A really cute fairytale book for most ages! Some of the creatures described in the book may be slightly frightening to younger kids, but otherwise this is a great book to read to your kids. Seth and Kendra's grandparents are very positive role models; they constantly try to keep the peace in their haven for a wide variety of magical beings. Seth does break the rules a few times, but he eventually apologizes and is forgiven for what he has done. Kid, 11 years old April 28, Not Meant to be literature, but a great fantasy series!
Fablehaven is a series of five books about well, fantasy. It just stars all the classic fantasy characters, faires, imps, golems, kobolds, demons, etc. It's the story of to kids who go to their grandparents farm, only to discover a magical wonderland called Fablehaven. Fablehaven is safe haven to all sorts of fantastical creatures, both good and bad. I loved this series as it is just the kind of materiel that you don't want to put down, as it includes epic descriptions of awesome power, great descriptions of mystical creatures, and epic battles of massive proportions.
It is not bloody or graphically described, but its in their, and there are many deaths, sometimes from liked characters. Kendra, the main character, is positive and always tries to do things for the greater good. Her brother, Seth however, lies and often disobeys, but he's doing it to save people.
Many major characters betray and do surprising things, but they turn out good in the end. Sex, swearing, and drinking: Not much that I recall. A few characters may drink, but it is hardly mentioned. Mild flirting between Kendra and another boy, and i don't remember any swearing. Kid, 12 years old May 14, I hope you and your children injoy it.
Kid, 10 years old May 17, A Book Perfect for Anyone!!! This book made me want to read for hours because it was so good. The only flaw about this book is that there is quite a few battles with monsters.
Teen, 13 years old Written by Dripping love August 18, Teen, 15 years old Written by Voracious Reader March 9, Cute, and Wonderful Idea! Some parts are kind of scary, a bit. Kid, 10 years old August 26, This is by far the best book I've ever read. In my opinion, it's better than the Harry Potter series. I love the discription of the people, their surroundings, etc. To me, this book feels like you're getting pulled into a whole new world filled with so many amazing things. I also like the characters quite a bit. This book is so fun!
I haven't been able to put it down. Even my mom wants to read it!
Fablehaven Brandon Mull The entire Fablehaven series is a thrilling, action packed adventure. It is a story that will always keep you on your toes wondering what is going to happen next. Following Kendra and Seth on their mission to stop the Sphinx opening the demon prison, Zzyzx,. Teen, 15 years old Written by Idrys June 28, Great Story Despite Setbacks Although Seth does repeatably disobey his grandparents, and Kendra is shown as the "perfect child," I believe that those are simply exterior views.
Seth doesn't really want to break the rules, he simply wants to prove his worth and capability, but won't let anything get in the way of it. Kendra on the other hand, may appear to be perfect, but is simply afraid to take risks on even the smallest things, showing her unwillingness to try new things and to experiment and create. My only problem with this novel was that the book started off with two main characters, but ended with only one. Seth started out sharing the spotlight with his sister, but ended up on the sidelines.
Having Kendra save the day was nice, proving that taking certain risks is necessary, but too many and you'll cause problems. However, Seth never had to clean up the damage from his mistakes, his grandparents and Kendra were always there to do it for him. Overall, the story line was amazing while in the moment, but lost some of its gleam in reflection.
Still, I feel that everyone should at least give this novel a chance. Teen, 13 years old Written by Lynnoxxei April 16, I say not so. The review said that the kids repeatedly disobey the adults. That is only the "bad" kid - Seth.
Parents say
Kendra is pretty obedient and sensible, and actually really clever. The disobeyed commands actually end up really shaping the whole story - essentially releasing the magical creatures into the safe house and turning someone into a chicken, and freeing an evil hag equipped with magic. I would be scared to disobey the commands of my grandparents if I had any if they really owned a magical preserve, and arguably, I am more careful about following orders now that I've seen the disastrous consequences that can happen.
Overall, read the whole thing. You will never be addicted to a series like this one. It has a great and super-creative concept, awesome plotline, no boring parts, and a modern spin on classic creatures that is heaven for a dragon-obsessed person like me. Check out all his other books, and you won't be let down. Kid, 10 years old July 22, Book one was okay, and didn't have mistakes too bad, but then it started going downhill.
First, let me say that there were lots of mistakes. None of us was impressed. Renounced author Dav- Opps, Brandon Mill sucks at grammar. Oh, and take this: Kendra briskly scraped the match along the matchbox Some of the scenes are really dirty too. Like the grandmother and her grandkids massaging Nero.

Do I need to say more? She traipsed onto the island. You guys would get mad at me otherwise. This is a horribly written, boring, predictable, awful book. The only thing that keeps me going is trying to predict the next mistake.
