Early Intervention: Fun with Cristal (Toris Adventures Book 2)
I love the massive reunion of characters. Their antics keep the story moving along at a rapid pace. Hold on to that.
It may save your life. I absolutely loved Brannie and Aiden. Intelligent, witty, and loyal, these two are born warrior protectors. Do you want me to? But what a dirty…and naughty? If you enjoy outrageous characters, comical narrative and hilarious unpredictable scenarios, then look no further than G. Once a Charmer Charmed in Texas, 3. Intelligent, forthright, and always in control, Allie is shocked when she learns her father used the diner as collateral on a loan and now the loan shark has come to collect. I own fifty-one percent… Oh my God What did you do, Dad? While Allie is trying to deal with the fact her livelihood may be taken away from her, she soon discovers through the grapevine aka the town pharmacist that her daughter may have a boyfriend and may be thinking about sex while the one person she wants to discuss all this with is avoiding her because of a spontaneous kiss.
He has always loved Allie but that love becomes sexually fueled after a shared kiss. However, she and Angel are the only family he has and they mean the world to him. Written in the first person, Lovelace tells her story through the eyes of Allie Greene-mother, father, daughter, caretaker, and business owner. I especially enjoyed her relationship with her daughter. Firm but fair, Allie tries to be the perfect parent only to discover nothing about life or teenagers is perfect.
There is a strong sense of isolation surrounding Allie even though she has a strong support system around her. She is reluctant to accept help from anyone because she learned early in life that no one ever stays. Her mother died and left her alone with a father who gambled away their savings and home. Her ex-boyfriend left her when he found out she was pregnant. The town turned their back on her when she needed them most. Even now she feels abandoned by her father because of his dementia. When push comes to shove, however, she lowers her guard and accepts the helping hands that have always been there.
Lovelace has an engaging and humorous voice for writing about everyday people. Her dry wit infiltrates the storyline as does her understanding of human nature. Sizzling chemistry and emotionally ripe scenes help to put the romance in motion and convince the reader this couple has a chance. The subplots take up quite a bit of the storyline, causing a rush to wrap everything up at the end. There was that faint touch of paranormal that has been interwoven into the series that, in my opinion, was just a lazy out for Lovelace to take.
Once again Lovelace delivers readers a well rounded small town romance that will keep you laughing and swooning with pleasure. Lost Without You The Debt, 1. Fans who did read it will remember that Tommy did everything he could to keep his friends safe at the St. When Clarissa is the one to contact and tell him the time has come to pay his debt, he is wary but relieved the wait is finally over. He is told he has 24 hours to secure a package and deliver to a specific address or suffer the consequences. When he arrives at the specified pick up, he is shocked to discover the package is his first and only love-Beth.
After all these years…Beth. Beth aka Jada is a pop star whose meteoric rise to fame has left her lost and broken. The events of the past are never far from her thoughts and often fuel her bad decisions. Though we never learned exactly what landed her in St. I was just trying to get under his skin. The focus is on two people whose lives are still somewhat controlled by their shared past. Drug abuse, sexual promiscuity, self-harm… nothing is sacred. Tommy and Beth are both chock full of guilt and for things that were out of their control.
Tommy feels responsible for what he believes happened to Beth and for the debt they all incurred. Beth struggles with the guilt of her success, the abuse in the foster home, and the fact she was never able to find Tommy after that night. I looked for his family. An intense and enlightening sexual reconnection blows the door of their suppressed feelings and lances old wounds, creating a catharsis that offers this couple hope that they may yet finally beat the odds stacked against them.
A tense and informative climatic finale leaves readers in limbo with a rather traumatic cliffhanger and a slew of questions. Why did Rosa go to jail? Who exactly is Clarissa and what is her connection to Bates? But never fear mes amies, we only have to wait one week for the release of book three-Where I Belong.
