Tough Biker Gets Turned (M/M Gay Werewolf Erotica)
I have always felt she has treated her LGBT characters with respect and intention in her other works, and it is all the more obvious here. One of those might work. Only with a cock. Quiet descended and they puttered about the kitchen together in companionable silence. Mana seemed to be dampening her nature somehow, not so abrasive and commanding.
Or perhaps that was coming from him, part of this numbness. It gave him the ability to pry. I self-heal, just like you. So, there is only acceptance and the courage in it. I suppose I should be transgender , under modern parlance. But I like drag queen. I like the fabric roughness of drag , and the royalty of queen. This character could have so easily been just a comedic side-character. And if that is how the author treats her secondary characters, you can be damn sure that her protagonists are wonderfully written. They have layers and flaws—some not so obvious on first or second inspection—and grow throughout the book in the way all good characters should.
Max is snarky—but also is afraid to put himself out there in fear of rejection—and Bryan is strong—but that comes from carrying the weight of his need to care for those he loves. Reading this book was never a chore because each new chapter brought to light a new facet of their personalities. The give and take, the rise and fall, of their relationship was understandable and sympathetic. Though I will admit to wanting to shake Max a bit at the end there. Yet I never once thought either of them acted out of character—just maybe acting on the less stellar parts of that character.
If there is one flaw in this book, it is the world building. See, I really love the world in this story. Especially as you get to know it more as the story progresses. It is interesting and sucked me in with each new revelation. However…this book comes at you fast and hard with terms and designations of the various beings and magic referred to as quintessence in this world users. If you are not paying close attention it can be a bit easy to get lost from time to time. It gets easier as the story progresses and the bones of the world become more obvious, but there were times when I was having to pause reading and try to remember just what a certain character or designation could do.
It occasionally made the story a bit start-and-stop. I will say though that I believe this is one of those books that is far better on the second read, than on the first, because I came out the of the end of the book having a firmer grasp on this world. This story ended up being a real pleasure to read. There were a few things I think could have been tightened up a little, but to be honest? I am now truly curious to see where this series goes.

Her series The Parasol Protectorate has been one of my favorites since reading it for the first time like six years ago. I love just about everything she puts out. Carriger has such a knack for creating solid paranormal romance novels with steampunk elements. Personally, I prefer vampires over werewolves or shifters when it comes to paranormal romance or just paranormal reading, but this book made me really enjoy werewolves and shifters.
I loved the setting and how the supernatural characters evolved and how they worked within the novel itself. But what I think I liked most about this surprisingly so was the relationship dynamics between Bryan and Max. I love when characters are complete opposites. For me, a couple with chemistry whether same sex or opposite is what a romance novel is all about.
The characters themselves were funny and quirky but that added a lot for me. I think I would have to say, I prefer the Victorian era setting rather than the more modern setting that this book takes on. But that said, it was a minor detail and well worth the read if you enjoy well written, quirky romances.
See my full review here I was pretty disappointed in this book. Yes, it has her usual witty touch, but witticism isn't a book, it's just a tone of voice. It can't cover for a lack of plot and world building. It's boring after a while. There is no connection with the characters who are barely sketches, highly stereotyped.
The only plot that's there is a thin cover for the sex. But sex scenes are boring without a connection to characters. So it's a never ending loop of failure. So at the end I found this is porn more than I was pretty disappointed in this book.

So at the end I found this is porn more than erotic romance, with a sex to story ratio that's way over the top 9: The only saving grace are the few paragraphs in defense of being different. It is different from the Parasol Protectorate. Our dear Miss Gail has done a wonderful job of indicating that with the cover and the barely-altered pen name, but I'm going to say it again. If your favorites are the Finishing School books and you don't like sex scenes, then this bundle of delight is probably not for you. That said, The Sumage Solution is touching and hilarious. While I personally prefer To start off for anyone who is wondering whether to read The Sumage Solution. While I personally prefer historical to contemporary, the distinctive and witty voice that swans through every Gail Carriger book is present here in spades, despite the era change.
My four stars here is relative, because I would rank this book higher compared to other romance, but lower compared to my all-time favorite, Heartless. Does that make sense? I love the pack dynamics we get to see, more examined than in the London pack. Bryan is my favorite little well, not so little thing, and I liked the overall tone of acceptance in the book.
Also getting to ruminate on any possible links to the Parasolverse never hurts a story, in my opinion. All in all, this was funny and entertaining, and while romance isn't really my genre, I'd definitely read another San Andreas Shifters novel. Who am I kidding? I'd read anything Carriger writes. Oh and by the way, I'd recommend reading Marine Biology first. It gives a nice insight into Alec. Jul 18, Theresa rated it really liked it. If the sex was not grayed out, this would have been 5 stars. Fairly new MM author and brand new author for me.
My reading area is MM romance so my review comes from that point of reference. The overall writing was intelligent, witty, sophisticated, and utterly charming. Sadly, the erotic portions were very disappointing. When the sexual acts became more physical, the writing became less descriptive. The cast of characters was hilarious, wacky, and lovable.
The world building was fant 3. The world building was fantastic and fun. It was nicely interwoven within the story. Max and Biff complimented each other wonderfully. Their characters were well developed and experienced huge growth. Their relationship development was great and so very sweet. Max and Biff flirted and bantered outrageously with each other. Unfortunately, their sexual chemistry did not continue into the sex scenes. It was a huge let down. The sex scenes were dull and very low intensity.
They were also repetitive across the storyline and then became boring. The quality, and not the quantity, of sex scenes was the problem. The female characters were portrayed very nicely. There were both middle age and older shifter women. They were all strong empathetic characters and played nice roles in mentoring Max and Biff. Alec, Biff's brother, was an anchor in the storyline and was pivotal to Max's character development. He was a refreshing different take on a wolf shifter pack alpha.

