He is super excited, until one of his camp members, Lewis, tells him about the ghost at Camp Hi-Dee-Ho. Gilbert is now a little nervous, especially when he goes outside in the dark one night. In the end, Gilbert faces his fears and comes out braver than ever. I love the illustrations in this book. I especially like the pages where the illustrator has made them look like nighttime.

The words are easy enough for them to understand if read aloud. I would use this book to talk to my students about over coming their fears. I would probably use it in third grade. I probably would not use it in any higher of grades. I think this book tells a cute story about Gilbert. Gilbert was able to over come his fear of the ghost at camp Hi-Dee-Ho. However, maybe, he should have shared his information of the ghost not scaring him to the others to help them as well. I would read this story as an independent read a loud to a child before bedtime as an enrichment purpose. I feel that it would be most appealing for second graders because the language was simple and easy to understand. As camp goes on Gilbert comes to find that Lewis is actually the one that is the scaredy-cat but makes fun of other campers to make himself feel better.
