Godhunter - a Paranormal RH Romance (The Godhunter Book 1)
Mar 28, T. Another excellent addition to the Godhunter series. I loved the complexity of this story with it's mix of myth and unique worldbuilding. The Odin tie-in was unexpected and a welcome twist to the plot. Sumida is very clever with her story-building and layering prior books to keep the tension and action moving.
Sep 19, Galina Sulaiman rated it really liked it. Oath breaker Book three in the Godhunter series. Vervain the heroine is back with the Godcrew , her mate , Odin, and everyone from the previous books. I enjoyed the twists the book took. The fight scenes were good as well. This book was shorter than the others though, I'd prefer it was longer. Jul 10, Becca rated it really liked it.
Gods are so dramatic Oh, the drama! Love lives get complicated when you live forever and never age, and even more so when there's magic involved. Forever is a long time to love someone. I have so many questions Jun 23, Terri West rated it really liked it. Yet another entertaining read and life is getting hotter in more than one way for Vervain. Lots of twists and turns in this series and I look forward to the next installment. May 05, Tara Brune rated it it was amazing. Feb 27, Leah rated it it was amazing. Sep 04, Bec rated it liked it. I am impressed at the devotion of the author to add authentic facts and new and interesting myths too the story. Who wouldn't want a pack of perfect were lions to hug! The trauma she overcomes and the persistence she has with her men is glorious.
I hate that I just referred to them as her men, irks me. I want them to be stringer and more independent. But every time and I may be borrowing form future novels Trevor stands up for himself he is viewed with distain from the view of the So, nice series. But every time and I may be borrowing form future novels Trevor stands up for himself he is viewed with distain from the view of the narrator.
In the third book of the series, Vervain needs some time to just be herself and figure out how to rule a pride of werelions, that's easier said than done though. Now, with Odin asking for her help and Vervain having strange feelings towards him things are getting crazy for her. Not to mention the fact that she's still getting use to people needing her help. This was a little sad at times, but it was still very good. I was hoping Odin would get with Vervain, but we shall see. This one had a lot o In the third book of the series, Vervain needs some time to just be herself and figure out how to rule a pride of werelions, that's easier said than done though.
This one had a lot of stuff going on in. Vervain did her best to help Odin and the other gods, and she's still trying to take care of so many others. She really needs a break, but that probably won't happen for her. I can't wait for more! May 06, Julie rated it it was ok. I honestly think this will be the last book for me. I can see why people are comparing this series to Anita Blake. And for many that is not a compliment.
I stuck with that series far longer than i should have and dont want to make the same mistake here. I love the world building and the characters but the choices the main character is baffling. Her devotion to Trevor makes no sense to me.

This series just keeps getting better and better. Vivain has grown throughout the series so far, and when faced with past lovers, new enemies and impossible situations, she doesn't back down from the challenge. I love the snarky sense of humor infused in every chapter, but Vivain also handles the serious issues surprisingly well. I can't wait to see what happens next. I would definitely recommend this book to others. May 09, Brandi rated it it was amazing.
I absolutely love this series! Vervain is an wonderful heroine. I have to admit I still wish there was more than just Trevor as her love. That's a little messed up but I hate to see the other characters involved without her love. I can't wait to read the next book and highly recommend this series. Jun 15, Mallory rated it really liked it. Great point in the series I need closure you will keep waiting for the next surprise.
I absolutely love the characters and story plot. Jan 14, Mercy rated it really liked it Shelves: Can you love books that much? Vervain is or could be every woman, it's easy to relate to her, she is truthful, she is responsible and she is free from most of the human morality. Love her life including the fights, the kidnappings and the near death experiences. Mar 04, Martine rated it really liked it. Really enjoyed this much better than the last book, another huge twist in the life of Vervain, although slightly predictable!
I'm still not sure whether I agree with her choice. On with the next book! Jan 07, tracey welch rated it it was amazing. The story line is very original and extremely inventive and make is a very fast paced and fun read.

Not enough story and tons of dialogue and inner silly thoughts that don't have anything to do with the plot. I like the idea of the gods and there is potential. Just something missing for me. Also, they almost all seem to be about pages long. Buddy read with Reverse Harem Revolution.

