The Mistress Mistake
Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. This was one of those books lacking development of any kind, really, but fortunately for me, it seemed to be exactly what I was looking for. The hero was an over the top alpha bordering that line called "too-controlling-it's-abusive. His thoughts about just needing a warm female body on hand, were just a tad bit cringe-worthy. And the first part of the story where he uses the heroine just like a warm female body, evoked the same feelings.
BUT, there were just some things I really liked about this story: The anticipation at the beginning was done so well I felt like I was the one selling my body on the internet. I can absolutely see how this is not for everyone. This hero is crazy possessive. Slightly on the psycho controlling train. The whole mistress arrangement is a no-no to some, and I would've never picked it up if it weren't recommended to me. Not because of the mistress thing, but because I hate the "I'll put you up in a house, come have sex with you, you need to be clean, clean bill of health, and then sex we can make" trope.
I have no idea why that came out in a Godfather's accent, but I'm rolling with it. That whole idea is lackluster and doesn't leave many opportunities for tension. It's like going and paying for bananas at the store But The Mistress Mistake actually kept the conflict going, and I didn't find myself bored at all.

The ending seemed to tank a bit, but that's because you were taking a controlling, rude alpha and making him say tender endearments while cooing his love. But I guess I'll take as much awful hero as I can get before it gets mushy.

So while this book wasn't an explementary written piece of work, and the story was short of development, it still seemed to captivate me in anticipation. I'll definitely be going to check out this author's other works. One person found this helpful. But I always come back to this book. I found myself in a dilemma last night Nothing I've downloaded recently appealed to me. I started three books and gave up, then flipped to The Mistress Mistake. I have done this so many times it's unreal. I have no idea why when I feel material is slim pickings I grab on to this book and devour it.
I don't stop reading from page one to the end I know that for some reason I'm drawn to this couple. I have a strong suspicion that it's because as down and out, broken, alone, and vulnerable this heroine is, she is strong. She tells him how she feels. She rocks his world and in doing so gives us a female lead that actually makes you root and feel good for the couple. That's so rare for me as I read book after book where the female leads turn me off so bad I'm actually hoping for a different outcome, like the hero finding someone better.
