After the Fall, Before the Fall, During the Fall

The author does her usual solid job of tying the two events together, but I was left dissatisfied and uneasy at the end. One person found this helpful. I eagerly read this expecting the Kress from the Beggars series, I was sadly mistaken. This is a rushed and myopic 'mystery' combined with Dr.
Who inspired Dalek enemies. The ending was a draft and I feel short-changed There are better examples of Kress' writing. The characters in this book drew me in and really made the world "breathe".

Plenty of surprises too, even for a jaded reader like myself. The author made excellent use of teenagers in the story, managing to expose human problems that will never go away, but show how circumstances can change them. Well worth a read. Kress always has a good setup for a story, but never goes very deep.
If You Fall or Witness a Fall, Do You Know What to Do?
If you like a nice light story, I would recommend it. The ending felt a bit too magical for the hard SF Kress usually provides. But I enjoyed it well enough. See all 80 reviews. Sit down and rest for a while before carrying on with your daily activities. If possible, crawl to a telephone and dial to ask for an ambulance. Try to reach something warm, such as a blanket or dressing gown, to put over you, particularly your legs and feet. Stay as comfortable as possible and try to change your position at least once every half an hour or so. If you're living with or caring for an elderly person, see what to do after an incident for more information and advice. Every autumn we revel in the beauty of the fall colors.
The mixture of red, purple, orange and yellow is the result of chemical processes that take place in the tree as the seasons change from summer to winter. During the spring and summer the leaves have served as factories where most of the foods necessary for the tree's growth are manufactured. This food-making process takes place in the leaf in numerous cells containing chlorophyll, which gives the leaf its green color.
This extraordinary chemical absorbs from sunlight the energy that is used in transforming carbon dioxide and water to carbohydrates, such as sugars and starch. Along with the green pigment are yellow to orange pigments, carotenes and xanthophyll pigments which, for example, give the orange color to a carrot. Most of the year these colors are masked by great amounts of green coloring. But in the fall, because of changes in the length of daylight and changes in temperature, the leaves stop their food-making process. The chlorophyll breaks down, the green color disappears, and the yellow to orange colors become visible and give the leaves part of their fall splendor.
At the same time other chemical changes may occur, which form additional colors through the development of red anthocyanin pigments.
