Buttons and Babs Run Lifes Race: Heavenly Pals Series

Good meeting, thanks to all attendees and secretaries! Next up is our AGM on Dec 9th, put a note in your diary. Chip butties may be an agenda item Just the one BaHa at this one It's a fast, flat and well organised one-and-three-quarter lap route, fairly scenic and very flat. I ran last year too so knew what was to be expected. Pleased to finish 42nd in 34'58, odd finishers. Recommended for anyone chasing a fast 10K time in late summer, and it was nice to see friends from AC and Kingstone there as well.

In contrast to the boring route of the fleetwood half last week- thought i'd try something a bit different- All good fun this one- no set route just 10 checkpoints to visit! Luckily I had my secret weapon with me in the form of Aunty Di who sort of knew the way! The race started with a long climb to totley moor trig point- the route then took us down the other side of the hill over some nice stepping stones and back up another right long hill!

Off we went over the hill up higger tor, over to hathersage and up another right steep hill called Mitchell's field- nearly there just over to padley gorge, back up to totley trig point and back to the clubhouse to collapse!! The totley gang provided a very welcome cuppa at the end accompanied by a cheese sandwich and a slice of lemon cake- yum!! All good fun- loved it!! I meant - JoBissell, The race title says it all, other than it being a road race and tough actually means hilly.

It is all on quiet country roads and being this time of year tractor dodging is also part of the challenge. Jeff finished in 1: Great run and great report SlowF. Your now impeccable timing meant you entered your race report right on the stroke of "Migrate the BaHa website to a better server" by our hosting company and it was lost in the transfer!

And I'd have got away with it if wasn't for those pesky kids. Diary of a sub 2 hour half marathon runner — 7am: As I was mainly concentrating on getting us there safely, I needed a towel and fluids upon arrival at our race venue due to being drenched and severely dehydrated. Following numerous well wishes from my fellow BaHas and Keith Littlewood from AC, I set off on my 3rd attempt of to break the elusive 2 hour barrier. With Garry Nock by my side, we started to grind down the miles albeit at a tad quicker than Slow Farah pace and went through the first half in Thankfully, Garry and my switch flicking companion Spoons, cleared any negative thoughts for the last mile and guided me home in 1 hour, 58 minutes and 23 seconds!

And what a reception when I had finished…a massive Black n Tan cheer, spark the post run drink and food fest celebrations…. The next 24 hours has been well documented on Facebook but it consisted of Rich eating…everybody drinking copious amounts of alcohol…Rich eating Richard Spooner first local runner home and 14th out of runners. Weather may be a bit iffy but it'll not be hot.

If the heavy stuff stays away I'll have a quid on a This one is the relay. Good news is it's shorter than normal Romp. With one leg to go, young Stephen is in 1st place in the veterans category with points, 26 points clear of the second placed vet. Joanne Birkinshaw is in 5th place in the veterans section. We raced this back in and now I remember why we were not in a rush to get back to it.

On a positive note the course is flat and is quite pleasant run on roads, paths and bridleways taking you across fields and a significant part of the race is through woods. Questionable marshalling resulted in shortcuts being taken. The course is mostly on narrow paths so there was a huge amount of congestion — this eased around the 4K mark for me! I'm sure, and it's in new money!! I didn't get where i am today, by not knowing where to get 4 Mars Bars for a pound!

Or is that old money?? Is that your way of saying you really enjoyed it John? Last run a Spencers Dash in September , 13 years ago. If i'm still living in 13 years time will somebody please remind me not to do it again. If it's in the Black n Tan next year, someone else can have my points and i'll have the 16 Mars Bars instead!! A good turnout for this last minute addition to the Black n Tan but not by Harriers! Just me running It's a mile down the road and Geoff taking photos for this friendly little fund-raiser run by Kimmy Striders. Be good to get more BaHas out for this one next year.

First Harrier back and fifty points, in 9th! Results, well done all: It was windy on the downhill sections and sunny on the uphills. The race was resurrected after a 5 year absence and was very well organised even if we were put off at the start with the intense health and safety briefing following the organisers risk assessment.

