THE POWER OF THREE - Stories from the Dark
Look, I want the sequel, but overall this left me feeling like I just ate a dry biscuit. It had so much potential for epic badass fighting sisters, but everyone felt insipid by the end and I was heckin' bored by the lack of actual ACTION.
Also the snake people are super creepy and I'm very interested in them. View all 22 comments. This book seems to be very polarizing on my feed, and from people I love, trust, and have similar reading tastes as, so I was a little apprehensive going in. I read that first chapter with my mouth open the entire time. Instantly drawn in, immersed, and in love. Most of you probably know the synopsis of this book, but it will still bring me immense joy to tell those few who might not know.
Basically, this story is set in a world with an amazing matriarchy, where a queen will always give birth to multiple girls. For the most part, it will be triplets, each with different powers, who will be sent away to live among people who have also developed their powers. Yet, once these sisters turn sixteen, a battle will begin which only ends when only one of the girls are alive and the other two sisters dead.
This lone triplet will be the new queen of Fennbirn. This world is gloriously feminist, and I loved each point of view from the different islands. And I fell so very in love with each sister, easily, and happily. And again, this was such an amazing journey and I hope more people give this book a shot, despite the mixed reviews. And the twists and turns? I was at the edge of my seat reading this! And I was going to say one of the only downsides while reading was because a friend sort of intentionally spoiled a twist for me, but then I was completely blindsided by another immediately after.
The only reason I chose to give this four stars, instead of five, was because the actual plot itself was a little slow for my liking. This is a very character driven story, and I loved that so much, but some major plot points just felt like they took too long to get going. Even though, once they did? I watch a lot of Booktube, I read a lot of blogs, I spend too much time on book twitter, but I have never heard that Kendare Blake is Korean, ever. I immediately went to snapchat, and all of my friends, too, did not know this. On top of the fact that I loved it, and it was amazing, it warms my damn heart to picture three kickass Asian girls, trying to overcome to pressures that this world has put on them, while trying to decide their own destinies.
Seriously, this meant so much to me. But her body is weak and frail, from being forced to ingest so many poisons, and from the abuse she receives for not achieving her full potential. She is lonely, and scared, and somehow completely made her way into my heart. Katharine is my favorite of the three sisters. The world already tells tales of her power. She is almost guaranteed to be the next queen, but she is constantly struggling with the idea of killing her sisters.
She was raised among the people of the temple on her small, but very religious, island. She, too, has felt really lonely growing up. And even though Katharine is my favorite, I loved all three so much. And all three sisters are so beautifully morally grey, especially by the end of this story. Morally grey characters will forever by my favorites, and Kendare Blake gave me three strong, powerful, and smart ones to cry over and to root for.
Is this a realistic depiction of being a sixteen-year-old whose hormones are working double time? I totally ship him with the unpopular one to ship him with. I can see it being one of my all time favorite series. And I cannot wait to start One Dark Throne immediately. Also, say a prayer for me that my Target still has the signed edition that I saw a few weeks ago. View all 14 comments. Jun 13, sreeja rated it it was ok Shelves: I am so pissed and honestly this review will just be messy paragraphs of me talking about how disappointed I am.
The ending part was a HUGE improvement but honestly not enough for me to actually like this. It was definitely very interesting to see the power struggles between the different factions of the island but boy was this book tedious. I loved Katherine and Arsinoe, Mirabella was kind of just there to add drama. OK LET ME SEE um Katharine's character was really sweet and all and i felt with that ending we can see a more badass side of her and i am excited I probably loved Arsinoe the most she was very carefree and just badass but her chapters were wasted on the love triangle: NO I did not sign up for this.
First off, I hate Joseph Sandrin he is the definition of a fuckboy and i hate him. So basically, Joseph decides to hop on his boat and go somewhere. Meanwhile Mirabella; the precious princess runs away from her mansion because she needs to clear her head after having a bad dream. So she runs away and decides to create a super devastating storm just because she feels like it and thought that it would be cool. And our boy Joseph gets caught in this storm and nearly dies from drowning so Mirabella saves him, from the mess that she had created in the first place might I add.
WOW, what a great and totally necessary plot point we have here. And Mirabella obviously gets dragged home and she is heartbroken because she fell in love with someone she met for 5 minutes. Honestly, Mira should have just let Joseph drown and saved us from the love triangle and insta love. And Elizabeth is chill with it. In what world is a person alright with their right arm being severed from their body. Honestly if I was Elizabeth I would set my pet loose on Mira and probably get Katharine to poison her to be on the safe side. Please get your shit together. What was the point of all this drama though?