I have been a fan of Lynn Kurland for years. I picked her A Dance In Time on a whim and was instantly hooked. To this day it remains one of my favorite time travel romances and I often reread it. She is perfect for those who enjoy adventurous romances with hints of mystery and suspense. Another bonus feature of the stories is the air of innocence in them.
Ever My Love opens in the past to give us a hint of the adventure we are about to embark on. We then flash forward to the present to lay the foundation and from there proceed to travel back and forth between the 21st and the 14th century for the rest of the story.
This particular story deals with two modern-day characters who are new to the series-Emma Barton and Nathaniel MacLeod. Kurland uses this couple to explain some peculiarities in the MacLeod family tree and to also close a couple of open-ended storylines from previous books.
Ever My Love is more definitely more energetic than the last few books though the sense of anticipation and wonderment that first drew me to this series remains missing. The same smooth pacing and steady hand is apparent but there was a time when Kurland took more chances.
She made her couples work for their happily ever after and they suffered their fair share of bumps and bruises along the way. Nathaniel Nat and Emmaline Emma are well developed characters and fun to follow behind on their journeys. Both are intelligent, witty, likable, unfailing optimists whose ability to handle the unknown is admirable.
A number he soon learns has a very interesting history. Both of them have secrets that they are protective and cautious about revealing. I found it amusing but slow going as they each circle around the same subject, trying to determine what the other knows and how to broach it. The middle section of this book drags at times with its chatty narrative and repetitive thoughts and deeds. The romance is slow burning with a soft but tangible chemistry. Emma has her own problems with her family and an irritating ex-boyfriend. I will admit the whole ex-boyfriend plotline reminded me of A Garden in the Rain.
Emma does eventually surprise him with her own ninja skills though only after she has a realistic and well-earned meltdown. Jamie, Patrick, Ian, Maddie MacLeod and various other relatives all come out of the woodwork to offer advice, a helping hand, some weaponry training, and a clue or few.
They add to the overall personality and humor of the story. As any fan of this series knows, Jamie is a terrible busybody and his brother Patrick proves to be no better. The main conflict is pretty standard fare for this series as Nat and Emma hop through time, following and rescuing one another while trying to figure out what their connection to one another is and the reasons for the time loop.
The ending is enjoyable with a bit of action and suspense as the story comes full circle and all our questions are answered. Ever My Love is an entertaining read that shows a spark of the ambition this series has been missing, giving readers a humorous and lightweight romance with plenty of supernatural adventure. And try to look less serial kille Originally posted at SmexyBooks- http: And try to look less serial killer and more solid citizen. When he meets Ivy Stephens, a young lady who is interested in adopting one of the strays he helps to rehome, Sam falls hard and fast.
But Sam has some serious baggage in his life. As Sam and Ivy grow closer, Sam is worried Ivy may be too nice to fit into his life. This series spins off her McCauley brothers series with its focus lasered on the Webster Garage and the four gorgeous, sexy, commitment-phobic mechanics who work there. Each book can be read as a standalone though previous romance storylines carry over.
Harte introduces Ivy Stephens to Sam Hamilton with a bit of a meet cute. Ivy is out searching for a stray puppy Cookie she has been taking care of on and off. Sam is also out looking for Cookie. They run into one another and Sam agrees to keep Cookie at his home until Ivy can talk to her landlord about having a pet. A friend of mine was asking about this little guy just the other week.
Talk about plans for Cookie. This installment felt softer and less conflicted than the first two.
The same engaging narrative, sexually enhanced romance and endearingly characters are present but Harte chooses to leave the dramatics by the curb and gently walk this couple to their HEA. Sam is the best friend and roommate of Foley Sangers the hero of Road Assistance. Single, gorgeous, and ripped, Sam is honest to a fault and a total gentleman despite what his size and mannerisms suggest.