Winner did it in Tough little route, starting with m round track followed by m hill then a 3 lap loop which consisted off, down hill dash round on the flat by the duck pond and hill climb before m downhill dash back to the track for a sprint finish. So if you fancy this race, they are now allowing entries on the night.

See you there next week. Bit late, but was great social event, despite the heat! Wrote a little blog post about the event from my point of view: Really enjoyed this hot and sweaty event Wrote a little report on my first Trunce experience on the blog I maintain on my way to the Causeway Coast Marathon: Never done a 10k as hard as this but boy, did I have a great time!

Thanks to everyone for making Ross welcome, to the indestructible Amy for doing what Amy does, and to Nannan's Portions and Terry for being there for everyone. Have never shut up since I got home! What a fantastic effort by all us BaHas. From around 7pm to 4am the rain bucketed down making the conditions atrocious but we ran and ran and ran. Well done to everyone and our various support people. A fantastic event to be repeated. Now looks like we're going Fri, but still have room if anyone's stuck. If anyone's wanting a lift I'm happy to oblige - looking at the mo' to go down quite early on the Sat.

Well done everyone, especially our first-timers! Well done you two. First Vet 60 prize for Richard Taylor. Pleasant drive over the Pennines to Hadfield. Familiar faces from Kingstone helping to fly the Barnsley flag. Race started on the football field Strangeways playing! Thanks to Geoff for the encouragement on the trail. Enjoyed the course and the Bishop Wilton Show afterwards, which you get free entry into as part of the race entry fee.

Bug bear, as every year, it take the organisers ages to issue the results.

Game list - SpeedRunsLive

A good turnout of 18 Harriers, with an outstanding 14 new personal best times, and First local runner home was young Rich Spooner. A good turnout of BaHas on this very hot and sticky evening, well done to everyone who ran. A very enjoyable race around the grounds of Nostell Priory on a very hot and humid evening. Lovely scenic views and plenty of crowds to cheer you on in front of the house. We would definitely recommend this one for next year, results- th Neil Fox According to the results two other Harriers also ran th Raymond Archer It's been a while since I went to a Club run so these must be new members, lol.

Joanne Birkinshaw 6th out of Stephen Whiteley 2nd, Shaun Clarkson 8th out of Impressed, well done to each and every one. Did a couple of miles Sun and it was more than enough for me! Well done everyone on a very hot day. I count 13 finishers, will be allocating league points based on this. If I have missed anybody out then let me know! Well done guys, tough out there yesterday! The event itself was well organised albeit they may decide to post the numbers out next year! Fantastic team spirit and support as always. They could have perhaps done to turn the thermostat down a couple of notches, but that was really par for the course with anyone racing yesterday.

Onto the results and we had a couple of decent PBs, despite the weather Of recorded finishers: All in all a decent race, well worth considering next year for anyone either chasing a 5 mile time, or even just fancying a nice day out on the coast Of course it was hot day which made it all the more challenging.

This is our third year of running this one. Not sure why we go back it may be the bottle of beer and t-shirt they give you at the end. I won my age category in 1: Whoops, sorry Garry - you must have been a blur on my list! Sorry, let Rich do a job and look what happens!! Well done everyone, another excellent turnout yet again. Brilliant support from everyone and expert advice from Chairman Meade.

Ian looked at my new shoes and said, is it wise to buy new shoes at my time of life!!! Best take them back and get a refund. Thanks to Amie club member of the year Ledger and Mrs Goodyear for all the cakes and buns. Plenty of new faces as well, so thanks all for turning out. Hopefully the cakes and biscuits helped give you some welcome relief afterwards Thanks again to everyone for taking part — it made for a really enjoyable event with a great supportive atmosphere.