Like stop hating each other please, pretty please?? Look this is not even the worst part of the book. This had so much potential to become an amazing story that was dark and gripping but nah. The world building was pretty much non-existent and that is what bothers me the most about this book, there is nearly pages in this and still I did not come out of this book knowing anything about this world. This was probably the biggest disappointment.
The fact that it focuses more on love triangles and the sisters falling in love and long dramatic longing stares rather than having a gripping plot. I mean this could have been about badass sisters who yes, try to actually kill each other and it could have had amazing elements of strong female friendships and sisterhood. Jules was such a great character and instead of being with her friend who could most probably die within the year she decides that it is for the best that she spends more time pining about her cheating boyfriend.
I want strong friendships and badass and dark and this had none of it. I feel cheated omg. Katherine on one hand gets lessons from this guy Pietyr so she can make all the suitors fall in love with her during their meeting but what is the point??? But was that the main point of her chapters? It was the drama between Jules and Joesph. The very ending though like w0t is every guy in this book going to be an asshole?? There is like a huge hole in my heart right now because what was this book? Okay but hopefully the next book will actually focus more on magic and powers and people trying to kill each other rather than the sisters being caught up in drama and love triangles.

It took me a moment to get used to the POV it was written in and also, didn't really understand what was happening in the first three chapters, then when I realised that it was written from different perspectives every chapters i GOT IT! I really did enjoy this novel, the ending was brilliant.
My only issues was it could be slow at times, and not much happened in the middle of Firstly, I have to say that I really did not jell with this book. My only issues was it could be slow at times, and not much happened in the middle of the novel. Apart from that it was a good start to a series, brilliant world builder and gave insight into the characters we were introduced to Looking forward to the next book, How could a book with such a promising premise fall so flat?
This is a stupid question and by now, having been a Goodreads member for seven years, I ought to know better. The thing is, right, that the first chapter was absolutely mesmerizing. In fact, Katharine remained the only character I was even mildly interested in for the rest of the book. But sometimes I like to look at it this way: That's how good the first chapter was. Everything after the first chapter was punishing. Absolutely nothing about Arsinoe, or the limp, anticlimactic backstory of Jules and Joseph, is in any way interesting. Mirabella is just another special girl who can control the elements, the same as the 95, other YA heroines who can "command fire" or "command water".
Elemental power is so fucking tired at this point, while I know that any overused trope can be reinvented to be fresh, this book doesn't manage it. It's dry as fuck. I'm bored of even writing this review. I'm bored just thinking about this book. But the thing is, right, I was promised a story about a deathly showdown between three sisters remarkably relatable for me and what I got was bland shite romance and nonsensical world building and overused tropes that feel overused.
Just a giant meh from me, I think. Oct 24, emma rated it liked it Shelves: And after two not so fun reads, I needed it! Did I like any of the characters? In fact, I hated a bunch of them. The three queens are not my ideal. I was hoping for a little more badassery in all honesty. Mirabella is an emotional idiot who became best friends with some rando in a day, which reminded me SO MUCH of my Justin Bieber fanfiction-reading days.
Katharine starts out the same way, and Arsinoe is just kind of Maybe they'll bond in the next book over their mutual terribleness. The world building was a little rough, too. The whole thing was surprisingly low fantasy for how confusing it was. Props to Blake for not info-dumping, but the weaving in of background was a little slow for my tastes. Also, there are like a bajillion names in this? The map is, though pretty, very confusing, and the time I spent figuring out who Ellis was gave me a headache.
Nov 19, April Aprilius Maximus rated it really liked it Shelves: Feb 24, Trina Between Chapters rated it it was amazing Shelves: While I was reading this I had several people tell me they were hesitant to read it because of the mixed reviews and wanted to know what my thoughts were, so I will try to address whether or not I think you will enjoy this book. It has a slow start, and I think that's why a lot of people struggle getting into it. There are 3 POVs, set in different locations, with different politics, side characters, and types magic to learn. You essentially get 3x the introduction.
It did feel slow at first to me While I was reading this I had several people tell me they were hesitant to read it because of the mixed reviews and wanted to know what my thoughts were, so I will try to address whether or not I think you will enjoy this book. It did feel slow at first to me, but most fantasy takes a while to warm up, and considering this has to do world building 3 times I thought it was completely appropriate here.
