The Ambrose Beacon (The Solas Prophecy Book 1)
Every event is driven by character decision except for one Contrived Coincidence via Exact Eavesdropping and we can see that thought process taking place.

The problem here is that seeing many people's thought processes about many events bogs down the plot. Another problem is the all the ambrose kids and many of the adults have the same reactions to things, so it all muddles together when they fight demons, which is constant. It does, however, require editing. As elsewhere in this review, a lot of stuff bogs down the plot. The PDF I read was pages total very little happened in that time period. Instead of rapid page turning which I assume is the intention I feel like I'm slouging through it. Thinking of it as a Tv show, I'd say there's four episodes worth of plot material here; five tops.
When you have a page book, I'd expect something closer to I received nothing for this review other than a free copy of the book. Sep 10, Annie Page rated it it was amazing. The oldest was Cody then Dinah and Vaughan then the last two were Louis and there sister a girl called Billie. One of them was the Solas a Beacpn of light something that was good to keep Demons behind the gates. Some Demons escaped to get the Solas for there self. Uncle Harper took care of his sister kids while Jerry work. Uncle Harper was also an immortal and live for over years and had special powers but it would take more then the family to stop the Demons and no one knew which was the Solas of light to stop the Demons.
Sep 09, Imogen Owens rated it it was ok. I've got mixed feelings. Visit my blog to read my review. Author Alena Gouveia has covered all these areas well creating a story about a family whose lives are forever changed in ways that none of them would have ever dreamed possible. The way in which the story evolves allows the reader to become familiar with each character and their personalities from the young Billie Ambrose to the elderly Dolores Ramirez, grandmother of Eduardo who goes to school and is friends with Dinah Ambrose.
This book is hard for me to categorize as it is actually a mixture of genres, including mystery, action thriller, paranormal, suspense and even science fiction. Powerful tale of familial love and good vs evil, addictive reading once you get involved in the story. Sep 16, Sophia Bookwyrming Thoughts rated it it was ok Shelves: Original Review posted at Bookwyrming Thoughts Note: Formatting is lost due to copy and paste, along with pictures and captions Disclaimer: Review copy provided by author for review Let me blunt about The Ambrose Beacon: It also became the third unfortunate book that lands into my DNF list and the first fantasy book — oh wait.
Not exactly the first If it counts as paranormal, then The Ambrose Beacon became the unfortunate first fantasy book I didn't finish. So essentially, I give fair warning: I rated and reviewed it based on what I could manage to read so far. Which, I think I was being a bit lenient about, but I didn't throw the book against the wall, so it certainly didn't deserve a lower rating.
Now allow me to tell why I found it boring, and my general thoughts on it: They sound so similar they rhyme as well , that I was befuddled and mistakenly read Jerry as Larry and vice-versa when it was really the other way around. They're best friends and one of them is the main character. How confusing can that get? The characters don't seem to be in depth. While I get the why for Harper and Arianna, the other characters simply seem virtually pancake-like no offense.
Add to the fact that it suddenly switches POVs without some sort of sign.

One minute it's Cole, the next? Dinah, Jerry, Harper, Vaughn, etc. Probably one of my favorite things to read about, and it's not because they're sparkly and pretty and whatnot. But I was actually interested in Gouveia's take on fairies when the word was mentioned in the earliest parts of the book. Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be well written, nor realistic. I mean, doing magic in public. In front of human eyewitnesses.
More like superheroes than the sidhe. The same thing is repeated, but in different variations. Demons, demons and more demons. Generally I like fantasy. I love the creative worlds and character and creatures made up that gives me a free ticket to travel — okay, that applies to any book really — without having to move a single inch, and the very fact that you can't exactly buy a plane ticket to the area in the first place. Someone tell me if we can really buy a plane ticket to the Faery Realms if you so disagree on that fact. I wouldn't exactly try and mess with fairies in the first place.
I tried liking the story. I thought first thought it was because of reading The Jungle, which is dreadfully boring, and it may have influenced my thoughts on this one. Then I read Allegiant for awhile and came back to it. It didn't work out well either and Allegiant didn't bore me. So simply put, The Ambrose Beacon is not really my cup of tea.
Just finished this book, took me quite a few days longer than i expected and i mainly enjoyed it, though there was the fear my eye-balls would roll out of my head at times. I loved the assortment of magical critters scattered throughout this book. The characters were nice and easy to like, and there where plenty of animals, love animals. The different powers were interesting, plus there where some exciting twist and turns in the plot, always a good thing.
Now the not so gr Just finished this book, took me quite a few days longer than i expected and i mainly enjoyed it, though there was the fear my eye-balls would roll out of my head at times. Now the not so great. Holy Molly this book was so cliche! The change of POV was smooth and well done, the constant change to 3rd person, usually in the middle of a paragraph threw me off at times and was occasionally annoyingly convenient.
I know that doesnt sound terrible but i found it a bit silly what a 6 and 10 year old where able to comprehend, with the help of 3rd person explanation. Wonderful family dynamic, it was nice to see a mainly supportive and loving family unit for once, even if it came off as a little un-realistic to me at times, but then that may just be me. Overall it wasnt a bad story and had some rather nice qualities to it, but i dont think i'll be picking up the next book in this series - the story just isnt for me, though i can imagine others very much loving it.
I was approached by the author to review this book and I am so happy I accepted his request. The Ambrose Beacon is a fantasy novel that focuses on the Ambrose family. The family consists of the father, Jeremiah Ambrose, his 5 children and their uncle Harper the brother of their deceased mother. Just as the synopsis states there are strange things happening in their hometown Evergreen, Colorado. The book is written in the point of views of the different characters, which at I was approached by the author to review this book and I am so happy I accepted his request.
The book is written in the point of views of the different characters, which at first I thought was strange. But the more I read the book the more I enjoyed the different point of views. Since there are so many main characters, the switch from point of views allowed me to connect with all the characters in a shorter amount of time than most books. And I felt the author did a great job of writing the scenes, so well that the story flowed perfectly and it built up the suspense of the storyline.
There is non-stop action that kept me on the edge of my seat and I had a hard time putting this book down. The Ambrose Beacon is a book that I think middle grade, young adult and adult readers will enjoy. I loved how the children were loving and protective of each other, despite their age gaps. And there are subplots for example school bullies and the school dance that all readers can relate to.
I look forward to reading more from this author and I highly recommend this book!
