I read Maya's first book in her series of autobiographies and it piqued my interest in the relationship she shared with her mother and thus I picked up this book next.

How grateful am I to have picked it up and read it because it is such a beautiful account of the years Maya spent with her mother and all that she gained from her. Her mother was a phenomenal woman herself and the book shows the reader how having such inspiring women as mothers and grandmothers can affect a young girl and the choices she goes on to make. Maya's mother left me speechless with the love and openness she infused into her relationship with her daughter and the way she chose to live her life.

If only we have more women like her, feminism would cease to be debatable as it is today because it would be difficult for people to treat women as anything less than equal.
