The story of 5 American castaways, stranded on an island in the middle of the South Pacific Ocean is entertaining enough, although somewhat far-fetched.

As a group they are very resourceful, but they do occasionally require a helping hand from a mysterious, unknown benefactor. One great thing about this book, it closes the legend of Captain Nemo, the hero from 20 Thousand Leagus Under the Sea. During the Civil War, the engineer Smith, Neb his servant, the Spilett journalist, the sailor Pencroff and Harbert teenager to escape the southerners holding prisoners, fleeing with a ball. They land in calamity on an uncharted island they baptize "Lincoln Island.
It is a book of great and strange adventures where Jules Verne had fun with his immense talent to tell us this story. May 09, Dennis Lynch rated it really liked it. Part 1 is "Dropped from the Clouds" and Part 2 is "Abandoned". Originally published in France in 3 parts. It was fun to go back 52 years later and reread a book I thoroughly enjoyed in 8th grade.
It is sometimes very wordy, but one can expect that.
Note, this is the sesquicentennial of the death of a main character in this book. Good Read Always liked Jules Verne style at writing. Part of a series of stories. On to Abandoned linked to this tale somehow. Jup , o orangotango. Thought this was the same as The Mysterious Island but is only a part of it. Stopping this and reading The Mysterious Island from the beginning.
I do not suggest reading it without reading the entire book, as a reader you miss out on so much character development and storyline. Not bad Pretty good It wasent to bad ykou got to love Jules Vern no no no no no no no no. I have a bad memory. So, obviously, this title must have a special place in my heart for me to be able to remeber it so vividly after 20 years. My first big adventure book! Adrian Harrington Rare Books. No list of plates present so sold as is. Otherwise reasonably clean tight text has some spotting throughout. Book is a bit cocked and otherwsise out of shape. Covers are otherwsie reasonably bright and clean.. Award certificate dated Foxing to endpapers and page edges. Award certificate pasted in. Greville Press Pamphlets,