Around page the storylines start to weave together and I felt the book really hit its stride. I never thought the pacing was slow after that. If you need instant gratification in a story, this may not be for you. A friend expressed an issue with the writing style, and honestly I had not noticed it at all until she mentioned it.
After that, I could see it if looking for it, but it wasn't something I picked out naturally. It did not hinder my reading at all and I personally had no problems with the flow of the writing. If this happens to be a style you get hung up on, I can imagine you may not like the book. If you need ships that burn with the passion of a thousand suns, this may not be the book for you. Each sister is presented with a love interest all hetero, btw but none were developed enough for me to really see why the characters cared for each other.
I was taking points off for this lack of development at first, but upon reflection I feel like Blake was purposefully playing with gender roles. How often are women in media reduced to being no more than love interests and not given complex roles? She has done this to the men in her world and I kind of appreciate it.
Romance is definitely not the forefront of the series though. One thing I enjoyed about the relationships were that they added some seriously soap opera style juicy drama for the characters to react to. I was here for it. If you can't do these tropes or the cheese, you might nope out. The plot wasn't what I was expecting. From the synopsis, we are expecting this brutal battle between the sisters.
More About the Author
This first book is really the lead up to all of that. I did feel like there was a complete story arc and was satisfied, but if you are expecting a Hunger Games style showdown to be the majority of this book, you may feel let down. If you don't like beautiful but useless world maps, you may get irritated quickly. There are so many main and important locations that aren't marked on the map and yet many things are marked that are never mentioned.
The directions are off as well. A city shown on the East side of the map is said to be West in the text. Where this book really shines, and why you might love it, is if you want a book that gives power to the matriarchy. In our world where we might talk about people with the phrase "men and women," this world leads with women: Plus I won't lie that seeing that phrasing made me really proud.
The three sister Queens were very distinct characters and I loved every single one of them. They felt well developed to me, although I wish I'd been able to spend more time with them. There are some great female friendships present. These are strong, complex women who have many layers and I can't wait to see more. Also, I had a couple of theories going throughout the book and not one of them came true yet? She really set you up to question things and right when you think you have it figured out she goes and pulls something else. I pretty much loved this.

I know it is not bad to have a good blurb but is bad when it is misleading. Most of the book my rating was 2. I mean the synopsis implies that it will be action packed, I thought that it will be like the hunger games, they will be in a forest and they will start fighting from the start. But it was slower than that, but at the same time it was not a slow-paced books.
I felt that the pacing was quite good. I mean it is not magical or whimsical as other authors but was easy to follow and there were no confusions! There was some unnecessary fast romance that helped move the plot forward but it also could have been better once again. This is a book with average characters, plot and writing. The ending was not expect-able for me and it saved the book.
Did you have high expectations and was the synopsis misleading? Who is your favorite queen? View all 18 comments. Actually, I didn't want to dnf this but I just can't bear reading it anymore. I quite enjoyed reading it, the plot was pretty good but sometimes I somehow just felt bored with this book and the characters weren't annoying or boring. They were all pretty good to read for me. I HATE love triangles so much and before reading this book I already knew that there would be love triangles BUT I didn't expect the love triangles would be this annoying and this bad.
I'm just confused over how fast the romance between Mirabella and Joseph happened and Joseph already has a girl he claimed he has loved for his whole life and he literally said that. Let him keep it. I thought Joseph only loved Jules and there was a scene that I even squealed over how sweet he was toward Jules but then it all happened so quickly and I changed my mind about him. I just felt really sorry for Jules. How could Joseph betray her?! Jules deserves someone better than Joseph. So Mirabella saved Jules and the love triangles began.
It was so fast that I was like Joseph was caught in the middle of the storm on the way to Trignor to return the boat to it's owner and Mirabella saw this and she used her gifts to help me and basically, she saved him. And the love triangles happened so fast. Like literally just met and Joseph kissed her and she kissed him back and I think they also slept together I fucking hate him. I hope he will die in the next book. Thank you for reading and liking this.
Hope you all have a great day! I love rubbing the cover. Am I the only one who does this? Dec 12, Basically, there are three dark sisters who have to try to kill each other after their sixteenth birthday because only one of them can be queen. Katharine is the youngest of the three sisters. Katharine is unable to tolerate the weakest poison.
