Jan 14, Kimberlee rated it it was amazing. I'm so glad the author to the time to write this beautiful story of the Silent One Assassin and the beautiful Telepath that the SynCorp had been torturing. They make such a beautiful pair. Their stories so sad but so wonderfully woven together. I'm excited for the future to see what happens to the mighty Kordolian Empire going forward. May 15, Kelly rated it it was amazing Shelves: He was a MESS when we first met him and it took time for him to work through the conditioning he'd been subjected to and find something to focus on that wasn't all about mayhem and murder.
That thing he ended up focusing on? Noa, the human experimented on by SynCorp who now has a whole lot of crazy going on in her head. On the plus side, Ashrael has been trained in controlling the very thing driving Noa batty. Which is a major plus for her, because now she has someone who can teach her the ins and outs of not letting her newfound power get the best of her.
I really, REALLY liked Ashrael's transformation from a brainwashed assassin to someone willing to face down anything to keep his special someone safe. He seriously came a long way and it was great. Also, his complete focus on Noa was sex-ay. Assassins have insane focus, man. My soft spot for emotionally stunted warriors who fight hard and love harder is endless, it seems. I'm all in and I'm planning on staying this way. Nov 03, Lyndi W.
Again, jumping into a well-established series like this means there are a few things that just don't really compute, but they are so unimportant to the current story that I don't feel like I'm missing out on much. But the romance was on point, the conflicts were varied, and the characters were both developed really well. I honestly have no complaints. Actually, by the end of chapter two I was fist pumping because the heroine gets some crazy superpower and is like "I'm gonna learn how to rock this Again, jumping into a well-established series like this means there are a few things that just don't really compute, but they are so unimportant to the current story that I don't feel like I'm missing out on much.
Actually, by the end of chapter two I was fist pumping because the heroine gets some crazy superpower and is like "I'm gonna learn how to rock this shit" instead of the typical "omg my life is ruined, this is sooo hard" nonsense. This was a win for me.

Jan 02, Cindy rated it it was amazing. Surreal I think this is the most surreal part of this series. From Noa's music to Ash's near death experience it was spiritual in its intensity. Noa is from the 3rd book and one of the survivors saved when Abbey was abducted and found. I was hoping we would see her again. I loved her story and admired her strength.
She has the most intense of the Kordolians. Ash is honed to be a killing machine. The others are tame compared to him. Tarak is probably his only equal. Scary guy but what I love about Surreal I think this is the most surreal part of this series. Scary guy but what I love about this series is how the fiercest males are struck down by these beautiful and brave women. Dec 11, Nicole Timmer rated it it was amazing. Another great edition to the series, which I absolutely love. I was so excited to see a new book by this author. Noa and Ash were perfect together. Their 'powers' complimented each other so well. It was amazing to see them heal each other. Noa's gifts in particular were very intense.

Dec 27, Sommertime rated it liked it Shelves: I liked the alternate storyline with the silent ones instead of the same old Kardolians. I've enjoyed this series and look forward to more by this author.

