That was vaguely confusing, no? There was mention that he planned to not split the work into two different books, but that he just kept writing and writing and. So he teased out the separate POV threads and released them in separate books. There are 4 works, I believe, that will make up this series. Well book 2 elaborates on the Society. Inquisition without the n. The people who fight magic users.

This one I can say is a solo point of view work. We already knew that neither Alena nor Claire, the other main character in that book, is romantically entangled with anyone, though there is major flirtation going on between the two. I mention that part because I had had this vague idea that various couples would be starring in the first three books, then the story would advance and all the couples would come together into a story in book 4. As a plot-lead story I would rate it. At least I do not specifically recall graphic sex.

There was no romance in this story. The closest to a romance is when Viktoria remembers her time with Noah. It is difficult to read a book that includes as the main and only point of view a woman who is, at times, TSTL too stupid to live. In addition to this specific problematic issue is the part where I entered this book thinking I was going to be reading lesbian fiction. This was in no way a work of lesbian fiction.

Once I got past those two specific issues, I found the book to be enjoyable. Sometimes hard to read, literally, since Shawnee kept having massive panic attacks and be terrorized by her past. And the book ended. Shawnee Twofeather is a full-blooded native American. Her role in the hospital was odd. Who had the run of the hospital and could wander wherever she wanted, the ER, the morgue, wherever? Eh, weirdly open job, but she worked as a research assistant and handled stuff in the ER whenever she felt like it.

Throughout the majority of the book I was under the impression that Shawnee knew what the serum was for — various reasons, like words she used inside of herself — that the serum would prevent shifters to shift not exactly what the serum was actually, but something like that — only later it turns out that. She works in a hospital. She has, basically, one friend, a woman named Vanessa. Despite some rather descriptive stuff given for others in the book, all I know about Vanesa is that she has red hair — I mean all I know physically, well, her human shape.

Only friend, that is, until she runs into a woman who is bubbly and introduces herself as Xany. They meet outside their apartment building. Xany has locked herself out. Turns out — they actually live on the same floor. Xany is very nosy, and bubbly. For the most part I enjoyed the book. Watching a woman showing signs of lusting towards a man in a book that I had thought was lesbian fiction was a little hard to adjust to, but bah, whatever.

But alas, this did not turn out to be a FFF book. Eve Grant works as a homicide detective in Seattle.

Her first potential love interest is the somewhat vaguely ice queen like Ainsley Monson, the medical examiner. Another potential love interest does pop up, though, through the means of visiting that gay friendly bar that shares the same name as this book Ciara is meet there, and a tiny bit of time is spent here otherwise, but. The three woman love triangle actually, and somewhat unexpectedly, seems to flow naturally for the people involved, and the situation s encountered. Or, in other word, there are reasons for why things developed the way they developed, for how Eve ended up dating two people at the same time, who are aware of the situation and vaguely accepting of it.

On the fire side is Ciara. Ainsley has elements of being closed off emotionally, being something of an ice queen; while Ciara, with her flaming red hair, and ability to openly express her wants and desires would fall inside. Fire seems to imply someone who becomes enraged easily or something like that, which is not Ciara. Or someone controlled by their emotions, again not her. I need a new motif.

Like the first scene she meets the other main character, she's just been attacked by a moose, her car is totaled, she's in the middle of no-where in too thin clothing and heels, and her first thought on seeing her rescuer? Well the character in this book is something of a fourth type. Kennedy Wells has spent her life going from one party to another, drinking, partying, sleeping around, and getting paid to do it. She works as a celebrity journalist. Her life was tossed off-course, though; when one of her flings with a random woman, her interview subject, lead to a lawsuit. So she was moved off the high flying celebrity circuit and wants back on. Help by writing a feature article, not help in person with Travis. Travis makes no appearance in this book other than via one or two emails.

The feature article involves interviewing a jerk asshole reality star type person who has a fishing show. And she has to leave immediately. All mentioned because she heads off with barely adequate clothing and without even reserving a room. Which is where I get back to reminding people that the main character is a high-maintance high femme princess type — who, upon arrival in Alaska, proceeds to disdain the offer of an SUV, takes instead a luxury sedan, then drives around in high heels somewhat randomly.

This reminds me of my initial problems with this book. Got distracted by tropes. So, Kennedy, the main and only point of view character, heads off to Alaska to write some articles. I really hope Kennedy is supposed to be seen, how to word this, as a not tremendously likable person. Four things I wish to note before wandering off and doing whatever else: As in, every bloody person meet is described as being super thin.

I know it was 17 years prior because the lead and solo point of view was ten when the ship crashed and is 27 now.

Which is how Ava and Gwen ended up in a fake relationship to show stability or whatever it was they were trying to show.

This was a rather neat, much more interesting, deeper, more exciting book than I had expected or thought it would be after the opening parts. At least one scene if I recall correctly, just one scene — if that kind of thing matters to review readers. Actual flying around, doing superhero type stuff. Oberon, Orlaith, and Starbuck are off via train to Portland with the human Atticus when they spot a particular squirrel. All of this is important, of course, because squirrels are evil and must be watched. Whose there investigating a murder. As if they might be twins — yet Atticus has none.

Well, naturally, Atticus and the dogs investigate. The story was quite entertaining and fun. Though Oberon seems to play less of an investigative role in this one, at least as far as I recall from reading the first in this series. So, from my perspective, you can have a great time reading this book as long as you read the first in the Oberon series, and perhaps, not a requirement, the first book in the Iron Druid series. I think most people have read this, not really but let's pretend, so I'll not work too hard on a review.