She is small and frail and is basically sucking at being a poison witch. Arsinoe is a naturalist witch. She should be able to bloom the reddest flower and control the deadliest animals but just like her sister, Arsinoe sucks at being a witch. Mirabella is an Elemental witch and she does not suck at all. She is the fiercest of all three sisters. She started using her powers at a very young age and now the whole island is rooting for her to be queen. Well… except her two sisters. The first few chapters are packed with too much information. It gets hard to keep up after a while.
A relatively large cast of characters is introduced all at once and the magic system is also explained in those same chapters. I feel like this is the main reason why people disliked this book. Having loved Kendare's other series, I was beyond excited to get my hands on this one. First off, love love loved that we got POV from all three of the sisters. It made it so easy to relate to their turmoil and the situation as a whole. Because we got to see and know everything, it definitely made for some delicious tension and screaming while reading. Kendare Blake's my go-to author for vivid descriptions, intimidating plotlines, and shocking surprises. She delivered all three of those in Three Dark Crowns , but the pacing and romance were so off that I couldn't fall in love with the book in the way I wanted to.

Power of Three Stories | FanFiction
She has these gorgeous descriptions that aren't boring to read at all--they made the story so much richer, and more to imagine. There was a complex world with some interesting politics and backstories! I mean, c'mon guys, you've read the synopsis, right? How kick-ass can that backstory get? We have three queens who are destined to kill each other, so there was bound to be some intense world-building to explain everything--and for me, Blake definitely succeeded in this aspect.
She also manages to insert about three million crazy twists at the end of the book. Each of the three queens had different stories and difficulties. Of course, I have a favorite and a least favorite, but I appreciated the characterization nonetheless. Like I said earlier: There's a promise of so much evil and darkness in the plot, and while the atmosphere felt that way, the actual story lacked the evilness that could have been.
I think the twists at the end made up for it, though. The pacing was so weird. Well, weird may be too strong of a word. Most of the time, things went on at an incredibly slow pace. Kendare Blake'ss my go-to author for vivid descriptions, intimidating plotlines, and shocking surprises. Three queens are born. They bond when they are little, bond a little when they are little, separated to strengthen their individual powers naturalist, poisoner, and elemental and then… … then they must kill each other so one can sit on the throne, have triplets, and start the cycle over again.
Three Black Witches, all fair to be seen two to devour and one to be queen. I know what you ar WrensReads Review: I know what you are thinking… because I thought the same thing: Like you are forcing three teenaged girls to go out and kill their two sisters to rule over people who want you to do the same thing to your children? But, strangely, everyone is okay with it. The three main powers: These people have the power over like living animals and plants. They can make things bloom and control animals sometimes.
Their familiar shows the strength of their power. Another has a rooster A poisoner is the power that has held onto the thrown the longest. They can digest poison of any kind and not even get sick from it. So, they just always eat poison to show they are unkillable. Water, Fire and Air. I would love to have this power. They can control those elements So, our triplet queens, Mirabella Elemental , Arsinoe Naturalist and Katharine Poisoner are amping up to kill each other.
They must court suitors and please the people in the meantime before that time comes. The book is super overwhelming in the beginning. I thought this was going to be a four star and then that twist happened at the end and it became a five star. Our three queens are in completely different places than where they were in the beginning of the book.
The journey is worth it. I feel Jules deserves a shout too because she is just as talked about and mentioned as the queens are. She is friends with Arsinoe and is the one with the Cougar. Her journey is just as important and is tangled up with at least two of the queens at this time. Give this book a try if you love graphic details, fantasy and just a darker book than the normal young adult fantasy genre. Totally normal action things. Dec 05, Jenna Major rated it really liked it Recommends it for: I gave Three Dark Crown's 4.
I thoroughly enjoyed this book. This is my personal current ranking of the queen's: I enjoyed all of the little story arcs, characters and writing. I found the writing style different then what I am used to, but not in a bad way. I quite enjoyed it. What it is about! This fantasy book takes place on an island, a secret place that is unbeknownst to most of the mainlanders those who aren't on the island. On this island, most people are blessed with a gift. The three most common are poisoner, naturalist and elemental.
There are also the gifts of sight and war but those are rarer. This world, like most fantasy worlds, are ruled by a monarchy of sorts. Every generation, there are 3 queens born. The 3 queens are raised in seclusion together until they are 6 years old. The Queen that survives, becomes the next queen.
