Sure some of the jumps before the subjects, and the main text can be sharp, but it all makes for a rather interesting read that will drag you in. The coming of age tale that forms the basis for the book, has more to offer than a lot in the genre, as Sion, deals with the death of his Grandfather at age 14, who then reveals a mystery about his birth, while diving Sion headlong into the ancient world via the papers he leaves behind. From that point on, we follow Sion as he travels through school, and a somewhat unusual personal life, that becomes entwined with the tales of the ancient world he is learning about. Along the way we meet numerous people who go on to influence Sion's life and either help, or hinder the development of his thoughts.

Some people may disagree with some of the conclusions Sion reaches, but none could say they aren't well argued, and appeared to be founded on facts, even if those are often very little known facts, that have been glossed over for political, religious, or other reasons.