Ivy is a massage therapist who stays to herself. Intelligent, good looking, and a genuinely nice person, Ivy is also a bit of a loner as her family has all but abandoned her for reasons unknown and her last serious boyfriend used her to get through school then dumped her. She is content with herself and her life.

Opposite attraction romances are the best and Harte does this one with justice. Fantastic dialogue, dry humorous wit, and a layered storyline allows readers to see beneath the surface and experience first hand the emotional issues they are dealing with. Ivy has pretty much laid her demons to rest but Sam is still struggling with his childhood, his time in prison, and general feelings of unworthiness.
Ivy sees Sam and accepts him as he is because she understands the root of his pain. She is someone he has unknowingly been searching for. I love the humor she uses to help defuse his guilt and shame. Did you wear black and white striped uniforms? Have a ball chained to your ankle? Break up rocks with an Acme pickaxe? Ivy is the one who not only sets the parameters of their relationship but also initiates the initial sexual aspect. She instinctively understands that Sam has some confusion between intimacy and sex and gives him all the power as she sets out to seduce him. Just keep petting me, baby.
Then, because she figured the poor man had suffered enough, and her underwear would never be salvaged if she kept stringing this out, she unsnapped his jeans. He started, his eyes remaining closed. Of course, no Harte book would be complete without the antics of the rambunctious Webster mechanics and various other characters from this series. Harte introduces a few new characters whose personalities fit right in with this bunch and I hope we see more of them in the future.
Zero to Sixty is a lightweight romance contemporary brimming laughter, love, and family. Perfect escapism for the romance lover in all of us. The Unyielding Call of Crows, 3. Is this my life now Originally posted at SmexyBooks- http: Is this my life now? And it all rests on the back of a single Crow. The most annoying, irritating, pain the arse woman to ever be brought back to life to walk the earth as a Crow. Helping her is the most unlikely of people-Stieg Engstrom. Steig is a Viking and part of the Raven clan.
So you need to talk to me. That is the beauty of being me. Shelly Laurenston is once again leading her readers happily back into the fray of gods, goddesses, warriors, and the occasional pet with the latest installment in her Call of Crows series. Jam-packed with humor, sex, action, snark, outrageous characters, and sheer insanity, Laurenston has created another paranormal world that just screams F. Set in present day L.
Almost every mythology and religion is represented in here, each with its own group of obnoxious, arrogant, loud, petty, narcissistic, men and women who like to bash, stab, beat, and smash their way to victory against their enemies. And none of them get along. Especially with the Crows. The Crows dislike just about everyone and with good reason. She is a delightful combination of every strong, loyal, intelligent, rude, and annoying female Laurenston has ever written. She was killed by an ex and offered a second life by Skuld.
Her general unapologetic attitude towards everyone keeps you in stitches. There is a delightful sense of truthfulness and honor in her as she plows through the world, leaving chaos and mayhem in her wake. And the beauty of it is…she knows how annoying she is. Yet for all her issues, you will never have to fear anything when she has your back. She will fight to the death beside you and die to protect you.
And she has a very special gift that can do just that. You did just disfigure a man. All the while they are both trying to avoid their fellow clan members who attempt to interfere with unwanted advice and their normal general craziness. Watching Steig and Erin try to understand each other is like piecing together a piece puzzle while blindfolded.
I love the strong inclusion of multiple personalities who merge seamlessly into the storyline with fantastic results. All the clans are featured heavily in here and are as unpredictable as usual. The snippets of violence between the various clans and each other only add to the overall appeal. They are predestined to mess with each other and it only continues to get worse the more they interact. That alone keeps this series delightfully fresh in a sub-genre that tends to take itself a little too seriously at times.
The ending is an explosive finale that shows us Laurenston always has a few tricks up her sleeve. The main conflict is resolved while advancing the arc in a way that guarantees no one will want to miss book four. Some loose ends are tied up, new characters are introduced, and we are given a few clues to who may be the next heroine and hero of the series.
