Unfortunately I found the plot lacked direction or any real depth, the characters needed development both in their backgrounds and personalities, and I found them all as a whole pretty unlikeable. Unmoving, but breakable just from his glare. Not one second did I sleep. Sometimes I even wondered if he was awake too.
I bite my lip as I almost see him think. Hunters eyes meet mine.

As he leaves, I almost choke on the huge amount of food in my mouth. As you can see I went a little highlighting crazy, and this is just a portion of what I covered in the part that I read. As this is only my opinion, I am sure there will be plenty of others that will love it. I have only ever associated this word with pregnancy before View all 29 comments. Who doesn't love a sexy, ripped cover and the hint of a fighter in the story? Well, sorry- but all I got from this book was the sexy hot cover. The book which I set down multiple times and almost DNF it so many times. In fact, I gave up and then finally decided to plow through and I gave it the old Hunter Bane try and finished it. I wanted Hunter Bane to be amazing and wonderful and all alpha male. But instead he was a crying baby, who took drugs, and got into fights This book was pure cover lust.
But instead he was a crying baby, who took drugs, and got into fights because is illegal frat told him to. That didn't sound like a strong fighter, that to me was a fool who can't think for himself and is so not the anti-hero. But, add on top of that Leafy, aka Autumn- who is the stereotypical nerd virgin who is madly in love with Hunter and wants forever. She was just so stupid in what she did, i. Who does that when they are supposedly so intelligent? I rolled my eyes so much ready this book I gave myself a migraine.
Nothing in this book worked for me, the story was choppy and made no sense. The plot and the reveal also was anti-climatic. Just nothing worked for me. Jan 21, Michelle rated it did not like it. Autumn is heading off to college looking for a new experience from the years spent being the geek in high school. I was looking forward to this particular story based on the cover which I absolutely loved and the blurb looked appealing.

But that is pretty much where it stopped. Being freshmen in college, I expected some immaturity but the behavior of how they Autumn and Evie reacted to situations around them just seemed as if they were more like freshmen in high school and completely sheltered. The plot overall had potential. But the story was just not deep enough to get sucked into what was going on.
As an example, Autumn sees Hunter once, has a short conversation with him at her dorm, sits next to him in class and finds him in the hallway and they have conversation with a handful of words. But for me, this just was missing the mark. There are a lot of reviews out there that are giving this one high ratings, so please remember we all read our own book and come away with our own opinions. View all 6 comments. After all the cover is amazing and the characters were right for the type of reads I enjoy.
Autumn was more than just the shy girl who was unsure of herself, she was actually a self described nerd, wore glasses and had few friends. Enter Hunter who is your typical hot muscled bad boy. I never really got why he fell for Autumn, or his Leafy as he calls her. Honestly, not understanding the attraction, was only one problem for 3 "I so was hoping for more" stars I started this book with high hopes.
Honestly, not understanding the attraction, was only one problem for me with this book. There was so much crazy going on that I never could really believe half the things that were taking place. I just became a little too much. Unfortunately, I never got connected to the characters either.
Hunter had the most potential with his background of learning disability, poor and broken family, but other times I found him to be a complete jerk. I did not find him to be swoon worthy based on character, based on his body and looks, sure but that was it. I don't know, perhaps I am being too critical, but I just didn't feel it and at some points I was ready to just start skimming.
As a fighter-fix junkie, this one just didn't knock me out. Jan 11, Kellie Maddox-Ward rated it liked it Shelves: I don't know how to say this, I liked this book. I just liked it. I almost DNF at one stage. Autumn is your run of the mill nerd. Spends all her time studying trying to be the best she can be for her parents, and missing out on life because of it.
Hunter is your typical bad boy. Autumn really is a lame nerd. The part that sells drugs. The rest of it is just a cover up and he was a bit of a normal guy. The huge reveal as to Hunters past? Really not all that huge and kinda left me with an anti-climax face. Just didn't work for me.
Your Fierce Love (The Bennett Family, #7) by Layla Hagen
The characters could of used a bit more character depth. Autumn could of had more of a backbone So yeah just an average read for me, I was expecting more but it just didn't quite hit the mark. View all 7 comments. Guys, I have to be honest. So basically, in a nutshell: View all 4 comments. Tthis book had an interesting premise. Hero isn't the ultimate can do no wrong bad boy and that's unusual for this genre. Heroine had potencial as did the story in general.
