This book was about a man and a pig and a car. The pig wanted to drive the car and it wanted to have toast. It drived the car and it had toast and they said not to drive the car. I liked that it got toast when it was in trouble and toast was the pig's treat. I didn't like that the people next door hated them. This book was funny because it have a treat when it was bad. This was a cute enough story, and I love the Lincoln sisters, but I wasn't thrilled about my son's newly piqued interest in which pedal is the gas and which is the brake. View all 3 comments.

I think that these books have to be read by the students themselves, but parents could read these stories to their children.

I do know if I would use this book for the classroom, but it would keep the readers attention but the mischief that Mercy encounters. The cover of the series depicts what the book will be about and gives students a accurately picture of what they will be encountering throughout the story. Also I think this fun cover would definitely attract readers to pick up the book and read it! I like how the cover is bright and colorful which also helps attract the students to the book. The illustrations throughout are lively and colorful.

I think that they add to the story line and allow the reader to enhance the story with the detailed pictures.

Also i believe that these illustrations help to break up the pages for the students making it easier and more fun to read. Watson unable to reach the brake, it takes some heroics from Baby to save the day. Back at the house, the ever-serene Mrs. Watson manages to mollify everyone-including Baby's crotchety sister and the angry policeman-with a stack of hot buttered toast. Written with simple vocabulary and lots of repetition, the quick-paced narrative flows gracefully and is packed with amusing moments. The glossy, full-color gouache paintings provide visual clues to support the text and add greatly to the humor.

The characters' facial expressions are laugh-out-loud funny, and the idealized s setting strikes just the right tone of innocence. A fresh, fun-filled must-have for those looking to spiff up beginning-chapter-book collections. Oct 01, Joseph Leskey rated it it was amazing Recommends it for: Simply too good for this world, to stretch things into the realm of the untrue.

Oh, look at that, it started to rain. All the characters are superb. And there being a pig in the series in fact the series being about a pig is astoundingly ingenious. I'll right off say that Kate DiCamillo is a natural at writing pigs. This is an expertly written pig. The humans are brilliantly fashioned as well. Oh, its raining hard. I think I heard some thunder. Well, wouldn't you know it? Each individual has a distinctive hilarious quality or a quality that can be used to be distinctly hilarious. Really, the whole thing just makes a person laugh.

But if you take away the comical aspect of the thing, is it destroyed? Well, it wouldn't exactly exist, but my point is, it is extraordinarily good writing. The very highest class of literature all in an "infinitely" amusing package. The plots are relatively simple, but it is of no consequence for they work perfectly with this type of story. So, if you want to experience the pinnacle of hilarity and all the virtues thereof and thereabout, I recommend that you read this, or far better, listen to this with the audiobooks that are read by Ron McLarty.

He has reading Mercy Watson down to a fine art.
