Der Schock: Psychothriller (German Edition)
Sunday's defeat ended Andres Iniesta's Spain career. Iniesta also scored the first spot-kick of the shootout. Spain was more urgent in extra time after being too passive for 90 minutes. Spain led in the 12th minute when Ramos helped force Russia's Sergei Ignashevich into an own goal when his back was turned to the play.
Ramos and Ignashevich got tangled up and the ball went in off of the Russian defender's heel.

A defensive error let Russia level in the 41st, after Gerard Pique's raised arm blocked a header by Artyom Dzyuba. Dzyuba's penalty kick fooled goalkeeper David De Gea to dive the wrong way. We believed that order, discipline and dedication can beat class. The king is a soccer fan who, as crown prince, attended the World Cup final in Johannesburg to see Spain beat the Netherlands Russia was represented by Prime Minister Dmitry Medvedev, who was on his feet and leaning on a protective barrier to watch the shootout.
The Prologue sets the scene with Froggy, a child who is not comfortable in his own skin and whose parents are strict to the point of brutality. When they decide to go into the nearby town of Beaulieu-sur-Mer Jan decides to remain behind. However, when he gets a phone call from Katy asking if Laura is with him, the questions and panic start to rise. The themes that are dealt with and the level of explicit language made this a little uncomfortable for me.
Whilst I am sure that other readers would argue that this is real life — or real death — I am not sure that it is necessary to such detail. However, the writing is fluent and the plot also flows well, culminating in the surprise at the end. Unbelievably bad writing - so poor one wonders how it ever got published. The 'story' makes no sense and there are plot holes in it you could drive a double-decker bus through. It was self-indulgent tripe from start to finish. I cared not one iota for any of the poorly-drawn characters and quite how the author expects you to believe that bodies of neighbours and boy-friends can be discovered and his characters just gloss ov Utter puerile rubbish.
I cared not one iota for any of the poorly-drawn characters and quite how the author expects you to believe that bodies of neighbours and boy-friends can be discovered and his characters just gloss over their discovery and race around Germany as though nothing has happened is ludicrous in the extreme. When her phone is discovered with a brief video of a man with painted black and white stripes on his face, Jan realises that there's a much more sinister reason for Laura's disappearance This book started off really well. I think due to the translation it didn't flow as well as it could have, which affect When Laura goes missing during a storm after an argument with friends, new love interest Jan is worried about her. I think due to the translation it didn't flow as well as it could have, which affected my enjoyment of the book but this is no fault of the author. However the story did become a little ridiculous in its plot.
And whilst Laura's mother was portrayed as a very unlikeable woman, I feel it went too far at times. There were several mentions of the fact that she's an ostomate and all very negative. I honestly think there was no need for this, particularly as the comments are offensive. One of the reasons it lost a star for me. I would like to thank Readers First for a copy of this book in exchange for a review. Aug 05, K. Okay, so here's the thing.

A while back, I was going through my local library's catalogue looking for translated fiction. And this one came up. Colour me shocked when I got to the library and found out that I was all kinds of wrong. Still, I f Trigger warnings: Still, I figured that I'd read it because, like, I was behind in my translated fiction reading goal.
And certainly, the premise sounded fascinating.

Uuuuuuunfortunately, I didn't enjoy this much at all. But there was SO much violence towards women in this book that I just She's raped by the villain - who turns out to be her father???? Her mother was raped as a teenager and ended up a pregnant paraplegic as a result. The villain rapes and murders women who look like Laura's mother did as a teenager and preserves their corpses in resin so he can look at them forever. Partly this was my own fault. But while I liked the writing, I wasn't mad keen on basically anything else.
It ticked a goal box, so Oddly, I really liked the very beginning of this book, but then, as it progressed, I lost interest and never got back into the story even though I finished it. I really wanted to like it, but I just couldn't.

I thought the story fell flat after the first couple of chapters and it was almost like reading a different book. I'm sure there are people that will enjoy this and I encourage everyone to read it and make their own decision about it, but it just wasn't something that I could enjoy.

This review is based on a complimentary copy from the publisher, provided through Netgalley. All opinions are my own. This book is ok. The plot is a bit silly at times, without spoiling the story, are we really meant to believe no one noticed the boy's physical differences? The blurb tells us 'the only clue her friend Jan finds is her phone- with a disturbing video in the memory', but the video isn't disturbing in the least and you could erase both elements, the phone and the video, from the story and it wouldn't make any difference.
I assumed the phone would be a vital link to the victim but Jan just uses it t This book is ok. I assumed the phone would be a vital link to the victim but Jan just uses it to make a few phone calls.

A woman is abducted in France. Her friend finds her cell phone and with this information he follows her back home to Berlin. There the chase for the abducter, who turns out to be a serial killer, starts in earnest. The storyline is good, up to a certain point, and then it starts to wander.

But the style, the writing is lacking something. Perhaps it is due to the translation it was originally published in German. All in all, after a good start, a bit of a disappointment. I was surprised how fast the book was reading. I felt like I'm in the book inside myself. The plot twists weren't so unexpectable but it was still very interesting to read.