At pages, this could have gone so different as the author had the outline for a good book. However, the character development was weak. Background and set up was almost non existent. Various subplots weren't utilized to benefit the story and s My review: Various subplots weren't utilized to benefit the story and scenes fizzled before revealing.
A majority of the secondary character we saw where nothing more then fodder. The dialogue, especially Autumn, was bi polar. She was the innocent Mary Sue one minute then cussed like a sailor the next. Adjectives were abused and repeating. So, I'm going to give it 2 stars as it entertained enough to get me to finish it. View all 5 comments. I am one of those people that just reads for fun. I a lot of the time enjoy books that NONE of my friends do and just allow the story to envelop me as a whole. Then there came Fierce, which turned me into a ragey beast woman, who actually questioned the whole of the publishing world for a moment.
Now, I'm not anti-self publishing. I'm very PRO self publishing and read loads of self published authors and support, share, wrap them up in my own personal fangirl blanket and nourish them. I even question if they hired editors, because no WAY editor would let slide, the type of stuff that was in this book. I was going to read this whole book.
Honestly, if I'm gonna rage, I want the full encompassing reason to rage. I just could not waste another second on a book that was so poorly constructed. Some may call this a 'bully review' Ok, I'll let you have my bully review and I'll raise you head hopping, poorly constructed characters, and internal dialogue that sounded like I read reading Dr. You can go ahead and say I'm being mean. That's fantastic for you that you loved this book.
I thought I would too, the little teaser images were very misleading. As was the blurb. You get this big impression that this is a story about the a-typical virgin and this awesomely alpha cage fighter. Most of the characters are stupid. They are made even more stupid when their inner dialogue sounds like "No I do not like green eggs and ham, I do not like them sam I am.
I don't really care about the reason. I don't care at all that they don't want to sit next to me. I like being on my own. Enough friends for me. Does she have bad breath? Does she has some sort of deformity that is repelling people? People just don't, not want to sit next to you, most people don't care! You sure you want to use this word? I don't move one muscles. I want to help them. I want to give back to them. You want to give back to them. You've read Harry Potter? God, it's been ages since I last saw that book. What are we doing here. I was close to done at this point anyways. So, those are a FEW of my examples.
However, the author likes to post on kindle boards were are all lying meanies and she didn't write these things. So I made sure to include the percent and the location on my kindle. Not by a long shot. So, like I said we got lied to in all these fantastical teasers. This highly marketed Alpha Male? Grunting does not an alpha male make. Like meat head worst kind of male dumb. Then we have Autumn. This self professed virgin and geek. Well, she doesn't act like a geek.
She just acts like a doormat that allows her, lesbian? BFF to control every other friendship she has other than her own, so she can keep Autumn in her little bubble so she can secret lust after her? This storyline is there, just really really poorly done. The storyline is just that though. You have no effing clue what is going on The characters act one way one page then totally different the other.
None of the secondary characters are even likable for you to give a crap about them. Then the BFF is running off with this chick randomly and leaving Autumn alone then yelling at her when she finds out Autumn was with Hunter. Excuse me, I need to bang my head against the wall. Ok, I'm done, if I missed anything, I'm sure another reviewer will pick it up.
It has been awhile since I read this and to be honest, I'm shocked I remembered as much as I did. I think my anger kept it fresh in my brain. View all 27 comments. What a fresh take on the MMA. From the first page to the last I just ate this book up. I like that more authors are writing very strong female character lately and Tori Rhoads is certainly that. When she loses her job as a waitress after defending herself and another w What a fresh take on the MMA. When she loses her job as a waitress after defending herself and another waitress, to make ends meat for rent and college she ends up taking a job back in a gym that so happens to be the one where she was trained before which is run by her uncle and where the cute librarian, Max Estrada, she met on campus also happens to be in training.
All the training and fights scenes are written in such detail you can actually visualize every move as its being made. It had a great secondary cast of characters from the good to the bad. Received an ARC for an honest review "I took the road less travelled by. I have never read a material like thisa woman getting on her fists and is the star of the book that usually has hot, alpha males getting into MMA action.
