Logan writes in such a friendly way, that I never had to turn back any pages to reread anything. I was able to follow the story very easily to the end. As I read the story I felt contented and peaceful, always wanting to know what was going to happen next. I was overcome with sadness, humour, and disbelief amongst other emotions while reading the book, but what I really enjoyed about it more than anything else, is that time travel is included in the story, which makes it a part of the science fiction family. I thought that most of the main characters in the book all seemed to be leading their own separate lives, but how very wrong I was.

Logan was brilliant in the way he connected up each character in the book, all of whom have a connection with Goose. Very often I would raise my eye-brows and gasp at how another character was connected to the others, which I never saw coming. Goose is not only the centre of the whole story all the way through, but also the centre of the circle of life which connects the main characters.

There is not much I disliked about the book. Some of the minor characters did not have any impact on the story at all and could have been left out, but that did not spoil the enjoyment of the book and its story for me at all. This most certainly is a book to read on the run up to Christmas. Although the book is aimed at young adults, I think anybody reading it would have a thoroughly good read. I was so pleased after reading the book to hear that the book has been made into a movie, one I certainly will look forward to seeing.

Dec 11, Big Book Little Book rated it it was amazing. I'm going to be honest. I picked up this book in the shop as I had been asked to review a children's 'Christmas themed' book. I had never heard of this book or of the author but I'm a sucker for 'topical' reads just to see what all the fuss is about. This book drew me in, as had the headline, 'Now a major film starring Eddie Izzard' and thanks to the rather obvious title, was a quick win to meet the task at hand.

So, it was fair to say that I started reading this book feeling a bit 'meh' as it is I'm going to be honest. So, it was fair to say that I started reading this book feeling a bit 'meh' as it isn't something that I would have chosen with no agenda. But thank goodness I did! By the end of the first chapter I had to bite back tears and actually stopped reading to think how I would have reacted as a mother in the same situation.

Towards the end of the book I was a goner, my heartstrings well and truly yanked. To balance the sadness there's more than a little magic, intrigue over 'Anthony's' true identity and humour for his quirky personality and his tourettes like ability to share random facts. Did you know that Walt Disney was scared of mice for instance? So what's it all about? Well the story focuses around a young boy nicknamed Goose whom, on Christmas Eve, inadvertently sets off a chain of events that creates misery and loss for a number of people, whilst making him an orphan in the process.

His grandmother, already experiencing the early stages of Alzheimer's dementia is left to look after him. One year on and he is withdrawn, isolated and is under probation for thieving whilst his grandmother's health continues to deteriorate. If his life couldn't get more bleak already, he then loses his beloved dog Mutt. Desperate to find his dog, he relies on a rather odd stranger Anthony - well at least he thinks his name is Anthony as that's what the badge says on his jacket! As the book was based on the screenplay, I can understand why the film has a perfect rating and I will definitely be watching, albeit with a box of tissues and comfort eating chocs to hand!

If you want to laugh, cry and root for characters to get their happy ending then this book is for you. Young and old independent readers alike. Jul 03, Holly rated it really liked it. Goose's parents both die in a car crash on Christmas eve, and in the following year his life has gone from happy and carefree, to casual criminal and a destroyed childhood.

The only good things left in his life are his Nan and his dog. His Nan has Alzheimer's, and he's just lost his dog. Then this somewhat magical weirdo appears and turns things upside down. The first thing that stuck out was on the first page - "His all-over-the-place hair was all over the place".

It's childlike and weird, and it totally sets the tone for the rest of the book. It is written with a childlike quality that I really loved. The next thing that stuck out was that I guessed the ending literally the second it was possible to do so. That said, I wasn't disappointed to discover I knew the ending, and really enjoyed reading it. The story is entertaining, the writing is funny, and the plot is quite clever, if a little cliche. It's just a nice, easy read.

Lost Christmas () - Rotten Tomatoes

I can't abide Christmas books - which is probably why I liked this one. If it wasn't for a title and the occasional mention it could be just winter or any other cold place that also happened to be called Manchester. I recommend this one to anybody who likes a good story with a very casual writing style. I found it an incredibly moving and very beautiful film, so I was excited to see that one of the writers, David Logan, has adapted it into a novel.

Has Christmas lost its true meaning?

He runs downstairs to find his parents unsuccessfully trying to hide a mongrel puppy. Goose is full of plans to play with him, but then his firefighter dad receives a call and has to go to work. Disappointed, Goose hides his car keys. Of course, that doesn't stop his father from going to work; instead his mum gives him a lift in her car. Goose's spur-of-the-moment act means that he loses both parents in a car crash. A year later he is living with his grandmother, who is in the early stages of dementia.

He still has Mutt, his dog, but he has lost everything else, including his ability to feel. He is also involved in crime, stealing and handing over the objects to his dad's former best friend, Frank, whose wife left him when Frank's grief led him to drink heavily. Then after a heavy night in a pub, Frank meets a strange man, Anthony. Anthony seems to have lost his memory. However, he seems to have a strange power, to "read" people and know their secret- and not so secret- losses. As Goose and Frank become more involved with Anthony, he helps them to make amends and return lost things to their owners.

This book deserves to become a Christmas classic. I am a huge fan of Eddie Izzard and Christmas so could not wait for the film, it was a great twist on a Christmas story and not a storyline I had seen before. After loving the film I did a bit of research and found that it was originally a book by David Logan.

I saw the book a couple of weeks ago in Asda and could not resist it being the Christmas season and all. I can highly recommend this book to the Christmas lovers out there who love a tale of adversity during the Christmas period. David captures each character and you feel after each chapter that you know these people and they could be someone close to you. The characters are deep and multi faceted. The story is seamless and entwined all these unlikely characters together in a fabulous Lyon intertwined tale of loss, woe and hope.

I found this book so addictive needing to know what happened to each character and not feeling disappointed. Ultimately this story centred on a child trying to hold it together through it all and finding an unlikely friend in very strange man that shows up in Manchester with no memory of who he was: Give it a go it will make your Christmas! Although I somehow managed to miss the film when it was originally shown I was persuaded to read this book by a lovely review I read and I am so very glad I discovered "Lost Christmas". This is a wonderful story and a perfect Christmas read for teens and maybe those a little younger.

In all honesty I think it is a perfect Christmas read full stop. Although heartbreakingly sad in places it is one of those stories that you feel better for having read. Goose, the main character, around whom the story revolves, is a troubled boy following the death of his parents in a car crash on Christmas Eve. As the first anniversary of their deaths approaches Goose's life is unravelling and he is in danger of going seriously off the rails. Then he meets the mysterious 'Anthony' whom Goose finds himself drawn to, despite his strange manner and peculiar habit of littering every conversation with random facts.

Can this stranger help Goose, his desperate Uncle Frank and his confused Nan to find some happiness in their lives? There is sadness, adventure, magic and love all wrapped up in this book and I couldn't put it down because I cared about the characters and wanted very much to know what would happen to them all. As a reader I was willing these people on to a happy ending.

An emotional read but a very, very satisfying one.