At one point, I considered going back and redoing the first books, making them more refined and mature, but then I realized that this would destroy that beautiful progression. The Godhunter Series is a literary record of my life, and I decided to leave it as is. The concept of fighting gods came to me when I was studying religions. I loved how researching a civilization's gods gave such insight into their culture and daily lives.
Then I began to think, what would these gods be like, if they truly existed, and what would they think about the waning worship? Would they be angry? Hurt- mentally or physically?
Editorial Reviews
How would a god-human relationship work if it were a magical connection? That's when the idea of a bunch of dying gods, fighting for their sustaining sacrifices, came to me. What lengths would a god go to, to ensure that he received the magic he needed to continue to be immortal? I think he would go to any lengths, and those extreme measures would need to be dealt with.
Then the Godhunter was born. The journey has taken me through many cultures, and I've been able to dive into new versions of all sorts of supernatural beings. I've loved every minute of it, and I intend on continuing the hunt until I either lose that love or run out of gods to fight, whichever comes first. My sincerest thanks to all of you who have joined me on this journey, and continue to support the Godhunter through her crazy adventures.
Jun 09, Aisling Zena marked it as maybe Shelves: Oct 18, Bookvetter 5 rated it liked it. A proof read by someone who understands about punctuation for dialogue, and an editor who will see where it needs to be tightened up; my estimate would be it needs cutting by 50 pages. Vervain is a fun character to spend some time with — she is sassy, witty and no shrinking violet, well able to hold her own against the baddies and stand proud as an equal of the good guys, even if they are gods.
Vervain and the gods are well-rounded characters and the settings are described vividly. The action whips along at a cracking pace and it is great fun going along for the ride — for a while. Similarly with the conflicts; I eventually got bored with yet another fight, yet more injuries for Teharon to heal. I found I was speed-reading towards the end, keen to just finish it.
It could also be tightened up by a good editor. Overall I give it the thumbs up for imagination and storytelling ability, a thumbs down for the reaction to the rape and for lack of a final proof read. Jan 06, C. Erani Kole rated it it was amazing Shelves: She's not a necromancer, but she is a godhunter. If you haven't heard of Anita Blake, she's a woman known to be extremely powerful with a harlem of beautiful, strong sexy men, and she strings more of them as she comes into her new powers.
Why am I fanning about another series on someone else's book? Cause it's a compliment, because Blake is amazing despite her bad reviews, and it's a sexy, fun and terrifying read. This book- maybe even this series -reads just like it. Supposedly, Vervain is being compared to Blake, and in a way it's true solely for the fact that, like Blake, she's sarcastic even when in the face of danger, has no filter system, isn't afraid of all-powerfuls, and is strangely alluring to almost every main hottie that comes her way. Vervain has her own issues, but she gets her shit done, and even gets the hot guy.
Their story was adorable and funny, sad and dramatic but entertaining.

It's a must read for Blake fans. Dunno how I feel about the reasons for leaving a guy she seemed really good with. I may or may not read the rest. Feb 23, Casey rated it it was ok Shelves: I chose to read Godhunter for a few reasons. Boredom and the lure of a horde of hot guys was my mane d 1. Boredom and the lure of a horde of hot guys was my mane deciding factors though.
Yes, it was a bit much at times and I found myself rolling my eyes, but it was the only thing that kept me from getting to bored when things got slow in the story. Mar 07, Searcy rated it it was amazing Shelves: Vervain despite the horrible name is a snarky, strong, kick-ass character and I love her.
Even with all her issues. And that's part of WHY I love the character - she's not perfect. There is clearly some deep-seated trauma related to relationships that she struggles with all the time. This is definitely a story that revolves ALL around Vervain. She is the center of the universe and everyone is focused on her and everything that 4. She is the center of the universe and everyone is focused on her and everything that could possibly happen to her will, and does, happen.
So there is a little of that special snowflake going on Maybe it is because of the humor and fun with which Sumida writes the entire story. Maybe it's just that I have a tolerance for that, if everything else in the story works, and I like all the characters. Because, let's face it, I am reading paranormal reverse harem romance here folks! I WANT to be swept away and watch a strong, fun heroine overcome every obstacle eventually and get every guy she wants: That's the whole point of the extreme escapism! And Sumida has written a ton of great characters with depth and complexity and as many foibles and quirks as they have strengths.
