A Scandalous Match
How does this one compare? Yes, I have heard this narrator before and was the reason I bought the book. She is fast becoming one of my favorites. If not for her performance this would have gotten a much lower rating. I have bought all of the books she has narrated currently on Audible.
Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry? I kept thinking that this book should have picked up the pace a little, so was not in the moment enough to really feel anything extreme. I thought this book was okay and had very good narration. The story is a little slow, but has some good things going for it. For these reasons I feel you have to read it to move the series along, but it may not be the best from this author.
He had stared for a moment and then smiled at her, delighted to introduce her to the world of interior decorating. He started over, asking what colors she favored, whether she enjoyed patterns, and which fabrics she preferred. Answering these simple questions Rey felt some of the tension leave her shoulders.
It was a great joy to find a person whom took her ignorance in stride and did not make her feel small for it. In fact, he seemed to find a great deal of joy in discussing matters with her. After well over an hour, having received answers to his questions, he promised to return again with several drawings to help her narrow down how she would like to proceed.
Rey thanked the man for being so gracious. He merely bowed as he left and said it was his pleasure. Shortly after, Beatrice arrived to inform her it was time to prepare for dinner. Rey glanced at the clock, shocked to find so much time had passed.
A Scandalous Match
Arriving back in her room, Rey allowed Beatrice to dress her in a royal blue gown with a black sash and ruffled detailing along the bottom. Sitting at her vanity while the maid curled and styled her hair, Rey studied her reflection. Considering it would be only herself and Ren dining, Rey felt very overdressed, though she had to admit the color looked very nice against her skin. Rey glanced at Beatrice through the mirror. As the maid was likely to be her constant companion in the coming years, she decided to get to know her better.
Beatrice pinned a curl into place as she answered. Rey watched her maid through the mirror, noticing sadness in her expression. Beatrice swallowed, sadness evident in her expression as she pinned another curl. Rey turned to face the maid. Beatrice inhaled shakily and nodded. Rey then turned around to let her finish curling and pinning her hair. Once she was deemed ready by her maid, Rey walked to her door to head down to the dining room. Opening the door, Rey was surprised to find Ren waiting for her. Knots formed in her stomach as she blinked at him in surprise.
She had spent much of the afternoon mulling over their previous encounters and now wondered what would await her at their dinner table. Ren said nothing to her at first, merely inhaling deeply and then exhaling as he looked at her. Though it would appear he had been waiting for her, Rey noted surprise in his expression as his gaze traveled slowly down and then up. Rey felt a blush creep up her neck at his perusal and shifted uncomfortably.
He stopped short of looking her in the eyes. Clearing his throat as he averted his gaze, Ren nodded at her and offered his arm. Rey took a steadying breath and nodded, taking his proffered arm. She was surprised at the jolt that ran through her when he placed her hand in the crook of his arm.
Though he had done much the same thing the day prior at their wedding reception, Rey had been in too much of a daze to notice. As they walked towards the staircase she reflected on the fact that it had only been a single day since their wedding. It felt as if a lifetime had passed in the space between her walk down the aisle and her walk down the staircase this evening.
As they entered the dining room, Ren showed her to her seat. As he took his own, Rey stared in front of her, frowning at the place setting with its vast assortment of silverware. She wondered how she had managed the luncheon the day prior, having no recollection of it now. Glancing surreptitiously over towards her husband she found him watching her. Swallowing her embarrassment, Rey cleared her throat. Rey cocked her head, frowning in confusion when she saw what she was sure was a twinkle of amusement in his eye.
But surely he did not find hilarity in her predicament. In fact, Rey was certain the man must never have found amusement in anything, so severe had his manner been around her thus far. Pressing his mouth into a firm line, Ren pointed to the spoon at the far end of the long line of spoons. Rey straightened and held her head high, wishing to appear as dignified as possible as she dipped the spoon in the bowl and leaned forward slightly to take a sip.
Rey stopped, the spoon nearly at her mouth. She dropped her hand, looking at her husband in askance. He demonstrated again and Rey watched every movement with narrowed eyes, as he dipped the spoon in, expertly dragging it along the edge of the bowl to remove any broth which clung to the bottom before bringing the spoon again to his mouth and tipping the soup in. As Ren returned the spoon to his soup bowl he nodded towards her in encouragement. Rey swallowed and attempted to replicate his movements. She was successful at avoiding drippings from the bottom of the spoon but when she sipped the soup from the spoon he stopped her again.
Rey huffed a sigh of irritation, once again setting her spoon down. Dipping the spoon into the bowl, she again dragged it along the edge and up to her mouth, tipping it against her lips to pour the meager portion of soup in. When she looked back at Ren, he nodded at her. At this rate I shall be sitting here finishing my dinner come morning.
Ren pressed his lips together, his eyes alight with amusement. Rey barely held her smile in, marveling that the man before her had responded to her grousing with humor. As the meal progressed Rey began to rethink her earlier comment. With each new course Rey found her stays digging into her sides. She had used the time to think through their previous encounters.
The impressions she had thus far made were at odds with a man who would marry an orphan whom he barely knew. The dichotomy between the two versions of the man continued to perplex her. It had not entirely escaped her noticed the day prior that many of the peerage in attendance at their reception had sniffed their noses at guests such as the Smiths, though how they had treated her as Ren introduced her she could not remember. It only occurred to her after speaking that she had no idea what Ren had done with his day, aside from reading in the library in the morning.
She could not eat another bite. Open Preview See a Problem? Thanks for telling us about the problem.

