The Visit provides horror fans with a satisfying blend of thrills and laughs -- and also signals a welcome return to form for writer-director M. For all its intelligence and craft, M.

Night Shyamalan's foray into the genre of found-footage horror has the feeling of homework done well. It is with some surprise-and perhaps even a hint of disappointment-that I must report that The Visit is merely mediocre and not the breathtaking calamity that we've come to anticipate from its author. Night Shyamalan's latest film may well have been his last chance at redemption. Fortunately, he rises to the challenge and makes The Visit good, scary fun.

It was fun watching this with a gasping and screaming audience. For horror-goers, the comparative competence must hit the spot.

But there's nothing new here -- and what I sensed for 94 minutes was compromise. An unoriginal faux-doc horror picture that actually works like a demonic charm. While "The Visit" bucks the trend of space-oriented films that start from a sense of wonder rather than fact, it does inspire the former, treating its audience as aliens to restore that all-too-human curiosity about what lies beyond our own planet. The Visit isn't on par with Shyamalan's early work nor does it excuse his recent atrocities, but going from dreadful to pretty good is still an enormous leap to accomplish.

If you've felt burned by Shyamalan over the past ten years, put your skepticism aside and take a chance on The Visit. It's well worth your time. The Visit is not a perfect film, but it is fun and as the viewer you may laugh out loud or gasp. The Visit is good. It lacks the flashiness and giant twists Shyamalan is known for, and this is a big plus for the film. A disturbing and creepy premise. It'll keep you watching until the very end!

I was expecting better from this one. It's not bad or good. Just a standard horror with some mild scares and decent acting from the kids. The grandparents were a little hammy. There was some real missed opportunities in this one.

The reveal in the end was creepy and I didn't guess it, but it could have been so much more than it was. I'm glad I didn't go and pay money at the cinema as I was considering. DVD at home was more than sufficient. Like watching old people kiss this film works on the aesthetic that old people are intrinsically weird, that they make you uncomfortable.

That premise gets old pretty fast. Shyamalan's finest movie in over ten years which isn't saying much actually is this atmospheric low-budget found footage film that finds a nice balance between horror and comedy, growing uncomfortable and creepy as the story progresses until it gets incredibly nerve-wracking.

Both the grandparents were good as well, but the grandma stole the show between the pair. In the end, I very much enjoyed The Visit. It was an absolute blast. The whole audience was really into it, which really added to the experience. This is one of most fun times I've had at the theater in quite some time. I recommend anyone to go see this movie, and see it with a crowd! Who would have thought Shyamalan was capable of making an intentional comedy?

The Visit is truly one of a kind, there's no other movies out there like it. It's so original and so unique, the more I think about it the more I love it. And yes, there is a twist.