The shifter storyline is an interesting development and I look forward to seeing where that goes. Word of warning, the series is ongoing arc wise and not meant to read out-of-order. Prude Labeled Book 1. She was just Rebecca Washington, straight-A student, and prude extraordinaire.
All of this becomes painfully obvious when her boyfriend of six months breaks up with her in public for being boring. To add insult to injury, Rebecca learns that Derek is now her partner for an Eng Lit project that will require her to do the worst possible thing in the world-speak in public. Each encounter causes Rebecca loosen up and let go of some of her need for control as her initial assessment of Derek being a carefree jerk slowly changes. Forced to acknowledge her growing feelings for Derek, Rebecca wonders if this is the real thing or is she setting herself up for another humiliation.
Crisp writing, indulgent humor, and an easy flowing storyline makes it incredibly easy to become fully invested in this book. Heavily character driven, Gray uses the narrative to drive this opposite attraction romance with a heavy inclusion of antagonism, miscommunication, and sexual tension to draw out the protagonists and maneuver them in the right direction.
Readers will find Rebecca reluctantly charming in her eccentric-ness and shyness. Her internal monologues and off the cuff information dumps leave you laughing as she dissects everything from her encounters with other people to the contents of her lunch. Thanks for the vote of faith, Prude.
Living in a fraternity, he is outgoing, popular, good looking, and seemingly nonchalant about school and life in general. His carefree attitude and incessant teasing of Rebecca comes off mocking at first, until you begin to see Rebecca slowly gaining her self-esteem and confidence with each new encounter. I personally would have enjoyed getting a dual narrative to better characterize Derek.
Bloodspell
So many changes and challenges are tossed at you and the coping mechanisms range from drinking and partying to hiding out in the library and wondering if you can just live there all four years. Gray touches on everything just enough to tease your memories out without forcing you to relive every single moment. As Rebecca struggles to figure out her relationship with Derek and in retrospect, herself, an engaging cast of secondary characters chime in, adding plenty of laughter and energy with their offers of advice, shoulders to cry on, and promises of smackdowns. I loved the dynamics of their relationship and unconditional love.
You just have to look for it. The ending comes at you fast and seemed to wrap up everything a little too neatly though watching Rebecca grow to not only accept herself as she is but also gain her independence and voice made this story worth any issues I had. Prude is a light-hearted new adult romance that addresses some weighty subjects without dragging the book down into an emotional quagmire.
Gray definitely has a pleasant voice that speaks for the shy nerd in all of us and I am looking forward to seeing what she has instore for us in book two. Tru Blue The Whiskeys, 1. Originally posted at Smexybooks- http: When he is released from prison, he comes home to find his mother dead from a drug overdose, his younger brother in no better condition, and two siblings he had no idea even existed. Truman takes his two younger siblings and admonishes his brother to get help.
Now a single parent, he is at a loss on how to raise a baby and toddler, until a young woman steps into help. Gemma Wright is pure class from the top of her shiny salon done hair to her perfectly pedicured toes. Stepping in to help Truman one night at a local store, Gemma finds herself drawn to this seemingly hard man whose gentleness with his siblings makes her heart swoon.
This sweet, sexy, humorous bittersweet story centers on a man whose whole life has been spent trying to protect his family to the point of almost destroying him. A smooth steady pace starts us off directly in the present while interjecting with memories from the past to allow readers to understand just what Truman has gone through with his highly dysfunctional family. Truman is introduced as the stereotypical bad boy with a heart of gold. Once you get to know him, you realize that this bad boy is only bad in his looks and attitude.
His hard, tattooed, stoic persona is in direct contrast with the sensitive artist and firm family man who resides within him. His abusive childhood could have led him down a different path but his innate goodness helps to keep him on the up and up even after his stint in prison. Truman is the ultimate underdog who you will instantly want to champion and protect from the cruel, judgmental world. Too broken to want to embrace life. A poor little rich girl whose parents spent more time with their social engagements than her.