See you all again here next year! Also good to see Neil Fox sticking to the main Harriers Club rule!! Also well done to young Rich on winning the 5th Overall prize. Results here for the 26 BaHas, well done everyone! Feel sorry for Benben, having to slow down to run with Rich. Results as follows — Men of 45 complete finishing teams: Ladies of 41 complete finishing teams: Once again, well done guys!

Splendid run Claudia, another new PB, this time 1 minute and 47 seconds faster. New member Neil Fox - Maximum 50 points for the second time in two days for Bryan Clayton, who finished 44th overall, and 2nd Vet 50, out of finishers. Jenny Lingrell had another excellent run to win the 1st LV40 prize and also win the maximum 50 points in the ladies challenge.

Another new member Adrian Torasiuk, had a splendid debut to finish 2nd Harrier home. It was hot and humid with the occasional downpour of rain during this nice 10k run that took lots of twists and turns through sandal beat woods to the race course and back again. Technical teeshirt at the end too. Nice to see steve Hughes who said he may join a club run some time soon. All good fun- loved it - JoBissell, Running his first race for the club, new member Neil Shaw ran well to finish in 49th place out of finishers.

No results yet, but another good turn out of Harriers despite injuries, holidays and work. Excellent run by Bryan Clayton, who finished 5th or 6th? Also splendid run by Lesley Latchem, who won the 1st LV35 prize. Nice little event this one. Lets see lots of 'Arriers. Free chip butties post race. First running of the Handsworth Hobble. Lovely evening, only about thirty runners, familiar faces from Kimmy and one from Penistone. Friendly well marshalled race over paths across fields and through shady woods. Enjoyed by Jo Bissell and her dad. Dad won age group prize! Given the sheer amount of rainfall in during the whole day of the event, the prospect of local running clubs running 73 miles was an even more daunting task than usual at 8am at Cannon Hall, Cawthorne last Sunday morning.

However the sun shone brightly this year, hundreds of keen runners from many of our local running clubs took up the challenge in the Barnsley Boundary Relay, the town's biggest race. Now in its twentieth year, the race was once again an outstanding success. This year it featured 26 teams, a new record for the race, with teams from Barnsley AC, Barnsley Harriers, Penistone, Kingstone, Denby Dale and Kimberworth running clubs plus a team from the Barnsley accountancy firm Gibson Booth in a whole host of categories - men, ladies, veteran and mixed teams. This is by far and away the most running teams that have ever competed in the event.

The event route circumnavigates the old Barnsley Borough Boundary, and is split into a ten leg relay race spanning 73 country miles of footpaths, trails and lanes around the town. Starting at Cannon Hall, Cawthorne at 8am, the route takes the team runners as far afield as Hickleton to the east, Tankersley and Wharncliffe to the south and Langsett and Winscar to the west.

The stages are between 4 and 11 miles in length, with final runners completing the event at around 4pm back at Cannon Hall. As usual, rivalry was keen and competitive across all of the various categories. Barnsley AC Vet 40s and Vet 50s triumphed in their respective age group categories, whilst an impressive effort from Kingstone Runners Mixed team A saw them finish in an excellent time of 9. Barnsley AC secured the Ladies title in 9 hours 50 minutes and 30 seconds, hotly pursued by Kimberworth Ladies to take second place in this category.

Gibson Booth won a new award for , the Company Challenge. The event, which is presented annually by Barnsley Rockley Rotary Club and is marshalled and organised by Barnsley Harriers, concluded with a very well attended prize ceremony at Shaw Lane Sports Club in the evening. All funds raised by the event go to Rotary charities.

The event has raised many thousands of pounds over the years for the Rotary Foundation and other local charities. The overall final event results for all teams taking part were as follows: A very proud day to wear the black and tan - , A very proud day to wear the black and tan - Scottdog, Can people please arrive at 6: Quite a few trophies to hand out etc, so please support the event if you can. Cheers - Lee, This was fun- just me fron the harriers for this nice run- the start was on Tarmac and then i was greeted with a steep climb which was just around the corner but out of sight from the start line.

