In order to stay in Seventh Heaven and not be downgraded to a lower level she has to write an essay about the the best days of her life. In the essay we and Alex learn about herself, as she reflects on her life. I just speed through this book. I really enjoyed it. Alex in the story admits that she didn't live the model life all the time. She took these mistakes and reflects on them and shows what she learned from them and how she had to make the mistakes to get to where she ended up.

Part of what I liked is that Alex has to earn her position in Seventh Heaven and learns in earning that. Also, though things can be perfect in heaven, Alex has to learn to appreciate that and accept the perfectness that she tries to fight at first. I just enjoyed how Alex became a real person that I could relate to in the story. This is not a typical chick lit fluff type story that many think of when they consider chick lit. I think this book really does deserve it's spot on the top chick lit books.

I would say this is a good introduction to the genre book in my opinions and is a book that I would consider going out and purchasing to keep as part of my collection. It was the perfect book for me to read today. Yes, we miss those who pass onto the next life heaven, in this case. But it was nice to read about everyone in heaven having a great time and that families were together again. None of them wanted any of us left behind to worry about them. They were happy and loving it there. I also liked how Ms. Halpern explained heaven as being different planes 7th heaven is the best heaven; the 4th plane of heaven is where all the great musicians hang out -- not as perfect there, but great music!

Although, I did question the whole sex before being married in heaven! It was interesting to see that while Alex wrote about her 10 best days she actually learned more about herself and her life than had she not gone through that test. She realized what really was important in life and in death -- good friends and family. I've been reading some parenting books and this actually touches upon the one theory that I've been reading about lately -- saving your children actually harms them more than save them.

Everyone must learn to be responsible for their own actions and deal with the consequences themselves. Parents do not help their children by "saving" them from their bad choices. The main character, Alexandra, had to learn that the hard way. She was always the "miracle child" and treated as a princess. By treating her as such she never learned to behave as a responsible adult until much later in life. Thank you for writing this for me right now. I really needed it and thoroughly enjoyed it.

She gets to her house, and discovers that it's the house that she's always dreamed of, and has everything she could possibly imagine in it.

After some time in perfect bliss, she finds out that it could all be ripped away from her as she would be 'demoted' from seventh heaven to fourth heaven if she doesn't write a good essay on the ten best days of her life.

The essay was basically to find out if she deserved to be in seventh heaven by having fulfilled her life in a good, respectable manner. The novel basically is a combination of what happens to her in heaven, and her essay. At the beginning, Alex isn't an overly lovable or respectavle character because she comes across as snotty, spoiled, narrsistic and self-entitled which at that time she is.

The character development in this book is great though, and I loved watching her transform. I loved Halpern's vision of heaven though, and how you had to earn your right for the best, and the sense of reunion with her relatives, yet her concern for the feelings of her family and friends on earth. The book does have some moments where it's kind of boring and monotonis, but it's basically your typical chick-lit book--easy to pick up and put down as needed.

So what's worth more to Alex -- the glittery designer stuff , or the people in her life? This book was way more poignant than I expected from a book with a cute chick lit cover. I was often annoyed with Alex and her shallow attitude even in Heaven it's all about what designer she's wearing , but the deeper Alex digs into her life and the meaning behind it, the more likeable she becomes.

I even teared up at the end. Granted, at eight months pregnant it's not hard to make me weepy, but I found the ending especially moving. And I hugged my boys just a little tighter this morning. The girl freaks out and the rest of the book is about her 10 Best Days. In my opinion, the girl was spoiled and selfish and while at the end, sort of redeemed herself, I still don't think she deserved to stay. She was an only child and her parents looooved her and totally spoiled her and she turned around and abused it. More then half of her "best days" had to do with being spoiled rotten and getting away with everything.

Yes, in her mid-twenties, she did turn her life around, but not without a little work and a lot of luck.
