This book is not yet featured on Listopia. Edwards's young adult novels, I delved deep into South African history with this one expecting great things. This isn't as fast paced a thriller as I expected it to be, but that's not a bad thing. We really do get the feel of tension and a traumatic build up that explodes into a sort of 'whodunnit' at the end.

It was great, and I certainly didn't suspect who the 'killer' was.

    Walkden fire trial

    As someone who was born in the late 80's, apartheid missed me by. We were never taught about it in school and I never witnessed the events on TV. Edwards captures the sense of racism and seclusion of colour with such aplomb. I learned while I read and I found myself savouring the chapters wanting to know more about events that actually happened in history just as much as wanting to read on with Hannah in this fictional story.