About the 3 Queens: Arisnoe is the 'naturalist' and lives in a tiny village on a coast of the island. A naturalist entails being one with nature, having the ability to help plants bloom and have special connections with animals. Arisnoe's best friend and the one designated to help her develop her gift, is the most powerful naturalist the island has seen in almost 60 years. Unfortunately, Arisnoe has not been able to access her gift and the ascension year is upon them. Giftless, Arisnoe is deemed weak and does not believe she will live through the year.
She seems to have somewhat accepted this and tries to enjoy her life while she can with her friends and the town that helped raise her. Mirabella is an 'elemental'. This means she can control elements such as; water, fire, wind and lightning. She is very strong and all over the island people talk of her strength. This year, the temple has backed Mirabella.
This is unheard of and they will do anything it takes to secure Mirabella the throne. Katherine is the youngest of the 3 sisters and is the 'poisoner'. Being a poisoner is a lot of pressure because the last 3 queen's have been poisoner queen's. The Arron's the family raising her do not want to give up their power. Katherine is supposed to have a natural immunity to poisons, but her gift is very weak. She is small, skinny, pale and sickly looking because of being poisoned throughout her childhood.
They are trying to build up her immunity because she doesn't seem to have much natural immunity. The woman caring for her, Natalia is nice but has a wicked sister who does not mind abusing Katherine to get what she wants. Katherine may have a weak immunity, but she does have an affinity with brewing poisons. All three queen's must prove their strength as the ascension year is upon them and only one can come out alive. This book is full of many different characters and story arcs that are sure to keep you interested.
It follows not only the 3 queen's but characters close to them as well. With power, family, friends, politics, love, life, death and the kingdom on the line, it is a thrilling read. I recommend this to all YA fantasy lovers!! The rest of my review contains spoilers Alrighty! What a whirlwind of a book that was. Then we got into the whole low magic thing which involved a lot of blood. I feel like Jules and everyone sort of gave up on Arisnoe, like they knew nothing was going to happen. That thought died quick.

I was thoroughly pissed at Joseph throughout this book. Not down for that. I hope Katherine poisons him in the next book, that would be a great idea because then Mirabella AND Arisnoe will be mourning him. But Jane and Banan have other things to worry about, the unknown enemy is stepping up his game. When Jane's life is in danger all bets are off. Acceptance is no longer the issue and both Jane and Banan discover what real love is. Sometimes there is more to the story than what we read in the book. Is Elena strong enough to fight fir their live? Then smack him upside his head Banan at least is smart enough to get the girl to commit as soon as possible. All Jane has to do is say yes. This story was a pause in the war.. Just sharing a vignette in their lives. I really enjoyed re reading the novellas.
Each story wad fun and sweet and combined a great lead up to the full length novels. A couple of things to consider.. Feb 06, KathyAnne rated it really liked it Shelves: This story originally came out in three novellas and this book is a way to get them all at once.
And, the author has added a bonus story Each of these novellas is about a Dragon King and the woman they fall in love with. I won't go into detail about each one I'm currently reading those novellas as they are released and there are gaps and places where I felt like I was missing out on something that had already happened. Which is why I stopped to read this Because these are all short stories things can seem a bit rushed and there is not as much attention to detail which make these fast and easy reads. I really like all of these characters and it was fun watching these powerful dragon kings succumb to love.
Especially when they didn't think it was possible. So, if you're into hot, steamy, strong and powerful Dragon shifters I highly recommend this series ARC was provided by St. Mar 04, Seven Sinful rated it really liked it. Safe to say, I thoroughly enjoyed it. It is a collection of stories about the Dragon Kings that reside on earth and the women they fall in love with. The men are as different as the dragons they turn into, but all are strong, sexy and unwilling to believe that these women are theirs.
Falling in love for them is supposed to be impossible and it's funny watching the heroines scramble the minds of very primitive alpha males. The build up is lovely, in such short stories, sometimes it can feel rushed, but the sexual tension mounts from the first meeting, accompanied by fear and banter and confusion and it leads wonderfully into the inevitable physical intimacy.
There are some smoking sex scenes and depending on which Dragon King you eventually back, you'll find your favourite. A quick, fun, hot read for those who like dragon shifters and men with swords. I'll definitely be reading this author again. Dec 31, Maureen C rated it really liked it. Loved the novellas when I first bought them and only bought this for the new story that was added on for this edition only.
