Welcome back to the 5 th book in the Waite family series. Mar 28, Ellen rated it it was ok Shelves: Every second one of Barton's books has me wanting to never read another book by her again. And then the next one is fine. I think I know the problem, she's trying to publish too many books too often so one book is fully formed and then the next is bad. Alyssa was seventeen when her father died and she inherited everything from him.
Her mother, uncle and two older brothers w Every second one of Barton's books has me wanting to never read another book by her again. Her mother, uncle and two older brothers were cut off almost completely and her mother and uncle hatched a plan to help him fill the conditions imposed for his share, marriage to a good woman and having child. Alyssa's mother drugged her so that her uncle could make use of the fact she was " breedable ". Also Alyssa was very aggressive for almost no reason towards Cain, unless she was proving how independent she supposedly was.
Injured with a cut that needs eleven stitches is not the time to be pushing a kind doctor away. At one point she is found in "a pool of her own blood" and her response upon waking is to try and leave the doctor giving her medical care? I'm sorry but that's a TSTL move right there.
Finally, this series shares characters with the Grant Brothers series but time has been skipped nearly twenty years as all of the Grant brothers' children have left or are about to leave home. Which annoyed be because I want to know ahead of time when books skip time like this, however I haven't judged the book on this. I give this two stars, because the editing is vastly improved and the story makes more sense than the last, however I know that this author can do better and has before so I am very disappointed.

I got it for free from Amazon some time ago and I thought the cover was cool. Talk about judging a book by its cover. For more than half of this story, I was yawning and trying to stay awake because nothing really kept me awake. I mean, believe it or not, I actually wanted to study for the Physics test I had the next day I think it's never happened before The book started kind of okay, but it only got worse from there on. I felt like every From my blog.
I felt like everything was rushed and there were too many things that made me want to yell at somebody because it was just bad. Oh, I mentioned that the story was rushed, right? Because there was another half of me that felt that it just dragged and dragged or maybe it was just because I wanted it to end so badly.
Maybe it could have been a good story I did think the blurb sounded good enough , but it was not carried out well enough. Those are really the only good things I can think of and that's a shame because I was hoping for a lot more. Should you read this? Do you wish to die a slow and painful death? This book did have its strengths witty dialogue , but it didn't balance out everything I disliked. I wouldn't bother reading it. Sep 12, Niki Driscoll rated it really liked it Shelves: I thought this was a storyline that was built on a unique concept. I have been finding that Ms. Barton has been incorporating some interesting moral elements in her storylines and this one was no exception.
Homeless are overlooked, treated badly and often treated as throwaways. One should be careful of how others are treated as you never know when o I thought this was a storyline that was built on a unique concept. One should be careful of how others are treated as you never know when one of those unwanted people might own your building. Cain is a different type of character, he loves his sisters but looked at Alyssa like she was doing something wrong by living the way she did.
He did however treat her homeless friends with more respect then I thought he would raising my opinion of him highly. I like how the author intertwines some of her series. This one overlaps the Grants and I had fun reading about how they had evolved as characters. This story lays the foundation for the ones to come so there is a lot going on and it jumps from place to place.
There are a lot of different sub characters introduced and many players involved in the plot. I liked the storyline , characters and loved the drama you will not believe the parents of these characters, unbelievable finding myself smiling at some of the interactions.

I was left with some questions that I know will increase as the series continues, however I look forward to figuring them out as I continue with the next book. I was given an ARC for an honest review Feb 12, Kelli rated it it was ok. I was honestly a little disappointed in this book and can really say this an example of "you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover. Most books I fly through and have trouble putting down.

