Strength based lean talks and explains about appreciative inquiry within the lean context. I am a practitioner myself and can recommend this book to be clear and engaging. David shaked explains in simple words the essential elements of strength based and of lean six sigma. I would assume , as David states himself , that the book is for people interested in the topic while having already some exposure to the two topics appreciative inquiry and lean six sigma. Having said that, i can recommend the book to anybody who wants to learn and seeks mastery.

David Shaked provides an abundance of valuable information, insights, and counsel that will help almost anyone build positive and engaging business improvement. They then define ways to grow and expand those parts and implement good practices elsewhere. This focus on the search for and growth of existing efficiency enables new ideas to emerge and supports implementation of process improvements by raising confidence and energy levels.

The deficit focus of traditional Lean tends to weaken the system -- even when it is successful -- because it instills doubt and despair by giving unbalanced attention to waste and by amplifying inefficiencies. It enables an organization whatever its size and nature may be to leverage what is effective and efficient when competing for sales and profits as well as talent in its marketplace.

Organizations as well as individuals thrive when in what Mihaly Csikszentmihalyi characterizes as "flow": Obviously, flow is not a permanent state. However, strengths-based Lean Six Sigma is the approach most likely to help it occur, and, most likely to increase frequency and duration. These are among the dozens of business subjects and issues of special interest and value to me, also listed to indicate the scope of Shaked's coverage.

He shares some ways to apply this thinking at different levels of the organization and improvement initiatives. In short this book approaches improvement from the value added side of the equation instead of the waste elimination side.

I am not sure you can do one without the other however the positive value added approach is powerful. At pages it is a pretty easy read. There are a number of case studies to reinforce concepts. Each chapter ends with a summary of learning.