LG Kelso's venture into the contemporary world will surely pay off. Raw and intense in small details. The author knows her theme. She knows where to punch the readers with sensitive issues and she knows whe Received an ARC for an honest review "I took the road less travelled by. She knows where to punch the readers with sensitive issues and she knows when to tap and put the idea that she wants to convey. I can be bold enough to say that I get her. Fierce showed the courage behind Tori's fright.
She is an imperfect woman who failed in her past but is definitely triumphing in her present. Having Max by her side, she knew that she had to fight and never cave in to her fears again. I have digested her words, deep and solid. This is not only a book for commercial use or for entertainment. Fierce talks about abuse, getting out of it and helping other people out.
Abusers do not have a place in this world. May Tori's silence, in almost half of the book, teach us never to be. May readers not only admire Tori's braveness towards the ending but may apply, not only to themselves but to others as well, the importance of fighting; of fighting not alone but with our friends' hands too. What a strong character to over come all that she did. Max was a really great guy and the overall story and characters had great depth.
A definite story you wont be disappointed with. I need to see if Shane got his story. If not, this is a book perfect on it's own, but begging for a series. I really enjoyed this book. I was going through all the list for female fighters and yours was exactly what I was looking for.
I went through lots of list! Thank you for all your hard work. Where do I even begin with this book? It was refreshing, realistic, heartfelt and powerful. The characters were so well written and brought to life off the pages of this book. The storyline was believable and I stayed up till the wee morning hours to finish this book! For a debut novel, this was fantastic and I cannot wait to see what LG Kelso has in store for us in the future!
Tori was such a strong female lead. Her determination was inspirational. When life was horrible to her, she tried to re-evaluate and see what else she could accomplish in life. Yet with all true dreams and passions, you cannot help but come full circle to what you were meant to do. In this case, she was meant to be a fighter, a leader of women in the MMA, a role that she played so well.
Max is definitely book boyfriend material! It was refreshing to read about a fighter who has a sweet and compassionate side. Max had a great balance of all the qualities, without becoming an alpha male determined to conquer. Then we have Will. He is such a well written villain. I found myself so angry at him and his lies.
I just wanted to slap him across the face and wipe his smug smile off. The other secondary characters were great! Leah was a great friend and roommate for Tori. You can have a great set of characters but it is the plot that brings them to life and allows them to thrive. LG Kelso accomplished that so well. When the story opens, Tori is working at a diner and subsequently fired for defending herself and co-worker from a grabby drunk patron.
As a result she encounters a bit of trouble on the way home. Max, a patron of the diner, comes to her rescue and delivers her home safely, both assuming that their paths will most likely not cross again. Tori finds another job, but lo and behold, it is working the front desk at her old gym, the same one that contains her memories of trauma and heartache.
Desperate for an income, she takes the job, planning to leave as soon as she finds something more suitable to the life she feels she must lead, yet she is sucked in to her beloved MMA world. I loved watching her path to self-discovery. The way she was able to rekindle her dreams and overcome her demons was powerful.
The easy way out would be to work in the business world like she was planning, yet she is a fighter, both literally and figuratively. She was determined to allow her fighting community to sharpen her but not rely on them. At times I found her independence and silence about her past from the other fighters a bit frustrating but in retrospect it makes sense why she did it. It was a true character point. I love that she was a strong woman who could handle the world around her.
Her relationship with Max was on a level playing field and that fact alone was so wonderful to see. In a world of characters and storylines with needy situations and dependent personalities, this book was refreshing. They both had issues and scars, but they were strong enough to rise above in their own way.
I could go on and on but you should just read this book! An incredible debut novel. I would have to say that LG Kelso is now on my one-click list! The old me and my old dreams were fermented in the bloodstains, and as I had feared, the good memories had been overwhelmed by only the bad, and those nightmares still haunted this space. Kelso is a story of struggle, of trying to face the fears that one has from a failure and rise above them in order to succeed in what matters the most, happiness.
Tori is a female MMA fighter, who had one bad fight where she was severely injured and promised her parents that she would walk away f The old me and my old dreams were fermented in the bloodstains, and as I had feared, the good memories had been overwhelmed by only the bad, and those nightmares still haunted this space. Tori is a female MMA fighter, who had one bad fight where she was severely injured and promised her parents that she would walk away from the one passion that she had and take the safe road in both college and love.
Tori spends her days working at a diner, until she is fired that is, and going to school for business, something that seems to bore her. Until one night when a drunk customer gets to handsy and Tori defends herself and her co-worker by punching the guy out, causing her boss to let her go.