A lifetime of nannies and being cast aside leaves Gemma with a deep emotional void in her heart. The main conflict balances well with the opposites attract romance. It sang of dark desires and dark pleasures, infusing Tori with its evil nature. Not wanting to be like her ancestor, she struggled to control the blood, to prove that she was the master. I found Tori very human despite her gifts. She had that careful, sincere and concerned spark inside her that never vanished even as she embraced her powers.
She sided with caution and refused to give in to her blood. Aside from it being forbidden, both of them were experiencing the strain between them as they both struggled to control their inner demons. Their moments together were so sweet that they made me smile. But at other times, I was gripping the book, emotionally aching from their problems.
Tori knew that her blood wanted to kill — even Christian — and took precautions too. The action in Bloodspell was written well. It was as savage, inhuman and magical as the characters. I loved how the scenes reflected the true nature of vampires and witches. The aftermath of the fight scenes were also shown. Tori often felt disgust and fear as she remembered her joy at killing and winning. She was still vulnerable inside even though she was strong. The drawbacks of being a witch was as great as her power.
Bloodspell is a captivating tale of forbidden love bloodlust and danger. Deliciously dark, fast paced and beautifully written, this novel will get the attention of paranormal romance readers. I highly recommend this! This reminded me of Vampire Diaries the TV series when it comes to suspense, action and unpredictability. Tori dosen't know how to take his Jekyll and Hyde complex towards her but what she dosen't know is that it is against the law for vampire's and witches to be together and he constantly fights against himself for a taste of her blood and his need and the laws to be with her. What I loved the most about Bloodspell has to be that the main character Victoria Tori for short isn't just the some helpless girl with no friends who falls for the vamp boy.
She is a kick ass witch even if she doesn't know it straight away. I loved all the other character's such as Angie, aunt Holly,Charla,Lucian and Gabe even with him being sooooooo evil. I also really loved that it was told from Tori and Christian POV with was a nice surpise as I thought the book was just going to be Tori's voice. Bloodspell is the story of blood, vamps, witches, war and a book that will sweep you away into a brand new world of paranormal romance you won't want to miss.

When they finally confide in one another their feelings they work to stop the enemies who are intent on taking her and Christian is put in a position that will betray everything he is. I liked this one quite a bit but it was a bit angsty in parts. I thought this was well written and liked how the story unfolded. It's not your typical YA. Girls loves boy and boy loves her back. No that's not how this book works. It's more defined more emotional. It's not your Cinderella story that's for sure. But it won't leave you hanging in the love part either. Like moths to a flame. As written in the book That's exactly how Victoria and Christian are with each other in this paranormal YA.
Their relationship at first were hot and cold. But Victoria in no way can resist Christian whe This book was so good. But Victoria in no way can resist Christian when he wasn't acting like a jerk. She was hooked onto him and they were hot together. When Christian wasn't being a jerk and he lowered his guards, you can actually see how much he really cares for Tori Victoria. And I actually felt it. There was a scene where Christian had to go away to take care of some business and he calls Victoria, just to urge her to be careful.
He insists that she stays in company of her friends and not to go anywhere alone. Because he feared for her safety. He showed such a soft side to him with her that no one got to see but her. Here's a small scene Christian swallowed, his eyes tormented. He could never let her go. It's always been you. I don't know what will.
If my man told me that I'd be melting on the floor. Though he is romantic, so I shouldn't say that. But that's for a different blog post. Victoria, being the witch that she is has to be careful. Because, they are people out there looking to take what she has. And what she has it's a blessing and a curse at the same time. Those that want it, don't know what they asking for, because those that have it, wish they didn't. So believe me when I tell you there's lots of action in this book. There's lots of magic and spells going around in this book. It has a bit of everything. And if I can't convince you enough to go check this book out!
