Feels Like the First Time: A True Love Story
Although it is good, it starts out a little dull. His Father was forced to sell the farm he had spent years building up to the government. The loss of the land threw Father a curve which ultimately led to his death. Now Shawn lived in a trailer park. Shawn and Dawn became friend long before she was allowed to have a boyfriend. Their friendship grew over the years into a deep friendship. She would keep him company when his spirits were low. He fell in love with her and they began dating with very strict rules for Dawn to follow.
One night, he failed to get her home on time and Colleen told him she was not to see, talk, email, or fax things to her. However, when she was 18, she could look him up. Shawn is headed back to Enumclaw, years later, when he stopped in a nearby town to purchase a drink. When he saw the girl at the drive-through window, he immediately thought he recognized her. Then he saw the woman behind her and she was Dawn. The girl waiting on his was her daughter. He wants to become reacquainted with Dawn and possibly marry her. Will Shawn and Dawn even meet again to discuss how things worked out?

Will they stay in their own little worlds? Is this a second chance for love? I read Feels Like the First Time: I re-read it recently this past Thanksgiving and realized although I knew what was going to happen I was still rooting big time for this couple all over again! I loved reading a love story written from a man's perspective. The second time around I also noticed little details I missed the first time I read it. Very well done and beautiful. I grew up and went to high school in the late 70s so I could totally relate to the music, the dances, and the lingo.
Also Inmon knows how to carry the reader on the wave of romance and then build the tension and show the slamming door of what he and his high school sweetheart went through. In general, I'm not a huge fan of romance stories. However, a trusted person suggested that this was a book I'd find a worthwhile read. So I plugged a few bucks in the Kindle machine and downloaded it. The style of writing is very readable.
It is a straightforward first person telling of young love interrupted, life disrupted, and then adult love reestablished. Few individuals are as fortunate as Shawn and Dawn their names even rhyme to have such an earnest attachment as young people and then have the opportunity to reprise those feelings in mid-life adults. It is an easy read. No head scratching over arcane words. No need to read and re-read to make sure you understood what just happened and whether the author meant what you thought he meant.
I enjoy a book with a good flow and this book has it. There's a bit of fun and frolic with song titles. Pulls the reader in. Not a "got to stay up until the crack of dawn to see what happens" because it's pretty clear from the get-go that cataclysmic loss will eventually be resolved, but a book that I read without a lot of breaks. I'm presently perusing Dawn's book and wondering if we'll ever find out what her mother's problem was.

They understand and respect each other. It takes Hawk awhile to see his feelings but when he does he goes all out. He is always there for Ali and helping her. He supports her and in understanding. Watching him put it all out there was exciting and swoony.
He was a great character and his love of Ali and who she was flaws and all was sweet and precious. Her sister throws a wrench in their romance but also helps to move it along. She will drive you batty and have you wonder how hawk could be with her and not Ali from the beginning.
I loved seeing him realize that he is over his ex and is in love. It was enlightening and a fun ride. A story of love, friendship, letting go and moving on and family that will entertain and move your heart. One of the characters from the first book Last Kiss of Summer that I was so excited to learn more about was Hawk. His neighbor and friend is Ali who happens to be his ex-sister-in-law.
While Ali and Hawk have remained friends, things definitely get weird when her newly engaged sister strolls back into town. One little lie pretty much begins to blur the lines between two long-time friends. Feels Like the First Time is an absolutely enjoyable follow-up to the first book. Both are strong characters. Ali is super independent and always puts others needs ahead of her own. Hawk is so caring and finally ready to open his heart to love again after his divorce.