This one, I had trouble making myself finish. It wasn't that the story was bad, but it was just not at all believable. I know, I know I just had a hard time with it. Cain a doctor meets Julie homeless from I was honestly a little disappointed in this book and can really say this an example of "you shouldn't judge a book by it's cover. Cain a doctor meets Julie homeless from the streets and falls in love at first sight with her. Everyone else looks at her and sees a dirty, messed up person living in a box but not him?
It wasn't just the "hard to believe" part of the book, but also the fact that the writing was almost formal at times. That may sound silly, but it made the story difficult to follow at times because it wasn't as if they were just talking to each other as many books do. Bottom line, I didn't hate this book, but I sure didn't love it either.
Not sure that I will give another try to a Kathi Barton book if this is her normal writing style either. Jan 27, Ginny Rose rated it really liked it Shelves: I liked the storyline and how the conflicts among both characters were stretched out. I especially liked that both hero and heroine were strong characters.
Cain, older brother, and basically protector of his five sisters was attracted to Alyssa who needed that type of protection herself. Now, this is what I loved about Alyssa, she needed protection, but she did a good job defending herself when necessary. I liked that she wasn't some helpless damsel. The only thing I had issues with, the reason I liked the storyline and how the conflicts among both characters were stretched out. The only thing I had issues with, the reason I didn't give this book a five star review, the dialogue.
It was done in a conversation format, and although you felt the characters feelings, it made it difficult to know who was talking at times. I found myself re-reading some sentence two or three times because it was confusing as to who was talking to who. This was a good read, and I will without a doubt read the other installments in this series. Jun 01, PattyPepperpotts rated it it was ok.
Quite frankly, it still has its Kathi Barton signature all over it, same thing we saw with the Grant Brothers series - sexy and strong characters, explosive high drama contexts and backdrops However, the flow of the narrative became an issue for me and the development of the love story seems a bit hurried, or it seemed as if some very important scenes were skipped out and we got a concise version of the love story development.
It felt like one moment they just met and were attracted to each o Quite frankly, it still has its Kathi Barton signature all over it, same thing we saw with the Grant Brothers series - sexy and strong characters, explosive high drama contexts and backdrops I do understand that some stories fall under the love-at-first-sight or the hyperspeed love story category, but this one felt incomplete somehow in development.
Still an interesting read, specially if you're looking for glimpses of the Grant family you've missed. Apr 15, Charlotte Blackwell rated it it was amazing Recommends it for: Kathi Barton has done it again and sucked me right into her world. The trials and tribulations her characters go through just to find love makes her stories all the more real. I just wish my story would end the way hers does. Cain introduces us to the Waite family and from there we meet some wonderful characters and then a few not so wonderful. This story had me in tears a few times, but the ending OMG the ending Another great thing is we get to see what has been happening to another Kathi Barton has done it again and sucked me right into her world.
Another great thing is we get to see what has been happening to another family of Barton's we have come to love I recommend this to anyone who needs a little romance but enjoys a little action. You will not be disappointed. I can't wait for more books from this phenomenal author. Thank you so much Mrs. Cain Waite is a new doctor trying to get his start up in a new hospital. He has crappy parents who only care about themselves and getting their next buck rather than caring for their 6 kids.
But caring for one homeless patient will change Cain in ways he couldn't even imagine! After her father died her mother tried to marry her off to her uncle so they would be set and get the money Alyssa's father left to her. When she's been sta Cain Waite is a new doctor trying to get his start up in a new hospital. When she's been stabbed and has to be treated, she's left in the care of the handsome doctor. When these two come together it's explosive!
The drama the two families cause it just funny in a way, but heartbreaking at the same time. Sep 20, Patsy Hallam rated it it was amazing. The story was a fast read and had me hooked form that starts. I loved how Kathi brought in a few old characters from the Grant series. Cain is a doctor that has move back into Ohio area and seeing an old when when he comes across Julie how is hurt and is in need of attention.
Julie is not used to being around crowds as being homeless for the last 10 yrs or so has made he this way. From leading a life or her choosing Julie's world gets flipped back to poor to being homeless after meeting Cain and his 5 sisters but it's Cain world that will be flipped upside down more after finding out Julie's secret. Aug 29, Belinda rated it it was amazing Shelves: Cain introduces us to the Waite family.
You will meet some wonderful characters and then some you will automatically hate. This story had me in tears a few times and laughing and the chemistry between Cain and Julie is awesome and the ending is wonderful! Another great thing is we get to see what has been happening to another family of Kathi Barton's - a few of the Grant's make an appearance. Usually I have a hard time putting a book down, but with this one, I had trouble picking it up.
I figured after reading The Grant Brothers series, and one of The Hunter series that this one would be good. Boy was I wrong! I know it's fiction, but come one! The way he talks at times, and falls for her within a couple days, and asks her to marry him after what seems like a week?! Not sure if I want to finish this series now or not. Apr 10, Gisbelle rated it really liked it Shelves: The story line was very interesting and I loved how the author complicated the story. However, some parts, especially the dialog parts, were a bit confusing.
Sometimes I didn't know who was speaking. And I understand that the author was trying to make the dialog more conversation-like, but it was a bit annoying at least to me when it appeared to many time to count. Feb 11, Leslie White brooks rated it liked it. I will likely read the other books in the series to see what happens with all of the Waite Family, and maybe they will go alittle deeper into the relationship with Cain and Alyssa.
