A Book Of Soul Stories
Book of Souls (Will Piper, #2) by Glenn Cooper
He found an extraordinary library that held information about the birth and death dates of the entire world population from the s until February 9, The auction is won by a wealthy man who has only 10 days to live according to the library , Henry Spence.
Spence hires Will to seek out information in the book about his family so that he can die in peace. When he receives the book, there is a document hidden under the back cover that appears to be a poem by William Shakespeare which contains four clues that will unveil secrets about the entire library. Will jets to England and stays with the former owner of the book and his daughter, Isabelle.
John Calvin moved toward his theories of predestination as a result, and the prophecies of Nostradamus were impacted as well. The most startling revelation of all, though, was in learning about how the entire library was created by a group whose lives were dedicated to writing the various volumes. I approached this book with trepidation, as I am not a fan of conspiracy thrillers centering around revelations from ancient documents.
In fact, the segments around John Calvin and Nostradamus were quite fascinating. He has recently married, after a lifetime as a womanizer; and his failings make him a very human protagonist. As you might imagine, the book is sought after by others who are up to no good; Will and all that are involved are in great danger.
I will post my combined review of the two books Secret of the Seventh Son and Book Of Souls here as one review, because the story really spans the two books. Very interesting and engaging. One question I kept asking myself, knowing someone's DOD, had someone ever tried to change it? Would Mark have continued living off of life support? That would change the view of the library and predestination.

Once you buy in to the idea that the government has a secret library that identifies the date everyone is going to die and has hidden it for decades , those connections seem positively normal. It's not like you have to work to keep grounded in a sense of reality, you can abandon all pretense right out of the gate which I find oddly liberating.
It's not going to win any prizes for literature, but if you like fantasy and historical fiction, it's kind of interesting. Nov 01, Kristen rated it really liked it. The title turned me off sounded kind of sacreligious, but it's not and it started out kind of slow but once it picked up, it was a page turner to the end.
