Tor's mate is raped and killed in front of him by an insane challenger and he loses his will to fight. No unmated weres will fight so his owner, Maddock, buys, Sky who is the most beautiful virgin sex slave that can be found and gives him to Tor with demands that he mate him.

Maddock is in major debt and needs Tor back in the ring at all costs. Maddock even tells Sky that he will give him his freedom if Tor wind the championship. Sky and Tor quickly fall in love and the rest of the story is composed of Tor training and frequent sex scenes with a big fight at the end. With the exception of the beginning of the book, this is a very light read that is fairly entertaining. View all 53 comments. Tor may be a champion and adored by his fans, but he is only a slave.

Within the first few pages he suffers more than enough for a lifetime, and I have no idea how he found the courage and energy to go on. You can imagine how Tor feels about that. Sky is in an extremely difficult situation. And he is good! But when his heart gets involved, he is in trouble.

He cannot imagine losing Tor, but can he continue to live as a slave? This story is brutal. Not just because of the violence in the ring, but because of the emotional pain and anguish both characters go through. The author does not shirk back from making this awful situation very realistic. Unfortunately, I can see humans being cruel enough it might come to something like this.

Whenever money is involved, you just cannot tel. If you are looking for a sweet romance or an entertaining read, this is not it. But if you want a gritty vision of a somewhat nightmarish future that feels all too real, combined with a very touching love story, you might like this novel. The first chapter sucked me in because I was distressed about the death of Tor's first mate Jin, even though we knew nothing about him. Tor's anguish over his loss and witnessing his death was palpable. But someone needs to explain to me why Tor's challenger Cosack was allowed to claim Jin in the first place. We learned later that Tor kept his title and Cosack was also sanctioned and banned from the league, so why would anyone have thought that Cosack had won the match and allow him to claim Jin as his prize?

Even Tor and Jin seemed to accept Jin's fate and I just didn't get that. And why didn't Tor shift to heal himself and protest what Cosack had done before Cosack had a chance to defile and kill poor Jin? I guess I had a little trouble getting past all that. Sky was great to help Tor heal and they eventually made a great team, but I also thought Sky came across as a bit too immature and childish you could tell he was only It was at those times I again wondered about Tor's previous relationship with Jin and how much better it probably was? Anyhoo, Tor and Sky both came a long way, were good for each other in the end, and the final cage match held my interest.

I'm not sure what new plots future books in this series will offer, but there are a few characters I wouldn't mind hearing more about.

In this authors world, the were's are cage fighters, the ones with mates are the defenders and the others are challengers. The defenders and their mates are in the ring and the defender fights to protect his mate from being taken by the challenger.

It was really pretty exciting. Tor is the reigning champion but hasn't fought in six months ever since his mate was killed in the ring. His owner buys him a very expensive, virgin slave boy, to convin I really enjoyed this different take on werewolves. Sky is not what Tor wanted but he is what he comes to crave. Sky is a little stubborn, unfamiliar with the cage fighting but determined to be the very best mate and partner that Tor has ever had. To view it, click here. I completely enjoyed this one. Its a book unlike any others I've read and Lynn really latched on to something utterly amazing here that you won't be able to put down. Throughout the book all I could think about was how depressing it was what happened to Jin who was was brutally murdered right from the getgo and that event will remain with me for some time.

Reading, LIstening, and Reviewing LGBTQIA Books!

Tor is one big, growly, protective alpha shifter and I really loved reading him. I really love when big powerful men dote o Yeah, I really liked this story. I really love when big powerful men dote on their smaller men. Sky was just enough of a brat to be interesting but not so much of one not much at all to be annoying. I'll acknowledge the other reviews I read where the view spoiler [blow job more genital licking, I think hide spoiler ] was a little shocking, but I suppose the spoilers I'd read may have prepared me for it enough to not be shocked.

Also, I'd already read Ms. Lorenz's Bayou Dreams , which, if I remember correctly, has a similar scene. What this all boils down to is I'd probably give this book a 4 or 4. Being so impressed and really enjoying the smexin', too , I can't give this anything other than a five-star rating.

Now, I just need to stalk Ms. He is also a sex slave. The last thing Tor wants is another mate who might be lost to him through fighting. Will Tor find love with Sky only to lose him to freedom or worse?

I have to admit I approached this story with some trepidation. I am a fan of Lynn Lorenz. I normally shy away from fiction with a slave element, especially those with scenes of rape. But a series with werewolves fighting in a sort of gladiator werewolf fight league caught my interest and I just had to know how this author handled such a storyline. Tor , the first in the series, left me with mixed opinions.

I thought the idea of using the mixed martial arts fighting leagues in a werewolf story intriguing, especially if the setting included a Coliseum. Ancient Rome has always been a fount of inspiration for authors and using it as a basis for her world building works really well here. This is such an imaginative use of an animal rights organization when applied to werewolves that I am surprised that other authors have not thought of this and if someone has please let me know.

I only wish that this element had a larger part to play in this story. When the issues of abuse at the hands of their Masters, or being raised in substandard kennels is mentioned, it would have added another interesting layer to see this institutionalized combat slavery from outside the societal thinking on the subject. I can only hope that this aspect might be enlarged in the stories to come later in the series. Lynn Lorenz has added several new twists to the ever enlarging werewolf lore. In this series, the werewolves do not mate for life. The prettier the mate, the more intense the fight, although never to the death as that would mean a loss of income property and revenue to their masters.

Rarely have I read a wolf shifter story that changes out mates as often as occurs here although Lorenz supplies a good foundation for that.