I love every single thing about Ali Marshall. She is a strong woman who runs her own business and is always there to take care of friends and family.
She also knows her own mind and puts her own needs on the back burner to help others out at times, so much so that even though she is insanely attracted to Bradly Hawk I absolutely adore a friends to lovers romance. She also knows her own mind and puts her own needs on the back burner to help others out at times, so much so that even though she is insanely attracted to Bradly Hawk, she remains only friends with him since he is her sister's ex-husband.
I have to say the chemistry between Ali and Hawk was pretty awesome from their very first encounter. Even their playful banter was so flirtatious. I seriously bought into them as a couple long before Ali created her fauxmance with Hawk. They had amazing passion and I especially loved that Hawk accepted Ali just as she was and didn't expect her to change at all.
I did worry how much pressure Ali put on herself to always be there for everyone else while putting many of her needs last. I think her family especially had come to expect her to take up the slack, and it was refreshing to finally see her sister Bridget offer to help, even if she stumbled a bit along the way. As I missed reading the first book in the series, I can say with certainty that Feels Like the First Time reads very well as a stand alone story. I will also say I have already bought the first book to go back and read, as I hate reading books in a series out of order.
I found Feels Like the First Time to be a sexy and emotional romance and a really super fast read, as I couldn't put the book down. Apr 25, Mona rated it it was amazing. Just loved this book. Adair has done it again. The second in the Destiny Series.. Here we have a friends to lovers story. They've known each other since they became family. Now it's a little weird to say the least when things turn around. Ali Marshall always takes care of everyone else. She finally does something for herself and gets noticed for her art work. When her sister comes back to Destiny it shocks not only her, but Hawk her ex-husband.
Ali finds herself telling a little white lie, a Just loved this book. Ali finds herself telling a little white lie, and involving him. The thing is he doesn't seem to mind it. But when they both get caught up in the lie something happens. Neither know what to do. Highly recommend this series. Apr 21, Isha Coleman rated it it was amazing Shelves: Feels Like The First Time makes for a feel good romance with a hint of taboo thrown in for good measure. What began as a matter of prideful insecurity turns into a mouthwatering love affair.
Ali and Hawk appeal to sentimental card carrying romantics everywhere. With each and every word, Ms. Adair touches the heart while resurrecting the dreamer in us all. Apr 17, Bookgasms Book Blog rated it liked it Shelves: I love a friends to lovers book, add in a small town and I can't wait to read it! On one hand, I loved the relationship that moved from friends to lovers between Ali and Hawk. But I greatly disliked, no, I hated how Ali's sister, Bridget, and Bridget and Hawk's marriage and divorce "hung around" through the entirety of the story. The constant reminder of Bridget and Hawk's past love and subsequent breakup overshadowed everything, and I just couldn't fully enjoy the story of Ali and Hawk and their growing love that moved past the bounds of friendship.
Apr 27, Victoria rated it really liked it. It's sweet and heartwarming. The story is well written with characters you will love. The chemistry between Ali and Hawk was sizzling hot. The story has plenty of drama and a fun read. I voluntarily reviewed an advance copy of this book. Oct 18, J. Haney rated it really liked it Shelves: I've not read many Hockey romances but I have to say Adair sure hit the goal with this one. The attraction is anything but fake between these two characters. This story is much the same as the others of its sort but it does have one thing on its side the others I've read have not.
It's a second chance romance. The question is can these two find their way in all the lies? May 20, Kait Nolan rated it it was amazing Shelves: Apr 23, Sascha rated it really liked it. For the most part, I loved this story except that there was a lot of family drama going on and I felt like at times it overshadowed the love story that should have been the focus. I understand that for Ali and Hawk to get to where they needed to be in their relationship, the drama was important to the story, I just wished there could have been less.
Regardless, this was a sweet romance that swept me away and tugged at my heart. I absolutely love Ms. Feels Like the First Time is a lovely story of second chance love that left me feeling lighthearted and happy. Even though this is the second book of the series, it could be read as a stand-alone, but I highly recommend reading the first book, Last Kiss of Summer , because it was also a great book and you are introduced to the characters that are mentioned in this story. Overall, Feels Like the First Time is a wonderful story filled with romance, friendship and a lesson in learning to forgive, set in a charming town with lovable characters.

Circumstance prevented them from realizing what they want and acting on these feelings is a whole different story. I was a little skittish about this book because of my reservations on how the hero and heroine know each other. Yes, this made me feel aw Hawk and Ali have had a specials feelings for each other long before they became romantic.
Yes, this made me feel awkward. As I read on, my adoration for the heroine and my swooning over the hero increases. Hawk is super sweet and I adore him, as well as the people in this small town. I love how he knew for some time how Hawk felt for Ali but pretty much minded his business.
Her looming past relationship with Halk bugged me to no ends and I hated that she made Ali feel insecure. But I suppose she was a good villain and created a good conflict to the story. Luke and Kennedy, the couple from the previous book got plenty of page time. I love that Marina always incorporates the secondary characters well into the main story. Overall, another great read from Marina Adair.