Aug 02, namericanwordcat rated it it was amazing Shelves: I had a grand time reading this book. Its over the top and madcap but charming, hot, and engaging. Humor is tough and for me this overblown paranormal world with a sarcastic hero and quirky non humans of all kinds really worked for me. I think because the heart of the story is the romance between Bryan, a beta wolf shifter able to be out about his sexuality for the first time, and a cranky, lanky not well functioning civil servant mage who had an awful childhood and a pretty crap romantic life un I had a grand time reading this book.
I think because the heart of the story is the romance between Bryan, a beta wolf shifter able to be out about his sexuality for the first time, and a cranky, lanky not well functioning civil servant mage who had an awful childhood and a pretty crap romantic life until Bryan. All the quirky and crazy plot around them was kept steady by the realism and the truth of this romance. It is a character driven love story set in a pretty well built and enjoyable paranormal world. Some of the world building is a bit wonky but all the characters, banter, hot sexy times, and romance make up any flaws in a big way.
I can't wait for more couples in this series and more time in this world. Contemporary San Francisco has been made over. And, while after years of reading shifter fantasy my fear is always that a storyline and its setting will feel stale and uninspired, Carriger man Contemporary San Francisco has been made over.
First off, I loved these guys. A Placer is the dirt the ladder stands on—Placers only wish they were the bottom rung. In other words, Max gets no respect, and he carries his failures with him just as his father intended him to—like psychological scars. Biff is such a love. I loved him so much. All is not sunshine and roses on their road to romance, not at all. Some good things happen too, in that these two men are so perfectly compatible not only in personality but in sense of humor, and, most significant of all, in the revelation of how they reinforce each other supernaturally.
In the end, I bought into their pairing full-stop, no questions over whether or not they belonged together or of their happy beginning was believable. They were lock and key; made for each other. Some of the character names are gold. I have Gail Carriger to thank for my deep and abiding love of all things Steampunk.

