It takes place in two time periods often ignored in romance writing. I loved both the heroine and hero and the mystery of how they would manage to stay together kept me reading eagerly.

The solution, however, was extremely disappointing and soured the rest of the book for me. It is rushed, poorly explained and completely out of left field. A moment's thought and you realize they now have more problems then they started with. Saying more would spoil it, I'm afraid. If you're a reader who needs a solid, cohesive finale then you may want to skip this.
One person found this helpful. This started out so well! Unfortunately, the end did not live up to my expectations. In fact, it felt like the author had a looming deadline and slapped a lame, formulaic resolution on it and called it good.
Warm Laura Dearborn, living in the year , sees spirits. And, as a medium, she makes her living by helping the living find closure with their loved ones. Laura, who was a nurse during the Great War, has seen too much. Been changed irreversibly by the war and its aftermath. And if she can use her gift to help others find comfort, let them know those they've lost are at peace, she's willing to open her home to complete strangers.
That is, until a solicitor shows up after hours, claiming Stonecross Manor, the house that has haunted her dreams her entire life, was willed to her--before her birth--by some man from the nineteenth century.
Along with a sizeable amount of money. Bewildered but ultimately intrigued, Laura can't resist going to Stonecross Manor. And what she finds there, besides an extremely dilapidated and long neglected house, is Alaric Storm the Third. Alaric, living in the year , is also a product of war time.
His body covered in scars and a leg that's somewhat lame, Alaric came back from the Crimea changed. He has become reserved and withdrawn and has no desire to socialize or join the bon ton. I loved the way that Miz Kelly has written this short story. Her descriptions of the times and places, the way that Laura travels between her time and Alaric's, it made my imagination run wild. Her tone and wording gave the story an almost dreamy quality that fit so well. And the paranormal aspect, the time traveling, I actually like that the how and why of it is never fully explained. It kept the focus on Laura and Alaric and their struggle to remain with each other--in his time or in hers.
Midnight in Your Arms is whimsical and enchanting. A truly delightful love story that involves ghosts and fate and a romance that knows no time. And, oh, how I love the auburn haired heroes. The Alaric I envisioned in my mind I hope Miz Kelly plans to write more romances like this one!

Don't expect some coquettish miss who you must mollycoddle and convince to let ravish her. I'm a woman, with a woman's desires. His amber eyes were gleaming in the half dark like polished pennies. I love the idea of going back in time to find your one true love. Isn't that a common theme in time-travel romances? I was thrown off a bit by the fact that this started off post WWII, not modern day, as I was expecting. That was an obstacle of my own making, and had nothing to do with the story itself, but did confuse me as I was trying to start reading!
What made it even more difficult to want to finish reading was the style in which the first portion of the book was written. It was a narrative-style and didn't inlcude much dialogue. I found this intensely difficult to read and even more so, repetitive, trite, and a bit preachy. The only thing that kept me reading was the desire to see if anything changed once Laura and Alaric met.
Happily, that was the key! Once the hero and heroine met, there were more opportunities for dialogue, and the story became much easier to read, and the "flow" much better. There are multiple sexual encounters between them. There is no reserved, coquettish play. In fact, it reads much as modern encounters might. That leads one to forget that the entire interaction at the house takes place over the span of mere days. The switching between time periods is not a confusing as it could be.
It is always nice when a reader is able to say for certain where and when their hero and heroine are existing! I did find myself fixating on some of the issues surrounding time travel and what the resolution to the story would be. I will state now, that my thoughts were completely incorrect and each possibility was systematically eliminated as I continued to read. Having said that - I was not entirely satisfied by the ending as presented. In November, Midnight In Your Arms will be released in paperback, and I will also be celebrating by giving copies away to my adored readers, so please visit me on this blog, Facebook , Twitter , and Goodreads for details on how to win!
What else will I be giving away? I was thinking I would give away some little luxuries that, for me, always make the dreary stretch of time between Halloween and Christmas just a little more glamourous and luxuriant. Little things that go hand in hand with romance!

What do you think? Will you be submitting? I wish all of you the very best with your submissions, and I hope you win! The air has turned fresh and crisp, and smells of smoke and dying wood. The leaves crunch under my wellies when I take my dog for long walks around Silvermere Lake and along the Stave River on which I live.
I start wearing the sweaters I knitted over the summer, and instead of donning just a thin t-shirt and a summer skirt, my clothing piles up in layers on top of me, so that I look like a young Mrs. Weasley—or a tea cozy, as the case may be. My husband and I make up our bed with the heavier blankets, a cozy nest of organic bamboo, wool, and down comforters.
Especially not after we eat it. And, of course, the best part of October is that the countdown to Halloween officially begins. This year, there is even more reason to celebrate my favourite season, an event that has never before made Halloween even more fantastic than it already is! This time last year, I had no idea that in nine short months I would sell my first historical romance to Avon, and make one of my dreams come true.
I had no idea that the book would come out so fast that my head would still be spinning and my heart palpitating as the countdown began! Once you become a romance author, Dear Reader, you never want to go back. I am extremely excited about October 30 th , and not only because my own book comes out. There is a wonderful reassurance there, as if my shy debutant of a novel is taking courage and strength from more experienced and renowned compatriots.

I am humbled to be in such illustrious company, and can only hope to live up to Ms. I feel like they will be my good luck charms. I can only hope to live up, even in part, to their achievements! Congratulations to them both, and to Avon, on their upcoming releases.
As for you, Dearest of Readers, please check back with me on any social media platform you like best this month, as I have some fun little giveaways planned, to thank you in advance for being so kind to me and my little book to be. I hope you will enjoy your beautiful, crisp October as much as I plan to do. If you take any pictures of your decorations, please leave me a link so that I can oooooh and ahhhhhh over your creations! Hopefully the initial praise will make the bad reviews easier to bear, because every writer has to face them eventually!
For me, I can at least say to myself—Not Yet! My first unbiased reader was the lovely and talented not to mention ridiculously handsome writer Michael Boccacino , the author of the eerie and evocative historical novel Charlotte Markham and the House of Darkling. Just knowing that he had read it and liked it was wonderful enough—but he was also kind enough to write the following concerning my debut book: They had published a review! I was deeply thrilled, as you can imagine, Reader. This is what Publishers Weekly had to say: Any positive or even just slightly lukewarm review from PW would have made me happy—but this review really made me feel like a bajillion dollars, because it took note of the very things I most wanted to get right.
One thing was the historical impact of war, not only on a country, but on the individual psyche. I also wanted to get right the mood of the two eras—for you, Dear Reader, to feel like you are really there with Alaric, a prisoner encased in Victorian Gothic splendour. Boccacino right, and that you will like it as much as they did. Drop me a line then, and let me know how you feel, one way or the other. I write these stories for you—they are yours as much as mine, and I want us to be honest with each other!