Feels Like the First Time
In this book we have Aliana Ali and Bradley Hawk. We met both in the first book Last Kiss of Summer. Despite the fact that Hawk caught Bridget doing another guy and she abandoned him at his lowest point for some reason he still loved her. I guess this is all supposed to demonstrate how deeply Hawk can love but to this guy it just makes him look like a major sap. Ali an artist who works in metals has been secretly in love with Hawk since high school where she was a grade behind him.
They were the best of friends until Hawk met Bridget who went to live with her mother after their parents divorced while Ali remained in Destiny Bay with her father Marty. Never certain Hawk is truly over her sister and not wanting to risk having her heart broken again or risking damaging their friendship Ali never makes an attempt to make it more.
Bridget surprisingly returns to town with her mother in tow to announce her engagement at what is supposed to be a family dinner party for Ali celebrating her art making the cover of a magazine. Ali and Hawk then decide its necessary for them to carry out their fake romance until Bridget leaves town. Yeah, as much as I like Ms. Adair and this book you have to really be willing to look past some implausible stuff to enjoy this one. Pretending to be dating of course leads to them having to hold hands and other things and that of course leads to them both revealing they want to be more than friends.
Sexy friends as Ali calls them. What I liked about this book.
See a Problem?
And she was human. As good a person as she was she struggled with the idea of having to share her father whom she was devoted to with her sister who had pretty much ignored him for most of her life. I enjoyed watching how her relationship with her sister changed. How she tried to help her sister break the cycle of looking for her happiness by latching on to successful men. There were plenty of touching moments between Ali and her father and even a big one between Ali and her mom. I even liked Hawk once he got his head out of his ass and realized Ali was the key to his happiness and put Bridget in his past where she belonged.
It was enjoyable that both Kennedy and Luke returned in secondary roles in this book although Kennedy sort of disappeared from the story fairly early on.
He was a sap for his 2 time ex wife but he was a great dad. Jul 25, OpenBookSociety. And no matter ho http: Probably not so much, because it's OUR story, and every single couple in the world has one.

Most couples think their story is gold, and sometimes, they're right.
Sometimes, it's so unique and inspirational, their story becomes just as memorably golden to everyone else, too. I was truly hoping that in this book, I'd find a heart-warming story that would strike gold with me, but I'm sorry to say I found mostly pyrite. Maybe it was just me, but I simply couldn't relate.
After all that time, even though he was married and had children, he was still mooning over the girl who'd lived next door to him as a kid. He was still stuck in the past, still listening to the music they listened to together as kids, and still wondering about her and aching for her every single day. He and his pals used to wear the full make-up and costumes to perform KISS-like "concerts" on-stage Methinks his life smacked more of Arrested Development. Yeah, their story has a happy ending. They end up together again, after all those years. As far as I know, they're still together now.
I'm happy for them, and hope their reality is even better than what he imagined for so many years. I'm sorry, but to me, the book reads like an immature teenager's diary. Not my cuppa tea. Dec 22, Antonia rated it liked it Shelves: I really enjoyed this book. It tells the story of a young couple who is torn apart because of some misunderstandings and "fate", by after many years of loving each other silently and torturing themselves, they randomly meet and find the strength to reunite and get married, as they should have done so many years ago.
Shawn Inmon's story is autobiographical. At least I think so. I really liked his writing style and the way he expressed his feelings and his thoughts. It was so good to see love thr I really enjoyed this book. It was so good to see love through a man's eyes, to see how much pain he hided inside him all these years and how life loved him after all, because he ultimately brought him to his one and only love.
I also adored the fact that so many titles of songs "danced" throughout the book and how music and poetry played a significant role in the way both of the protagonists expressed their emotions to each other. Overall, 3 out of 5 stars, because of the fact that it seemed to me that it ended a bit too suddenly. Well, I liked it so much that I didn't want it to end. I recommend it to everyone, but especially to people who enjoy reading romantic stories.
It's a perfect read for winter nights. So, yes, if you're up to a light and hopeful read, this book is for you. I'll definitely buy more books by Shawn Inmon because he is totally capable of creating a perfect romantic atmosphere and knows what true and pure feelings really mean. At one point, her parents demand that he never see her again -- and he doesn't, for thirty years. The book begins with him walking away from Dawn, as directed -- and then he tells the tale of their relationship and what happened when they accidentally found one another again. Each chapter head is a song title, which lends even more to the nostalgia the book takes place in the late s. I remembered each and every song and found that some memories of my own were triggered by the music.
As a result, Inmon not only put me directly into his world but allowed me to relate it to where I was at the time of the events.

Dawn and I were the same age at the time this book took place, and like her I had strict parents. I found myself chafed on her behalf as I remembered similar situations from my own life! I somehow missed that this book was a true love story until it was over. I loved and hate this book was written by a man. Loved it because it is so rare that you get to see the true heart of a man, his hopes, his fears, his weaknesses, his dreams, and the self-discovery of a boy becoming a man, a husband, a father all just laid out for the world to see.

This story is just amazing. It is written straight from the heart of the author who is writing about true life events and people and by the way he has written it, you can tell it's true. In this book, we read about just this kind of couple who fall in love and lose each other then find one another by total accident thirty years later. I highly recommend this story.