The trail started through woodland and then on some rubbley footpaths up to ilkley moor. The climb continued as I ran up to the highest point on the moor where there were some fab views- I thought the climb was over but the route took us then on some more paths and trails which seemed to have an upward direction- good job I like hills eh?? The last mile or so was back on some path we ran up and back through the woodland- all down hill- to the finish for a bottle of water and a shot glass!! Mark, if it's any consolation I did this two years ago as a training run for the Himalayas - I think I said at the time it was the toughest half I'd done!

Instead of water stations I thought they may have had tables with canisters of oxygen. Definitely one for the recommendation form me thinks. Anyway came in at 2hours 5ish. Really good race with some amazing views and challenging climbs The baking hot temperatures and little wind didn't help but still the amazing views were enough to keep you distracted. All in all a very well organised race and definitely recommended for those who like hills!! Sorry it's late, just back from holiday and still jet laged. Excellent running by everyone and some huge PB's.

Sorry, typo by me! Trunce results as follows: We can then get you added to the results and also count you in the BnT points. I know we are missing Adele Kitchen, does anybody know what time she came in? Is anybody else missing? Send them a results query option on their website saying that it was you and not Rach who came in, and that Rach didn't run. There are a few other issues we have noticed with some runners missing from Kimmy and Kingstone so I guess the results may change over the next few days anyway.

Either the marshal misread my number or Rachel Nothard is running much slower these days. Can I still have my points if I'm due any? Had a few already this year who have missed out due to not wearing the club kit, don't let all your efforts be in vain: D - Amz, New member Clare Stewart running her first ever half marathon, finishing in 2,st place, in a good time of Nine BaHas including Georgi, there as a Sweatshop runner and I think we all came away from it very happy, both those running the distance for the first time and those returning to it — plenty of shiny new PBs on show!

After a slightly delayed start we were off, ably shouted on by a support crew of Lisa Steers and Adelle Kitchen and on the course At various points, on foot, having a very welcome trot round my paparazzi-in-waiting, Geoff Hayes. Apologies if others got PBs, statto will be along to confirm. Also well done to Neil Johnson, only 3 seconds off his best time and Andrew Pearson just 4 seconds off his previous best.

How do you get a PB on a course like that?? Scott Wilson 2 minutes and 03 seconds faster, Joanne PB Birkinshaw 1 minute and 52 seconds faster, first time under 40 minutes, Claudia Darby 1 minute and 36 seconds faster, Janine Brown 40 seconds faster Vick Levitt 19 seconds faster and Scott Briggs 17 seconds faster. And for those who ran all four races, check the link here to see how you were placed overall in your age category cheers Jerry for the file upload! In the teams, we retained our fifth placing with the Senior Men though positions changed and we finished just behind Askern and in front of Steel City Striders — only six teams completed the series.

We kept our placing in the Vet Men Category too, finishing 6th of 11 teams! Last but not least, our Ladies finished 8th out of 13 teams. Very well done everyone, thanks for taking part and flying the BaHa flag! An excellent turnout of 24 BaHas for the last in this spring race series — thanks everyone for making the trip, and welcome belatedly to Mike Schofield and Gaby Wolferink, running their first Road Leagues with us!

Individual results as follows, of finishers: Well run everyone, great efforts! Your legs are still aching Rich, i should know better by now, not to run two races in two days. Not too bad after Burbage, but Pickburn finished me off last night. Don't know how you got round that course in !! My legs are still aching from that Aye, well done everyone, excellent running and some great debuts!

Well done everyone today in Manchester. Thanks to all those who supported us, especially Geoff who seemed to be everywhere on the course. Had planned to follow the runners as I did with London, but the live web link for tracking runners never became live. Sorry to those who wanted updates as our runners progressed - we will just have to wait to hear from them. Good Luck to all the Harriers running this one!

