A Perfect Husband
So many little details that fleshed out the story. Outstanding look at the converging circumstances that led to Kathleen Peterson's death.
Women were mere tools in his sociopathy. How could anyone believe in him? Well done treatment of this case. I agree with the reviewer who said this book has not aged well. It is apparent that the author had much more access to the prosecution's strategy and evidence than that of the defense. Only the family members supporting the prosecution agreed to contribute to The book. Further, the author uses biased language to paint a picture of a hardworking genteel competent prosecution team charged with bringing a poisonous, evil narcissistic libertine to justice. Never once does the author try to investigate the allegations of incompetence by Deaver or the poor forensic work by the State.
In this way, retrospectively, the eventual revelations about Deaver and Frieda Black highlight the authors bias. The book is an interesting counterpoint to the Staircase doc where perhaps too much credence was given to the Defendant's side of the story. I have my own opinion of what happened, and this book did not reveal much new info. One person found this helpful.
Jones did a very good job of bringing out so many of the facts in the murder of Kathleen Peterson. Kathleen wanted to be needed at the time she became close to Peterson.

Little did she know how used she would become by this dangerous, deranged man. It was odd to me that he attempted to influence the police as to what happened in both staircase murders, and at the same time making it clear he was not there. Regarding his lifestyle, why didn't Caitlin question immediately as to why this could be important in the case, and why didn't they explain the extent of it? She thought it was a new fact and assumed it was something from the past. Answered a lot of questions I had after viewing The Staircase documentary. Well-written and researched, gives a more objective view of a fascinating case.
After seeing the documentary, I thought Peterson got a bad deal, even though I always thought that there was way too much blood to have come from a fall. I now think that Peterson is a narcissistic psychopath who is responsible for the deaths of two lovely women. I feel most badly for all the children, especially the Ratliff girls. Even though I watched the original trial of Peterson on Court TV, my first such experience, this interesting read filled more detail and is compellingly told.
It is a cautionary tale for smart women who may overlook character flaws in potential mates. I really enjoyed this book.
Shah Rukh Khan proves why he is the perfect husband yet again
The book ends very strongly, and overall, it's one that I would definitely recommend to others. Aphrodite has made me a fan. She is my new favorite true crime writer. This is an enthralling story and look into the mind of a true sociopath dwelling in our midst.

Very well done overall. Excellent acting, beautiful cinematography, intense mood and a great Italian locations. It is way better than most "blockbuster" films in this general category although I agree with most reviewers that it doesn't quite fit nicely in the "horror" genre. It is not full of cheap scares.