It makes it very easy to connect with them and care about what is happening. Even more, the world-building in this series is stellar. Sumida has done a beautiful job of adding the fantastic to our everyday reality in a cohesive, consistent, and believable way. I find the way she has woven myths and gods and stories from so many different cultures together with her story to be fascinating.
And I am so glad there are 22 more books for me to enjoy! In addition to the trigger-warning, there is also a lot of sex in the series, but it is not explicit. Sumida manages to find a way to include it all, with plenty of romantic feels, but without great detail. Each scene employs euphemisms and romantic metaphor to let the reader know what is happening without spelling it all out. Or she employs fade-to-black implication. But I also love a good redemption story. So I am SO conflicted about Blue. I caught his gaze and the intensity of it scared me. I partially blamed myself for encouraging him with the swan thing -insert sigh here-.
Just as long as he didn't turn into a bush-lurking stalker, I'd be fine. I narrowed my eyes on him in consideration. Maybe I'd better trim the hedges around my yard. I think I am stealing it: There was a bit more sand in my hourglass. This one from Thor to Vervain is a doozy.
SUCH a lovely lighthouse metaphor. But I can't help feel it's as much about her power as who she is. Which is kind of a bummer, and a worry for the future of this relationship. Wonder if he really sees her. You're a lighthouse shining through the darkness, calling it home. One of the boulders actually had a lid which lifted to reveal a toilet. Very ingenious but also very frustrating if you happened to be a person unaccustomed to searching for a toilet inside rocks.
In real life, you gotta save yourself and the only happy endings are the ones paid for in massage parlors. Wet or dry it will attach itself to any part of your anatomy it can reach and those cool ocean breezes everyone loves so much? They are in cahoots with the vicious, alien-fungus sand and will happily fling a fine mist of the powdery annoyance all over you while simultaneously lulling you to sleep with its salt-laced caresses.
The beach is evil, I tell you, evil. Jan 20, Stephanie Ferrel rated it did not like it Shelves: It was just immature AF, and this is from someone who reads YA regularly. That aside, though, here were the reasons I tapped out. The whole introduction to how Vervain became the Godhunter isn't explained terribly well.
A dude tried to kill her on behalf of a god. She kills the dude and the god. Then, she decides to rifle through the god's stuff and thus, her new path is chosen. If a female doesn't fall within certain parameters in terms of how she looks is she not a woman? So there was strike two. How has the author not edited that racist shit yet? And it's apparent she knows she can differentiate by simply saying Indian and Native American as she goes on to describe two other gods as Native American.
So this line was a throwaway designed to be clever, I guess, and all it did was convince me to go ahead and close the book and choose to spend my time on other stuff. Kindle Unlimited has too many quality books for me to waste time on bigoted garbage. Jan 20, Kelli rated it did not like it Shelves: Even with curse words and sex included, however even those seemed more like after thoughts, added in later to make it more adult. I admit I was looking for another Lexi Blake Thief Series, and this one left me needing much more than it was giving. Oct 08, Hollie rated it it was ok Shelves: I'm glad it was offered as a freebie, but it definitely wont be a series I will continue.
Speaking of this as a series, I just saw that it has over 15 books in it now. And still little to no resolution or closure, and the books tend to end on cliffhanger. The thing I enjoyed the most was the humour and the occasional chat she had with the reader it made the book a pleasure to read but the action scenes fell a little flat and Blue was defeated too easily for my tastes. Jul 25, Tiera McMillian rated it really liked it. I thought this was a good book. I enjoyed seeing the different facets and personalities of the gods portrayed. I felt the connection V had with blue and her pain over his heartbreaking past.
It was unsettling the way Afro was portrayed I mean it gave an explanation but it was still a tad unsettling that someone supposed to embody love could have been turned so cruel. I like some pop culture references however one in every thought and paragraph the FMC has is just too much they lose their humor and become eye roll invoking. Inner monologues and recklessness point to immaturity at times, and she tends to ramble on and on.
Sep 26, Bec rated it liked it Shelves: So I'm a bit blah on this, it has potential but still didn't really wow. It could be because this was one of this authors first books so the writing is not very polished yet. While I can like the heroine I also can't get behind her selflessness and her warm and cold feeling towards Thor, mostly because I don't understand them I think, they aren't spelled out clearly enough.
I also think this book and probably the next are too long, definitely could have had at least a pages of filler edited So I'm a bit blah on this, it has potential but still didn't really wow.
