Ultra Black Hair Growth II 2000 Edition
I buy as gifts for my female friends. I am following her techniques, it works But that is your final decision to use it. I did try her products, I liked them. But I am going all naural and organic and her products does not have safe ingredients in them. NOw there is one thing Cathy never addressed.

The type of combs that we use on our hair. The combs we buy tear your hair out. You do take the test. I stopped using these cheap combs sold in all these beauty stores and drug stores, including wal mart. You have to pay for a little more money for seamless combs, but it is worth it for your hair, if you are trying to keep it and not loose it. Dont contribute to damgeing your hair. Search the internet if you cant find one locally. I use the Ox Horn comb, you can get on the internet and ebay.

All shapes and sizes and widths. This book would get an Oscar, if she educated us on the Comb.!. I was skeptical of this book and bought it with a friend. The first 60 pages are all about not cutting the hair. I really didn't need 60 pages to get the message because I was convinced at page But the last pages are really worth reading and then re-reading. So then, I was skeptical about the products that she suggested.
Its her own haircare line and she stands to make some money, so I was determined never to visit ubhpublications. At the website she answers sooooo many questions!!
Ultra Black Hair Growth II 2000 Edition
I felt like she had written a sequel "Dear Abby" style and addressed to me, to you, my mom, sister, gramdma and to my girlfriends. I am proud of the growth spurt my hair has made in the last 4 years all pre-book. I have chemically-treated, permanently-colored, fine-textured, African-American hair. It reaches my shoulders but I want more. There were some things I was doing right. Like washing it in the shower twice a week.

Rinsing thoroughly before shampooing and only lathering once. I was alternating moisturizing conditioner with protein conditioner. I was moisturizing my hair daily with special attention to the edges. I was air drying and occasionally using my hooded dryer. I never blow dry and use my curling iron so seldom it has collected dust. But I was also doing some stuff waaaay wrong! I love to use a rat-tail wide-toothed because I can feel each hair as it breaks. The comb never has any hair in it, because I'm sooo gentle.
BUT put a brush in my hand, and I don't feel a thing!
Reviews, Writing Tips, and Commentary
Unfortunately, the brush was always Full of hair and my edges were always gone. Never long enough to pinch hold! I never put the two together until this book. I like the summaries and key points at the end of each chapter. I liked the information on moisturizers, conditioners and shampoos.
She kept mentioning and reiterating what her research had shown, but there was no back up, in fact it felt at times like those statements came out of nowhere and were not substantiated.

There is no research for a reader to read and see why she came to the conclusions she came too and yet she keeps mentioning "the research" through out the whole book. This was a nice short read, I am going to take her point and use them as a basis to get more concrete information and hopeful build a regimen for myself. I do agree that this book is a common sense approach to treating black hair. For people absolutely new to caring for afro hair, this would be wonderful information. However, because I have been on my hair care journey, I feel that there is nothing in this book that I havent heard or learnt outside. But it is a good book to remind you the bais of how to look after black hair.
She talks about the importance of washing and conditioning, moisturing daily, and the effects of relaxing your hair. Overa I do agree that this book is a common sense approach to treating black hair. Overall a very entertaining read.

Nov 11, Cynthia Eversole added it. Excellent advice about the daily care, growth, and maintenance of the specifically African American z-or s-patterned hair strands and their overall health and growth secrets! Every Black woman should read this book for best results!! UBH website sells special products and further reading material. My hair has literally grown 10 inches in 3 years. Desperate lack of knowledge in this field even among beauticians!! Jan 14, Adrienna rated it liked it. I am not sure if I believe in not brushing your hair as she suggests in her book to have long hair, but the other ideas such as going natural is fine Aug 19, Jessie Ann rated it it was ok.
