Service of the Heir: An Edinburgh Murder (Murray of Letho Book 3)
As the book opens Charles is called urgently to his fathers town house. His father dies as he arrives having been stuck down whilst meeting a notary at a construction site in the new town. As his fathers funeral is conducted a stableboy is murdered.
The proximity of an overabundance of mortality stokes Charles's inquisitive nature. His investigations uncover a number of irregularities in the affairs of his contemporaries. As is the case in the preceeding books , Charles in not an investigator per se. He is drawn in to investigation of deaths which happen at such close proximity to himself.
The story flows naturally as there is little need for unnatural contrivance or plot to cause the story to proceed. Apart from a visit to a bawdy public house in the grassmarket its all very dignified and proper. I was a little upset the Howff in question had no name as I couldnt visit the exact scene today.