I am running this one and my number is Still a good run Justin another new PB, this time another 1 minute and 26 seconds faster. Following my recent disappointment in not breaking the 2 hour mark at the South Yorkshire Half in March, C'Slow targeted this minimal hill event as an ideal opportunity to achieve his goal. Unfortunately rather than breaking my duck I ended up waddling like one as the pre race advice of telling Captain Slow to slow down in the first few miles clearly fell on deaf ears as my race effectively ended on the banks of the River Trent with 2 miles to go.

Normal C'Slow pace resumed as my webbed feet crossed the line in just over 2 hours. My trauma was about to get worse as I was greeted by Jerry's bruised arse cheek, a present that he had brought back from his 6th skiing trip of A very well organised event. Good work from Jerry and C'Slow today, the latter just missing out on his sub-2 hour time by 17 seconds it'll come, trust me! Nice post-race Costa by the sounds too - as if there was a branch Jerry didn't know about Thanks, yes thoroughly enjoyed this one. Si cruised in as fresh as when he set off.

Lets just say I didn't lol. Well run you two and a new PB for Simon, 1 minute and 26 seconds faster. Si, Lesley was telling me about your sprint finish when I saw her at the Trunce last night ;- - richspooner, Despite the weather forecast being good, we were pelted with blinding horizontal sleet at the summit of Pen-y-Ghent before the sun came out.

Although quite unfit after more Achilles trouble I was keen to run a bit quicker than last year. I got off to a good start and by Ribblehead I was 10 minutes ahead, but was starting to feel a bit sick and dizzy and it all went downhill from there, my race not the terrain! At the top of Ingleborough I tripped and took a chunk out of my hand and knee, triggering cramp in my calf. I also hurt my foot and a week later can only just walk again. Never mind, it was a nice day for a long walk! Pauline set off at a cracking sub-4 pace but suffered with cramp and finished in 4: Photos here might inspire someone else to try it next year Great going this too — the competition is tough across the county, and many teams drop out over the series with other commitments marathons etc.

Some very impressive times too, and we definitely ran a full 5 miles on this occasion! A big 'well done' to each and every one! Excellent performances by everyone. This time a PB by 2 minutes and 49 seconds!! Well done to Gerard Tayeh for another marathan PB, this time 2 minutes and 13 seconds faster!! Good luck everyone - Scottdog, Hope you all have a good run. Will be watching on TV with a coffee or two. With it being a long race, i have bought extra cakes and Mars Bars.

Don't want to run out of steam. Best of luck to all Harriers running this weekend - enjoy! Good luck to everyone running in this, and other biggies. Enjoy, run well, stay safe and Well run young Rachel. Don't like the sound of the hilly course and mud, but i do like the bit about the cakes etc at the finish.

It was odda Rachel not to mention it but apparently there was a load of gorse to run through too! Just the 1 Harrier here today - me! Time on my watch Not my best 10K time then! Sorry to hear you're still suffering Darren, it's been a while now! Look forward to seeing you both there later. Rich, our Alex is coming down for a session on the track, I'm still suffering with bad knees! A short course 4. At least we all ran the same course!

Individual results from the 30 BaHas as follows, of recorded finishers: Well run everyone, great going! Will update on teams as soon as I hear Splendid run young Bev. Another excellent Marathon time. Great time Bev, well done: To quote the Boston Athletic Association organisers of the marathon. In terms of slick organisation, crowd and volunteers support and the appreciation Bostonians frequently showed us for taking the time to travel to their city to take part in the marathon made this event exceptional.

I crossed the finish line in 3: After cancelling the event two weeks ago because of five foot snowdrifts, what a relief and pleasure it was to reorganise the Silkstone Shuffle at such short notice on Saturday and welcome warm sunshine and over runners to the first leg of the four race series. Presented by Barnsley Harriers, it is a race of 4 and a half miles on trails, stony tracks and grassy paths, plus a little bit of road on an undulating route that is now in its tenth year. Regularly attracting around runners it has become a leading event in the local calendar.

