Nachtigall, Op 97 No 1. The absorbing six songs that make up Op 86 are all easily encompassed by Marie-Nicole Lemieux, not least because her technique is so secure that she can pay attention to the meaning of each song. To these gently lulling, timeless pieces, Lemieux brings the sovereign virtues of firm line and apt phrasing.
Lemieux rises to their challenge. Her partner is again exemplary in his discreet yet positive playing. A natural acoustic adds to the pleasure to be gained from this sensibly planned recital.

Alfred Meissner's "Nachwirkung" Consequences is the lament of a man whose beloved, for some reason, has left him. All he has now are wishes and yearning. Aside from one text-related change in the melody for the third verse, Brahms ' setting is simple strophic, never straying from A flat major.
In this E flat major song Brahms sets the first two verses to exactly the same music, varying the third. The changes occur in the second half of the verse where, instead of moving to E flat minor as in the first two verses, there is a brief flirtation with E major, a half step above the tonic. Just as a cloud or eagle will disappear or die when it tries to reach the sun, so must the narrator extinguish under his lover's gaze. Opening without a piano introduction, Brahms ' B major setting is in ternary form with a coda featuring repetition of the last line of the song.
In "Nachtigallen" Nightingales , also by Fallersleben , the narrator, surrounded by the sights and sounds of nature in full bloom, wonders where he may find his own "flower. AllMusic relies heavily on JavaScript.