The search for a new job in order to pay the bills leads her to her old MMA gym, the one that her Uncle Jeff owns and that is when her struggle of whether or not to return to the life of a MMA fighter truly begins. Max is a sexy but mysterious customer at the diner, who comes in for pie, sometimes with a book, sometimes without but always with a friendly disposition.
Although Tori has some steamy thoughts about the hottie, she knows she will never see him again when she is fired, that is until she takes the secretarial job at her uncle's gym, where he trains. She also discovers that Max is a librarian at her school, something she believes is a contradiction to his MMA fighting personality. Tori begins training with the fighters at her Uncle's gym regularly but refuses to get into the ring, and especially alone because she is unable to shake the fear that her former friend Will, also a renowned MMA fighter put in her head, later causing her to freeze and lose her last injury induced fight.
Max continually tries to break through the tough exterior that Tori puts up, but she refuses to let him in on her deepest secret, what Will did to her, that is until she breaks down and commits to her first fight since she tore her ACL, and Will returns to her gym when Jeff unexpectedly leaves for a family emergency. With the guys at the gym rallying around her, confident that she can take the fight, Tori works hard to train but with Will in the gym, making offhanded comments and his trainer, who is anti-woman in MMA, it seems that Tori faces her fears even more now then she did before.
Trying to shut out Will's attempts to rattle her, Tori focuses as much as she can, but without truly letting go of the past she will never truly be able to move on. While Max and Tori become closer and closer, working toward a relationship or so the reader continues to hope , the fight also looms on the horizon. The title fight between Max and Will, a fight that scares Tori is the same night as her return to the ring. It is there where the drama begins and with each page turned, I wondered if she would be able to over-come her fears, if she would be able to stand up to Will and if she would be able to return to her true passion in life.
And I was far from disappointed. Although the end of the book was not gift-wrapped, it was a happy ending all the same and I would highly recommend this book to others, it was a 3. The fact that it was not your typical MMA fighter book drew me in and keep me intrigued until the very last sentence. This story sounds amazing. However, that was the only difference between this story and others. Drama that arises and causes a rift between teammates, when it all could have been avoided by talking to each other.
I was really hoping for something different with this one. I wanted a story of a female MMA fighter. Maybe one that struggles with the sexism of female fighters, but who is a strong role-model. However, that person was not Tori. I didn't like that her first response to everything under the sun was to use her fist or elbow on someone. My husband is in the military, granted he has not done cage fighting for money, he has gone to war and fought for our freedom.
He was also a martial arts instructor where he taught different levels to the other soldiers. His first response to a situation however, is never violence. Connection made every which way without question. I wasn't sure anyone could come close to J in this series, but Scott was such a great guy.
He tells you exactly what he feels and expects and admires the exact same from everyone else. He's completely loyal to those who he loves but requires honesty in return. Scott never planned on falling for anyone, but when he meets Harlow, she leaves him wanting to know more.
Every encounter with each other draws them closer together. Harlow's been hurt before by love, but soon realizes that she had no choice but to fall for Scott. But being around him, draws the attention of an enemy of Scott's MC club. But Scott will do anything to keep her safe. This book read very smoothly. Plus, we get to see more of Madison and J. Can't wait for the next book in this series which I think is a novella about Madison and J.
Love Scott and Harlow! I just finished this book and have some many amazing things to. Scott and Harlow are amazing together and my favorite couple so far! I love how they complement each other so well. I knew it would take a strong woman who take charge to tame Scott and I was so right. Harlow is a country girl at heart but she has had a lot of hurt in the past.
It has made her stronger and more determined to get things done. She's busy helping her mom and moving on from a horrible break up. She never expected to feel the butterflies and the constant state of horniness not sure I spelled it right but you get what I'm saying when she met Scott. Scott, is immediately taken by Harlow. He tries everything he can including buying a fridge for her mom to win her over. They eventually cave in and have amazing smoking hot sex together!!! Their first time was super hot!! I love how well they work together and how laid back Harlow is with all the biker business.
This by far is my favorite book of the series! On to the next book!
Fierce Love
This was not a bad book, it just did not knock my socks off. Scott and Harlow were likable and the writing was good. I think you need to read the first book to figure out what was going on with the MC club, it was a bit confusing.