Despite the improved weather on the morning, underfoot conditions were tricky to say the least with lots of mud and water on the course. Nevertheless some great racing ensued and there were some top performances across the board. First home was Rochdale Harrier Phil Williams in a great time of Mike Egner set an excellent new V50 course record. A good day for Sheffield then! Well done and thank you to all who took part and helped on the day. A big thank you to all the Harriers that baked all those wonderful cakes and buns today. Almost got round without getting my shoes muddy, but all the cakes at the end made it all worthwhile.

Excellent amount of money raised for charity. A big thank you to Amie for organizing the event and also to all the Harriers for making it another splendid morning. PS Howsey's homemade Bakewell Tarts were something special!! A massive thank you to all who baked and a bigger thank you to those who bought - Amz, Cake sale on at the new date - bring a little extra and treat yourself after a hard race. All donations going to charity! The first of the Silkstone Shuffle Series, which was cancelled because of snow, is now on Saturday 13 April.

All other details as previous - Just been around the course this evening, running on top of 5 feet of frozen snow hoping you don't fall through up to your neck was fun! Following a full inspection this morning, Saturday's race is off. There is black ice on the tarmac roads and 5 foot snowdrifts block the ascent.

Ice makes the stiles treacherous and ploughed fields mean parts of the descent are not runnable. The path section next to the busy A is blocked. If this isn't enough, the Pavilion approach road is uncleared, meaning parking here and in much of the village would be impossible. We apologise for all this but will make every effort to reschedule it and announce something next week.

Inspection of course and surrounding area will take place on Thursday. Please check back here for further details. This should be my debut second time around - Scottdog, So if you don't fancy eating anything straight away you can take some cake home to enjoy with a nice cuppa after the race. At club meeting last night it was decided that at the first Shuffle of the series we will have a bit of a 'cake sale'. The Shuffle falls on Easter Sat this year.

If anybody would like to bake anything then please do so and bring it along. To all those who are coming to run, help or spectate bring an extra little bit of cash, pop it in the tin and grab a bit of cake: Quick update on team placings too - we're now 7th out of 8 teams in Senior Men, still 4th of 14 teams in the Vet Men, and 6th of 15 teams in the Ladies. Our Senior Men and Ladies have only dropped one place due to the addition of Totley's teams.

And without further ado, here are final results from Race 1 of finishers: Brilliant turnout of 35 BaHas, makes you proud to be a Harrier: Also to confirm, this race will be in the Club Leagues, rather than Oxspring as originally planned. Cheers Scott - yep, they're looking at alternatives as we speak. Keep an eye on the Notice Board or facebook for updates - richspooner, This is now cancelled due to snow - Scottdog, A few photos here: Grassy paths, rocky woodland trails, towpaths, bits of road, fells, peat bogs, snow and ice, hills did I mention, all great fun though.

Fab event, well run and one for the future I'm sure. Didn't look untill pm, too late again!! Results, of 64 recorded finishers: This first race is closer to 5 miles distance due to an obstruction on one of the usual footpaths, meaning the course is now rerouted through the roads into Cawthorne village. Snow surprise, it's cancelled! That's a lot of Mars Bars! This was the inaugural Richmond Half Marathon and it showed.

We were staying in Kingston Upon Thames over the weekend so decided to enter this race close by. The entry numbers could have been collected from a local running store during the week before the race or picked up on race day. One of the issues we had is that along with the race entry numbers was the race day instructions which made finding the place a bit of a challenge. The post code emailed out for sat nav purposes was entirely wrong.

That and the London parking zones making it practically impossible to park resulted in us being on the last push to collect our numbers. Most runners were doing the same so we all had a long wait in the cold to get our numbers. After a couple of miles it thinned out a bit and as we were using the race as a training run we settled in to enjoy the course which is run on some of the tow paths along the Thames, as well as some road terrain.

New PB for Richard, 39 seconds faster. And you're right - cakes consumed, chickens chased, ducks dried etc ;- Well run lads! Will def be there again next year, though hoping the 33'xx will have been well and truly nailed on by then Slight issue at the start this year too — runners were assembling ready for the start when a bus came up behind us.