Check out what Seventeen Magazine has to say about it. Here's a small portion on what they wrote: You'll love it if There is just the right amount of romance here, but it doesn't overpower the plot. The fight scenes are terrific, and much more satisfying than listening to people whine about wanting to be together forever! Need I say I loved this book?
It was definitely a different read. It gets boring to read that the girls and guy gets together at the end with no consequences. But in this one, so much is at stake and they sacrifice so much just to be together. And that's what makes it different! It's actually refreshing to read a book that you can't actually predict. So let's not just make this a summer read like Seventeen magazine says. Let's also make it a cold season read too.
It's good enough to curl up under your quilt and get lost in the world that Amalie created! Jun 08, Jessica rated it it was amazing. I am in love my friends. Not just with hot, hunky Christian, not just with Victoria's beautifully broken story, not even just with the amazing writing in this book, but honestly with the whole package. It has been a long time since a paranormal book has really taken my breath away. So long in fact, that I thought I was done with the concept of vampires, witches and the like. Bloodspell has officially changed my mind, and I'm smitten.
Let me start with the characters. For those of you out there wh I am in love my friends. For those of you out there who simply must fall in love with your characters in order to enjoy a book, welcome to your Eden. Victoria and Christian are gorgeously written, and perfectly flawed.
See, there is no set line drawn between the "good" and "bad" sides of what the two of them are. Amalie Howard shows the inner battle of emotions that goes on in each of them. The all-consuming need to give in to their baser instincts. They let the darkness within them take over at times. It's this flawed existence that makes them so amazing and so believable.
What I loved most of all was how Bloodspell takes everything that you know about witches and vampires, and blends it perfectly with brand new content. Lovers of both of these paranormal creatures will appreciate how Howard sticks to what we already know, and just adds in more fantastic back story for you to fall in love with. The blood that burns in Victoria's veins is well, rather vicious! Her powers have the potential to be dark and terrifying, or of course to be used for good. Add in the fact that her and Christian are not even supposed to be friends, much less more, and you have a recipe for a book that will keep you reading no matter what else you are supposed to be doing.
Don't start this book if you need to be somewhere, or eat, or really anything else. The action and fight scenes in this story are descriptive, and I liked how the violence that occurs with these two sets of paranormal creatures wasn't masked over. Scenes happen where people die and their blood spills upon the Earth. It's not overly gory, but it's there. To me it was an essential part of the story to show that, no matter how composed they look on the outside, Victoria and Christian are constantly fighting that inner demon that is wanting to get out.
A delicious combination of older mythology, new powers, forbidden romance, and so much more, Bloodspell is a book that I cannot wait to read again. Luckily this is the first in a series. I cannot wait to see more from Amalie Howard and her vivid characters. Seriously, this has the highest seal of approval that little old me can give a book. Go grab a copy and dive in. Don't expect fun magic tricks and sunshine because you most definitely won't get it. Bloodspell is deliciously dark, without being overly so. Sweet, humorous and relaxing moments are also thrown in so there are nice contrasts in mood and pace. The romance between Victoria and [French] Christian is unsurprisingly steamy………how about some telepathic kissing? Many thirst for her immense power and the only way they can have it? By convincing her to relinquish it to them or by killing her. Victoria doesn't like the sound of either of those. This novel is fast paced and scattered with dynamic action sequences.
Amalie Howard finds the perfect balance between the calm and exciting moments, effectively building the tension and our interest.
This is a full novel. Book 1 of 3 in The Shadows of Regia Trilogy.
When you least expect it, there are big twists that will get your heart pumping and mind whirring. Bloodspell was thoroughly enjoyable and I recommend it to those who aren't afraid of a little nitty gritty. Although the romance between Victoria and Christian is shaky at times, it eventually solidifies and becomes a force to be reckoned with!

