.

See a Problem?

Kera's almost ex is returning from duty overseas and hopes to salvage his marriage. Wade has a lot to balance on his plate. Then when some clues arise that seem to indicate that the Gormans might be innocent, Jackson starts to examine some cold cases with a similar MO. There may well be a serial killer loose in the Eugene, Oregon area. Once you read one of Seller's books, you too, will probably agree that she deserves more of a look. She may be one of the best writers of this genre. It was a controversial thriller that opened with the bombing of a birth control clinic, a young woman dead in a dumpster and, as Sellers says, a Bible study group that shared more than Good News.

Who knew that Sellers' first quiet effort would be followed by a series so successful that she now writes full time. The Sex Club was a written as a stand alone, and introduced Detective Jackson, an investigator that's stood the test of the series. Secrets to Die For dealt with a serial rapist, Thrilled to Death with society secrets, Passions of the Dead with home invasion and blackmail, Dying for Justice with police corruption and Liars, Cheaters and Thieves with con guys too beguiling to resist.

Sellers' many fans now expect a new Detective Jackson thriller year after year, and year after year, Sellers obliges. A former journalist, Sellers sets her thrillers in her home town, Eugene, Oregon, making her writing personal and compelling. The haunts of this Oregon university location are familiar, adding elements of fear and suspense that are barely contained as the pages of the thrillers fly by. Raina and her best friend Jamie are volunteers. Raina had hoped to say good-bye to Josh and find him happy.

Wade met Kera while investigating a bombing at the clinic. Their romantic dinner is interrupted by a call that the body of a young girl has been found at a wildlife observation lookout. There are several unsolved rapes still pending in Eugene, Oregon and now a girl is dead. The girl found at the lookout is Raina Hughes. Wade knows there must be a connection. Jamie knows the connection but is unwilling to share it with anyone.

Sellers novel touches on a prejudice so deep that it leads to murder. Feb 16, Bud Mallar rated it liked it.

This, and the first, are nice little whodunits - sometimes with a crazy twist. They each have set up the 'mystery' based upon major social issues - this one gay women and how they are, or aren't, accepted. As a whodunit, it was a wild ride - false trails, red herrings, and good police work winning out in the end, so from that viewpoint, no reason not to read the next in the series. This one wasn't quite as preachy as the first.

But, they aren't going to change the world either It was a quick two day read, kept me busy while my favorite Barclays Premier League soccer teams weren't doing so well. It's not going to hurt you, the world will continue to spin if you don't read them, but there's no harm in 'running away' from reality every now and then. Yes, I did buy books 3 and 4 today, if that tells you anything. Feb 23, Jeff Bottrell rated it really liked it.

This is the second in the series of police procedurals by L. She has based these books around Eugene, Oregon, with gruff, good-hearted Detective Jackson as her protagonist. Sellers has a gift for creating a compelling narrative that swiftly moves the reader through the plot without a lot of fluff. The story plays out just as a good police investigation. There are red herrings, blind alleys, and department politics to contend with. The book reads like an episode of Law and Order, compl This is the second in the series of police procedurals by L. The book reads like an episode of Law and Order, complete with a few moral lessons along the way.

In "The Sex Club," we learned to keep a sharp eye on our children, and to avoid extremist religious viewpoints with an unbending moral code. In both these first two novels, the fanatical parents wind up bringing great harm to their children through their misbegotten actions. Karma is tough in Sellers' universe!

Secrets to Die For, by L. Raina Hughes, a social worker, goes to an isolated trailer to check on a boy who has just been returned to his parents. But as she is on her way home, she is attacked, badly beaten, and killed. Wade Jackson at first thinks that it is the father whose house she left and arrests him, but things are far more complicated. There is a rapist running loose who, it begins to appear, rapes and beats up lesbians.

Raina was a lesbian, so maybe this rapist had stepped up his activities and is more violent. This is a very good book with many twists and turns. I finally got started on this book that I won here on goodreads. The series is about crime and passion which surrounds us every day.

We are given a sneak peek into the world of law enforcement as they meticulously perform investigations to solve different crimes while learning about the crooked minds of each perpetrator. Each novel is filled with anticipation, excitement and the thrill to help Detective Jackson and his squad with each case.

In the first book of the series, The Sex Club, Jackson is chosen as the point person for the case given his unique ability to find a solution in hard cases; a novel about sex, religion and politics. They learn about a sex club disguised as a religious organization that lures thirteen to fifteen year old teenagers into sex games that lead to actual sex, teenagers learn that abortion is an option when faced with the consequences of having sex.

Kera, the nurse at the clinic notices a pattern in the young patients coming in and asking for help. Time is racing and a killer who believes that God is on her side is out there searching for the next victim; Jackson fears that the killer may chose his daughter as his next target. Kera and Jackson work together to solve the mystery before another innocent person gets hurt. Sellers gives an important lesson on parent-child communication in this book and educating the young people about sex and its consequences should be done before they reach high school; a fact that remains true since most of the cases of early pregnancies are now with the pre-adolescents.

Secrets to Die For is the second book of the Jackson series. It is about a serial rapist with a fetish for homosexual women, a rapist who later turns into a murderer. Its dark plot begins when a social worker named Raina Hughes arrives at an out of town trailer home to visit and check on Josh and she is told to leave their property.

Josh a young boy with abusive parents, who has recently been reunited with his family. Jackson then suspects that the addicted father of the child may be the killer, but certain situations clear the man of his suspected crime. This novel is filled with twists which may leave you guessing on who is the real rapist and murderer of the women.

Sellers gave us a glimpse of the homosexual world and how man has reacted to them in this series. While most of us think that we are in control of our feelings towards homosexuals, some situations that arise test us and make us realize if we truly understand their situation. Aside from the first two novels in the series, The Sex Club and Secrets to Die For, you may want to read the other novels according to order:.

The series is not just about the passion that caused the crime; these also talk about current situations that the society faces on a daily basis, which you might have a personal battle too. The key to maintaining balance is always maintaining a clear communication between everyone from all walks of life.

Once we have understood these uncertainties and fears then we are slowly cleared from all the biases and judgmental accusations or thoughts. They say reading is a good way for man to learn and it is agreed that it is so. Learning new ideas and techniques can guide humanity into a world where there will be no hate, no prejudice, and no crimes. Each one plays a victim and a perpetrator, recognizing which one you are can help you in slowly transition from the victim to the victor. The idea of not doing to others, what you do not want to be done to you should always be remembered.

Detective Jackson exists because of one thing; he is here to be a role model in the fight to win against the unjust.
