I have loved Carol Gray and Social Stories for years and am so thankful for teachers and therapists who have helped me write stories for my son on a variety of topics. With these resource, I can definitely take it to the next level. Not only can I use the stories in the book as they are, I can also modify them for specific situations using the included CD, or I can follow the step tutorial in the beginning of the book I can't tell you how fast I jumped at the opportunity to review this book!

Not only can I use the stories in the book as they are, I can also modify them for specific situations using the included CD, or I can follow the step tutorial in the beginning of the book to write my own custom social stories. My son and I have actually read sections of it as part of our bedtime routine and have been able to refer back to them when we encounter a challenging event during the day. Just recently, he has been having more difficulty with handling games, and I was able to print out the relevant stories to be read before games are played both at school and at home.

Such an incredible tool to have at hand when it is needed! I really liked this book.

Description

We use social stories alot with Tyler. He has several little books that we make up, usually with pictures of him. He acts out different scenerios and then we put the pictures to story. It's a great way to remind him of the appropriate social options he has. The books will usually list his different options so he has more than one choice or direction he can go. It's also great for younger, normal developing children as well. It's a very visual way of teaching. Aug 19, Lana Thain rated it it was amazing. I was lent this book by a mother of a teenager with Down Syndrome, she has used social stories for various activities for years.

As a special ed teacher in training this was a really interesting and informative read, I ended up buying my own copy because there were too many pages that I wanted to photocopy! Great resource for kids with social skills issues, such as those with Autism Spectrum Disorders.

These stories are written for preschoolers aged from two to six, and the book is a useful primer for all young children - but most especially those on the autism spectrum. My Social Stories Book contains over Stories, and is illustrated throughout with line drawings by Sean McAndrew, which form a visual counterpart to the text. A helpful introduction explains to parents and carers how to get the most out of the book.

I also wrote a modified story for my typical child when he started preschool. Knowing what to expect really helped him with the transition. Anyway, this book has a variety of stories to work with.