Dec 13, Rosa Maria Garcia rated it it was amazing. Absolutely Wonderful This is such an awesome book with just as interesting characters? This is an adventure you will not be able to put down? Filled with steamy romance, suspense, and a very highly recommended series. Jun 27, Sonja rated it really liked it Shelves: Despite being incredibly aggravated with Noa at the beginning, I ended up quite enjoying this one.
Though that probably had a lot to do with Tarak acting like the badass General I love so much again. Oh how I missed this side of him. Noa was one of the humans rescued along with Abbey and the experiments done on her gave her a sort of telepathy. But it turns out it was more than that.
She now can harness and detect the same energy forces that the Empire's Silent Ones can. It kind of annoyed me the Despite being incredibly aggravated with Noa at the beginning, I ended up quite enjoying this one. It kind of annoyed me the big deal that was made about how she used to be some huge pianist before being taken. She even says some crap about having the world in the palm of her hand because of her skill.
I'm sorry, I don't care how good you are at playing the piano, you most assuredly do not have that sort of power. Most people wouldn't even know who the hell she was. She hates being stuck in the compound despite being treated well because she can't stand the overwhelming thoughts of all those around her. Her headphones help drown it out, but only to a point. She she sneaks away to find some peace and quiet in the middle of nowhere when she can. What she doesn't know yet is that that pocket of silence isn't because of the distance.
It's because of the captured Silent One near by. Ashrael is the Silent One that Tarak cut off his arm and captured. Despite Tarak's confidence that he will break the mindbond that compels Ashrael to kill him, Ashrael knows the most dangerous thing at this point is any sort of hope. So he bides his time and plays along. After all, what other choice does he have at this point?
So he's locked up in his prison when he detects Noa's presence and is immediately curious. She has no idea of what she can do and her control is non existent, giving Ashrael a chance at escaping. Too bad he didn't count on her determination and power, making it pretty much backfire on him. With Noa's display of power there, she has now come to Tarak's attention.
And of course, he's going to use any and all that he has to to get what he wants. Along with another like Ashrael, Tarak hopes that together they will be able to break that annoying mindbond on Ashrael. Which turns out to be a lot harder than they expected and they fail. But Noa refuses to let Ashrael die, and lucky for her the two of them have already mentally bonded and she's able to bring him back from the brink of death.
And that's when Noa started to annoy me. Ashrael had tried to take control of her body and succeeded to a point I think less than a day before. During that they already connected which formed a link between them. Okay, I'm on board with that. But here you've got Noa freaking out because she has begun to depend on this link and can't imagine going on without it.
Dude tried to usurp your will and control you and you can't live without him? What is wrong with you? Though that fails, they realize that when Ashrael is within a certain distance of Noa he is able to resist the mindbond that forces him to want to kill Tarak. So Tarak takes a risk with him and decides to go forward with his plan to topple the Empire. All the women are brought up to Silence along with Ashrael and Noa, and off they go to sector one.
During which time Noa works on her power, they strengthen their connection to increase the distance they can be apart, and plans are finalized. Ashrael was impressive to say the least when he finally goes down to Kythia to do his part. And for a second I thought he was going to not do it. Unfortunately for him, he doesn't manage to escape before being caught by his brainwashing mistress and thrown into a literal hell for one such as himself.
Which cuts the connection that he has with Noa, leading her to annoying the hell out of me again when she freaks the fuck out and starts almost destroying planets and ships when she gives into the darkness. In the end though, everything works out as Tarak wanted. Ashrael and Noa practically get kicked out of that sector because Tarak doesn't want him anywhere near them, and they go back to Earth.
Where Noa is able to come back from the dead and for some reason her brother still has one of her apartments. I'm just excited to dive into the last book and get more of my Tarak. This is is Noa's book. I have been always curious about her and how she got at the facility. At first I believed that she was an alien but then come to find out she is human. It was an interesting twist. We meet her when is plays music to Abbey to keep her calm. Noa is such a fascinating character. Her background is different but the way she goes through life currently is a bit depressing.
I get back to her in a bit. Ashrael is someone who has intrigued me from the beginning. Being called a Sile This is is Noa's book. Being called a Silent One is some serious business. You do not get that name unless you have gone through some things. The chemistry between the two was just okay. Noa to me felt a bit to needy. She was easily overwhelmed with everything and everyone. I understand there are a lot of issues that she had to deal with but for me she just needed to stop complaining and start doing.
The fact it took her to find a man, I hate when a heroine has to find a man to be strong and complete, just to get a bit of control was sad. The back story and all the different adventures was great. There are so many questions that I wanted answered that I did not get but that is okay. The ending left a lot to be desired however.
I do not understand how Noa can just go back to her life after all she has been through. It does not seem as though she has coped with all she has gone through. But yet she is back living her old life.

It is as though the past year has meant nothing. Dec 18, Grace Vincent rated it it was amazing. All of the series is great, but this one is my favorite. Ashrael was taken at birth because he had a sixth sense. He had his sight and ability to speak taken from him and he was trained to be the perfect assassin.