Reviewed by Lisa for The Novel Approach Jul 30, Karen Wellsbury rated it liked it Shelves: An interesting and well developed take on shifters and paranormal beings overall. The love story between Max and Bryan was lovely, the way that their insecurities and issues were sometimes discussed and sometimes used as barriers felt real. At times the snarky banter felt a little off, but mainly it was funny and added to the book.
Max's issues with his dad, and his magical development was also interesting, although not as strong for me as the romance. I usually welcome it when the author builds a An interesting and well developed take on shifters and paranormal beings overall. I usually welcome it when the author builds a world without a great deal of explanation, but I did feel that a bit more background at times would have been beneficial here, that being said I will read more of the series!
Nov 08, Ali rated it it was ok Shelves: I can't tell you how saddened I am to have not enjoyed The Sumage Solution. Well, that's not exactly true. I can tell you.
I will tell you. But, I'm not happy about it. I love Gail Carriger. For some of you who also love those three things, it will be the perfect book for you to grab. Though, it did not work for me. An East coast, newly formed, pack moves out to the Bay area in search of a new start for their members that don't really fit in to what a "normal" pack looks like.
We're talking gay werewolves, inter-species mating, atypical alpha's and beta's. You get the picture, they want a place where they will be accepted for who they are. San Francisco sounds perfect.
HvZ: All Out (M/M Gay Sports Shifter Romance Book 1)
Biff yes, you read that right is the Beta and it's his responsibility to properly register the pack with the local paranormal authorities. Biff is not an outed homosexual yet, though most of his pack, including his brother and Alpha are. Biff was once married to a woman and he's pretty tight lipped about all things, especially his own feelings. While registering, he meets Max. Max is a failed mage, also gay and they have an immediate connection. Max has some family history that weighs on his life pretty heavily. As his and Biff's relationship grows, Max's problems do as well.
I had zero problem with the world Carriger built, and no issues with the overall plot lines. So, why the two star rating? Some of the actual words used turned me off soooo much. Look, I get that these are shifters and their 'rough'. But the words spunk and jizz do nothing for me.
There were too many occasions where words such as these were used and I actually, physically, cringed. But - she pairs these words with some other quite sophisticated vocabulary if you've read some of her other titles, you know her usual style and THAT threw me off even more. We're coquettishly holding teacups after we spunk all over each other? These two have a lot of random thoughts and every time, they felt off or just a little cheeseball. I would have much rather had a written description of what they were feeling as opposed to these strange comments happening inside their minds.
It kind of gave me Fifty Shades inner goddess feels, and I was not a fan of that either. Like I said, I'm sure there is an audience out there who won't find these things irritating. I'm just not that audience. It could also be that the narrator didn't work for me It's hard to say. Books are free PDF files on his website. Have been sucked in by Special Forces…nothing else accomplished today…so good! Easy and enjoyable read. I have a new appreciation for bunny slippers. Just finished Full Disclosure by Kindle Alexander. It is a great follow-up to Double Full. Good writing, editing, and storylines. Your blog is my go to site when looking for a new read. You never let me down. Thanks for all the work you put in, its greatly appreciated.
Dangerously Happy ranks up there with Try for me. The first encounter alone at the beginning of the book took my breath away, very sexy! I recommend the sequel as well different characters. Let me know if you like any of these. Keep up the good work! I almost forgot Stay with me — omg, this writer is amazing!
The main character a surfer type, private investigator is so witty and kept me laughing throughout. The sex was well done and I was disappointed to see the author has only this one book available. The 3rd book from power exchange series is out. Just started it, pretty intense. Yakuza Pride and Yakuza Courage by H. Brues are good books with a different alpha male description as these are Japanese gangsters interacting with American males. Good stories from a different cultural perspective.
I thought the author did an amazing job. Just finished Beneath the Stain by Amy Lane. Mackey and Trav are maybe my favorite couple of all time sorry Keira and Kellen. The story gave me the same feel as the early relationship between V and Butch in BDB, really intimate. I loved, loved, loved this book. A Maxfield, this is one of my favourite books form one of of my fav authors. Dark and disturbing but addictive: Fallocaust series by Quil Carter.
Really innovative storyline that sucks you in and makes you want to forget. Books have cliffhangers and thus far no happy endings. Next book debuts on 15 November and I cannot wait. Different descriptions of characters falling in love but each book is better than their synopsis. Two books out so far. I have read many of these. A couple I have never heard of so I need to check them out. Thank you for the suggestions. I have read the first 4 a few times. You should definitely try The Captive Prince series, by C.
There are two books in the series, with a third coming out soon. Also, there are two independently published authors who are terrific: Harper Fox and Jordan Hawk. Thanks for the recommendations! Then the husband and him meet. I loved this list and made it through the whole thing. I mean not at all. I thought Tracie was crazy. But she convinced me to read the second book. Well it had me hooked! The lack of connection that I was completely feeling between the two of them was there.
It honestly was like it was written by someone else. It was perfect from all aspects — suspense, the feels, romance, tension, and love. I read the rest of the series straight through and am now anxious for the final book in March.

Just had to get that out there. I love this genre! Thanks for the recs, Maryse! I love the mm genre and have been almost entirely devoted to it for the past few years. If anyone loves amazingly well written stories with quirky humour and characters you never forget you should try Ethan Day. I swear by his books my all time favourites are Sno Ho and its sequel Life in Fusion. These books just m a me my day every time I read them. Full of adorable and unforgettable characters. Latakia and The Fence and Then the Trees are both awesome.
No steamy sex scenes but slow build with great story lines. Just discovered a new author.. They are relatively short.. Some GFY genre by T. Protection is set in s British prison. Well fleshed out characters, steamy scenes and true love story…also Something Different. Should definitely be added to this list.
Great recommendations here is mine: Jennifer, thanks for the T. Not a fan of her Nevada series. Jakes but especially the Hell or Highwater series. Kinndle Alwxander has some good ones, Always was a great full, lifetime love story. Highly recommend the Infected series by Andrea Speed. In this series being a shifter is the result of a disease. Each book in the series has mysteries to solve.
The secondary characters add great dimension to the series. First book in the series is Infected: Like honestly, the best part of reading romance is to feel both characters, the relationship itself. Feel in love with the actual characters and their dynamic and not just with the idea of finding a man like that.
All bundles have been super awesome so far. Plus lots of different types and storylines since multitude of authors. Hi Thank you so much for the list! More Heat than the Sun by John Wiltshire.
The whole series has an average rate of 4. Here is the link: There story plot and twist is fantastic! It will blow your mind. Read this please, it is worthy of your time!! It is insanely good! E Via is an awesome read for those who love cops stories. Have read Nicholas Bella New Haven series.. It will grab you. Where is Heidi Belleau?
It is an unacceptable shame that these lists continue to leave out authors like Sean Michael and B. The Rain and Whiskey series is fantastic. As is the Hammer series, the Roughstock series, and the Mannies, Inc. Just those 4 series have all the genre you can handle. The stories are full of love, and sex of course! Work that, for the right person, is well worth the effort.
Thank you for recommending them, Leslie! I will add them right now. They were certainly not left off the list on purpose. Some of my favorites that are not on the list is Beyond Complicated and the Southern scrimmage series by Mercy Celeste. They are so freaking good! I could not put Bootleg Diva down!! I definitely recommend the Captive Prince trilogy by C. There are 3 books so far, and I love all of them.