A Scandalous Winter Wedding (Mills & Boon Historical)
This book is not yet featured on Listopia. Nov 28, Caz rated it really liked it Shelves: In A Scandalous Winter Wedding , readers are finally given more than a glimpse of the Procurer and we learn more of her backstory as she decides to undertake the search for two missing girls herself rather than finding someone else to take it on.
The two girls — a young lady visiting London with her mother, and her maid — went missing from their hotel one night and have not been seen since, and the Procurer — otherwise, Miss Kirstin Blair — knows that she has the requisite skills and contacts most likely to ensure a happy outcome. Cameron Dunbar, a wealthy merchant from Glasgow — and the man with whom Kirstin spent one gloriously passionate night six years earlier when she was making her way to London after the death of her father, intending to make a new life for herself.
Kaye does a splendid job here of showing just how well suited to each other Kristin and Cameron are; he very clearly admires her intelligence, her perspicacity and her pragmatism and respects her for who she is, while Kristin appreciates similar qualities in Cameron and admires his determination to do the right thing no matter the personal cost. This is very much a relationship based on mutual understanding and intellectual equality, which is one of the things that makes this second-chance romance work so very well.
Another thing, of course, is the chemistry between the couple that bubbles and sizzles nicely as the author allows the attraction that has never really diminished to build gradually until it becomes impossible for either character to deny it any longer. And the way she attributed motivations to Cameron while knowing perfectly well what sort of man he was felt really off. Cameron is a similarly appealing character — a successful businessman who has become so by dint of his own hard work and who, in spite of his illegitimacy, knows who he is and is comfortable in his own skin.
A Scandalous Match Chapter 1, a star wars fanfic | FanFiction
He sees Kirstin for exactly who she is and loves her for it, never for one moment wanting to change her or for her to be someone she is not. A Scandalous Winter Wedding provides a fitting conclusion to what has been a very strong series from one of my favourite authors of historical romance. Kaye always writes with intelligence and insight, her research is detailed and she rounds-out her characters so that they feel like real people with real dilemmas and real emotions rather than cardboard cut-outs.

As always I will not give spoilers but will say that though there are many twists and turns on this captivating roller-coaster of emotions, I will say also that its brilliantly written, has just the right amount of naughtiness and our Heroine and Hero most definitely earn their HEA. Thank you for writing this awesome book xxxxx. Nov 30, AnnMarie rated it it was amazing.
It can easily be read as a standalone story. I have read the other books in the series and each one has been a pleasure to read, all about how women who find themselves, through no fault of their own, shunned from society, or down on their luck. The Procurer matches these women to the needs of gentlemen who hire her to 'make the impossible, possible'.
Such as one woman being a cardsharp who helps the Procurer's client ruin his adversary by winning all his money. After reading the stories of those women, now we finally get to read about the Procurer herself in this book. We find out what happened to her to make her want to help women as she does. Kirsten Blair is the Procurer. She finds herself taking on a client whom only she can help rather than finding another woman to do the job. He is in search of his missing niece and her maid unsure if they have run away or if they have been abducted.
Kirsten has all the necessary contacts to ask the right questions to the right people in order to help him discover what he needs to know. Cameron Dunbar is the client, and he is shocked to discover that it is Kirsten that will be helping him. Shocked because 7 years ago they had a chance meeting on a coach journey, which in turn saw them having a passionate one night stand at an Inn along the way.
It's something neither of them has ever forgotten. To be working closely together now brings all those memories back and it isn't long before their mutual attraction comes to the fore again. A lot has happened in the past 7 years, too much maybe for them to even think of giving in to their desires? I have enjoyed all the books in this series, but this one has to be my very favourite. Finding out the history of Kirsten and realising why she became the Procurer was a relief because I've been wondering about it since book one. Reading about how she worked to help Cameron was exciting, not least because of how they go about looking for the missing women.
Of course, the romantic in me loved reading about their developing romance and how even if they might not see a future together they still manage to have some intimate passionate moments. Are the girls found, can Cameron and Kirsten have a future together. You will have to read the book to find out. Needless to say, you won't be disappointed, I know I wasn't. Nov 26, Michelle Cunliffe rated it it was amazing. I received this ARC from the author in return for a honest review, all thoughts are my own.
This was an absolute fantastic book, and a fitting end to what has been a brilliant series, and for me I can highly recommend not only this book but all the others as well. When I think back to the first book and all the other books, I was always curious about the Procurer, mainly why she started and what circumstances lead her to this profession, because as we know for a woman to have a career and earning I received this ARC from the author in return for a honest review, all thoughts are my own. When I think back to the first book and all the other books, I was always curious about the Procurer, mainly why she started and what circumstances lead her to this profession, because as we know for a woman to have a career and earning her own money wasn't the done thing.
So for me all the questions I had going round in my head was slowly being answered, and of course we finally have a name Kristin Blair is the Procurer. Obviously Kristin has secrets To find out what happens you will just have to read the book. There is one thing I must say is thank you to Ms Kaye for writing such a great series and I'm so looking forward to finding out what Ms Kaye's next book will be.
Dec 02, Jo-Ann Elizabeth Toth rated it really liked it. This is the 1st time I've read a book by Marguerite. I loved the story for it had a air of mystery from start to finish.
Improper Match: Scandalous Encounters
I had a hard time putting it down when bedtime came. I liked how Kristen Blair took a bad situation and made it into a useful way to live. Cameron Dunbar had a problem that only Kristen could solve because of the work she did. I loved the way Marguerite wove the story. She had some action in it as well as some mystery going on. She had past characters drawn into the story maki This is the 1st time I've read a book by Marguerite. She had past characters drawn into the story making it more real. I will be looking for other stories that Kristen was "helping" people.
Its a great story and definitely worth a read.