Too bad there isn't a way to please those of us who have previously purchased novellas by letting us get the extras without having to buy the stories all over again, but I can't complain as I enjoyed the new story and look forward to this new series. Jan 23, Mari Smut Duchess rated it really liked it Shelves: I listened to the audio version with Romance Unlimited. It's a collection of short stories about the Dragon Kings.
These are 'old school' paranormal stories about dragon shifters. Once the world was ruled by dragons but a war with humans had the dragon kings sending their dragons to a different dimension. They used their magic to spell their fellow dragon king so he couldn't shift and command his dragons. Each dragon king rules a specific color of dragons. Now the kings hang out in a Scottish ca I listened to the audio version with Romance Unlimited. Now the kings hang out in a Scottish castle, run a distillery and keep an eye on the spelled ex king. When they get weary of the world they fall into a deep sleep so there are only a few awake at a time.
Three stories were about three of the dragon kings falling in love. Also, two short stories about the couples 'bonding'. There is sex and romance but it isn't quite a graphic as some paranormal stories. I enjoyed the couples and a break from books that seem to be no more then one endless sex scene.
Three Dark Crowns
Jun 16, Amanda D. I'm looking into starting the Dark Kings series and several reviews mentioned reading the prequel novellas first. This novella collection did a great job setting up the mythology and current state of Dreagan Industries. Some info was a bit repetitive as it was repeated in each novella and of course, the romance happened pretty quickly. But I breezed through the collection and I'm eager to get started with the first, full-length novel. Feb 03, Dottie rated it it was amazing. Paranormal romance at its best! Taken from my review at RomanceJunkies. A compilation of four delectable novellas After all, she is a human and Hal is sure his dragon magic had put an end to such an attraction, especially for kings like himself.
But he cannot deny his craving for Cassie and the feeling seems to be mutual. But what will happen when she discovers she has fallen in love with a dragon? Will his secret be safe? But Elena was not told that she would be visiting caves situated on Dreaghan land. After several hours, all she wants is to go home, but an accident leaves her boss dead and Elena injured deep inside a mountain. Since one of his fellow dragon kings recently found his soul mate, a human no less, Guy has been feeling out of sorts.
Due to their history with humans, the dragons performed a spell that keeps the kings from forming alliances with them…a spell that no longer seems to be working. To have a future together, she will have to give up everything she knows and accept them as they are. Will she be able to fit into their world, or will she give up Guy for good? When he meets Jane Holden, he believes she may be part of the threat, so he resists the woman, regardless of how badly he desires her. When danger strikes, he is the one she turns to and he will do whatever it takes to keep her safe as he realizes she is his destiny.

However, Elena had given up her career to be with him and lately, he has noticed offers for jobs coming in and Elena seems wistful. Believing he is holding her down and wanting to give her happiness, he sets her free without even discussing it with her.
Elena gave up her former life to be with Guy and that is all she wants. She is heartbroken when Guy leaves and all she gets is a call telling her he wants her to be happy. Thinking he does not love her anymore, she must make a decision. Should she leave, or stay and fight for his love? Combining four delectable stories in one book, bestselling author Donna Grant packs her latest novel, DARK HEAT, with suspense, action, incredible world building, passion, sigh worthy romance and eternal love.
Both stories are included in this book. Each of the stories seems to flow into the next one, so you do not want to miss even one of these beautifully written tales. Take my advice; run, do not walk, to the nearest bookstore and pick up a copy! Aug 13, Valerie rated it really liked it Shelves: I've been in such a paranormal mood lately. I decided it was finally time to dive into this series. I read a novella that's later in the series already but wanted the whole thing!
So glad because I love the world the Dragon Kings make up and will want to visit it often. This book is the first three novella that start the series in one place. It actually includes a little more with Passion's Claim at the end. But the stories perfectly set-up this world and introduce us to the main characters. Each I've been in such a paranormal mood lately. Each story emphasizes a different king and his discovery of the women that changes him forever.
I loved them all. Dark Craving is Hal's story. He is drawn to Cassie when she comes to stay at her brother's cottage. It's not normal for a dragon king to fall in love because that part of them has been blocked with magic. Something is not right here. We don't learn the reason - it becomes part of the overarching series question along with the silvers moving.
It leaves some mysteries and interest to keep me reading but it does tie up Hal and Cassie. I enjoyed their story, though it was too short. Night's Awakening is Guy's story. Elena gets forced into a caving outing that changes her life. Meeting Guy there and trying to understand what's going on has her confused and hurt.