Bloodspell is a likable YA paranormal novel with has witches, vampires and warlocks, however it did seem at times that it was trying too hard to be like Twilight as there are quite a few similarities between them. The characters are all well rounded especially Victoria as she comes as a normal and friendly girl. However it was very annoying how Victoria and Christian would back and forth between wanting to be together and thinking they cannot as it would be too dangerous, this happens awful lot in this book. While Bloodspell was very predictable, it is an enjoyable book which I would recommend to people who like Twilight and Evermore.
HOW freaking awesome is this cover? The tension building in this book is awesome! Tori and Christian are so sweet together, but wicked sexy at the same time and they are completely forbidden to be together by a centuries old law. Obviously, a major win Bloodspell is loaded with compelling characters, not just Tori and Christian either! Witches, Vampires, war, love and a blood curse all wrapped into one amazingly told story. Seriously a must read of ! I only had one complaint- I found it easy to put down. You know what I mean? Like I wasn't dying to get back to it at every available moment I had.
You know what I mean. In any event, Bloodspell was awesome and I totally can't wait for the next one! I had been meaning to read a Shiloh Walker novel for some time, based on the solid recommendations of many fellow paranormal-romance lovers who highly recommend her work. This series is currently eleven books deep, and have recently been re-released to include two-stories-for-one. Sadly, I found these books to be quick, throw-away reads with little substance but lots of smuttiness.
But it's too late for Tori when she learns the truth - vampires are real, supernaturals stalk the night and she has just been bitten. She turns to the person she trusts most in the world - a local cop called Declan who she has been lusting after from their first meeting. Declan can smell the change coming on Tori, because he is a werewolf. He can also smell that she is his mate, his to protect and save from the crazed vampire who is hell-bent on making her his master. Luckily, Declan is a werewolf and can offer a helping-hand with Tori's transition.
Reader's are instantly on the back foot because Delcan and Tori have known and worked with each other for months already. Her as a PI, and he has her police informant. They have been fighting a burning attraction since their first meeting, or so we're told. It's hard to play catch-up with this couple and really feel the attraction that Walker tells us is scorching between them. I have no problems with a good bit of erotica. And paranormal-erotica is a particular favourite of mine. It felt like Walker did a slight cheat by putting all of Declan and Tori's attraction down to months of pent-up sexual frustration and yearning.
Elijah Crawford feels an instant attraction to Tori. It all felt rushed, and slightly dirtily-lascivious in the wake of Declan and Tori's bond effectively a marriage. And I again felt like Walker copped-out by putting it down to yet another instant attraction between Eli and Tori. Having said that, I was very intrigued by Eli. For years now he has watched his best friend reap the benefits of love with the women Eli also harbours an intense lust for. But what Declan and Tori have is not meant for Eli. And when a witch, hell-bent on misguided vengeance, sets out to kill him he almost welcomes the release of death-oblivion.
What he doesn't count on is an intense attraction to the witchy hellion, and what he is willing to do to keep her, forever. I quite liked the character set-up for Eli in book 1. He's that lovely sort of tortured hero - ancient and lonely and on the brink of ending his mortality. This series started to perk-up for me when Eli meets his mate in the most unusual of circumstances - with her hell-bent on murdering him. But then Walker lost me again by skipping the novel ahead five years and conveniently saying that both Eli and Sarel had been pining for one another throughout those five years.
Half a decade worth of wanting and lust and Walker just breezed over it and once again went straight to the sex. That was a novel of sweet yearning and complex characters, and I thought that Walker's first forays into paranormal romance would follow along similarly heatedly-multifaceted plot lines. Admittedly, the first five novels of the series were published by Ellora's Cave notoriously smutty , while the last three books with slightly naffier front-covers are Berkley Sensation publications. It does look as though the series was improved over time.
Admittedly, Walker knows what she's doing when it comes to writing bedroom sport. Those scenes were gratuitously sexy and if you want a bit of easy, sexy reading then I highly recommend - but when there's no characterization or plot to back it up, the books deteriorate into cheap erotic thrills.
