I am also sharing how these books related to me personally.

I was first linked to the books on Amazon, based on other things I had read, in December They sat on my Kindle as I continued to read other ebooks. September, of this year, I felt led to start reading the Scott Blum books. After checking the order they were written, and the comment by the author, Summer's Path was the first I read. Although Waiting for Autumn was written first, Summer's Path is the prequel. As I read Summer's Path, I was reintroduced to concepts, such as walk-ins, I had first studied years ago. I wasn't sure then, and still I'm not sure, what I think of the concepts but the book shared many ideas about our journey through life that I found thought provoking.

Some of them also seemed to parallel things I was thinking about related to my own life. This book shared a specific journey about being open to life and intuition. Many concepts from Native American ceremonies to the eternal connections between parents and children were explored.

Again, these ideas were connected to things I had been thinking about and the book provided confirmation for me. The metaphysical and ceremonial examples in the book are concepts that are shared, to some degree, across different religions and belief systems. This book was a more detailed presentation of the bond between individuals and their children. Whether taken at face value, or as thoughts to consider, the ideas provide possible insight into relationships. Waiting 9 months from the time I was introduced to the books until reading them seemed appropriate.

Reading them when I did was perfect timing for me. The most significant "take away" for me was the concept of tuning in to my own intuition. Scott shared specific examples of how someone can know that he, or she, is following their own path. One that I remember was noticing connecting events, such as observing a clock at After I've forgotten the details of the book itself, the reminders that I am "in the flow" will remain.

See a Problem?

I recommend the books to anyone who is open to ideas related to intuition and things beyond what we see on the physical plane. I suggest reading one, or all, when it feels right for you. I have to admit that I have ambivalent feelings towards this book. I started reading it all excited and got really into it, but all of a sudden I just couldn't go on. And it actually took me a couple of months to pick the book again. What I like of the book is the different stages of the author's personal spiritual quest. Which started involuntarely and ended with full consciousness of what he was doing and going through.

I don't have a hard time believing that he saw all those things in the spiritual world, and not because it isn't true, but because many people make it seem so easy to do, and it's actually quite hard to get into that world. You really have to have worked in your spiritual growth to get a grasp of all that there is to see and experience there. But still, I do understand all the processes he went through and I think that they are always different for everyone. And some people do come into your life exactly to motivate this kind of quest.

What I didn't like about the book is that although he explains his process he really doesn't go much into the emotional consequences of it. He talks about the physical experiences but how it really impacted his emotional life is much of a mistery. If someone is really able to go beyond and enter the spirit world and see all that he saw there has to be some change in the emotional and spiritual body, not just the mental and physical ones. Overall it's an ok book.

I'm not sure if I would read something else written by him. Although I did have have high hopes for this book when I got it, maybe it's just me, or maybe I was expecting much more or something else entirely. I guess it all comes to each readers taste. It is impossible not to enjoy this book as a sweet story and, as one who went on a spiritual shopping spree for a few years and 1 had a soul retrieval, 2 went on vision quest and attended sweat lodges, 3 is now a Buddhist, I recognized a number of the rituals and healing ways conscious cooking is a nice one and enjoyed the menu.

However, I think there is a danger here of making a spiritual hodgepodge out of what is often long preserved wisdom that should not be diluted or adapted as it has been so long protected in original form to be given to us. As a Buddhist there comes a time when we take vows; and with the refuge vow we are saying that we have ended our spiritual shopping and have faith in what we are doing. The "new age" movement had the upside of introducing new thought to our culture on spirituality; something I think that was needed. However, the downside is that self appointed healers take a bit of this, a pinch of that and lose important concept and context and create followers who are truly earnestly confused.

I was so hoping that the ending would find Scott drawn to one or another of the cultures and was disappointed that it still felt like a hodgepodge of the various offering-all useful in their own right-but really not in combination with each other. The pain and angst of their conflict was just so p Oh my gosh! The pain and angst of their conflict was just so painful to read and I felt like I was actually experiencing it with each of them. My heart felt battered and sore, achy and so very lonely. DeRouen writes some of the most poetic lines as she leads us through the past as well as the present.

I could have highlight the whole book to show examples of her exquisite writing. With a look, a pause in speaking, a simple thought, she showed me every emotion Autumn and Sebastian felt and I was helpless to fall completely into this story and so disappointed when it ended. It does deal with one other trope that some readers may or may not love but I suspect you may pick up on that from the blurb.

If so, I will say that I felt the way Autumn and Seb initially reacted and then later resolved the issue was completely natural to the circumstances. The pacing is just right, secondary characters adding additional depth to the hero and heroine as well as to the overall story as well as tantalizing the reader with the hope of more from two of them. I really want a story for Brady and Lexi! I voluntarily read and reviewed an advanced copy of this book. All thoughts and opinions are my own. View all 6 comments. It was a sweet and emotional read.

This is exactly what I expected from a second chance romance. After a tragedy Autumn and Sebastian were apart and now after years they meet again. There were so many feeling between them. Their journey isn't easy, they have to deal with their past. I love their moments together. So intense and emotional. It was a great story. I'm looking forward to read more books from this author. Oct 19, Stormi Bewitched Reader rated it it was amazing Shelves: It is like all of my favorite romance tropes bundled into one amazing story.

DeRouen's exquisitely beautiful writing to all of that and you have the makings of this 5-Star read that I really hope turns into a series. But if I had to pick, I think my top 3 moments would all be made up of moments between Seb and Aria. There is something about J. I could feel Autumn's emotional struggles as if they were my own and Seb's turmoil and love over meeting Aria and trying to win her acceptance bled out of the pages and into me. I voluntarily received an ARC of this book in exchange for an honest review.

Oct 19, Shannon rated it it was amazing Shelves: I loved them sooo much! DeRouen heeded our call and gave us the rest of the story. Said in my best Paul Harvey voice…did I just show my age?!? Waiting For Autumn was everything I could have wanted for Sebastian and Autumn, and so much more than I could have imagined. Giving us glimpses of the past while moving the story forward, Ms.

DeRouen brought their story full circle. From childhood friends who were inseparable, to young adults falling in love, only to be torn apart by a terrible tragedy, to current day, with reconciliation hopefully on the horizon, I was so completely invested in everything Autumn and Sebastian went through, and were going through. A wonderful, beautifully written story of first loves and second chances. Sebastian and Autumn have a once in a lifetime love that began as kids, and I loved how J. DeRouen peppered their story with events from the past to highlight how they still affected them in the present.

When they're thrown back together years later, the slow burn that sizzles off the page until they find their way back to each other had me on the edge of my seat. I love all kinds of romance but what I think I enjoy the most is getting lost in a sweet and simple love story that has characters you can believe in and never want to leave. A decision and a few words made as teenagers changes the course of two people in love. Floating between their sweet past as childhood sweethearts and present day peels back layers. I love the discovery and my slightly erratic heartbeat needs me to turn the pages faster. Sebastian Kelly is like any young man in love. He has grown into good man who wants to right his mistakes. He is a man who has never given up hope or on his love for Autumn. His determination and steadfast commitment, depth and understanding make him almost perfect but it also makes him real. Autumn Norris loves with fierce loyalty and has to dig through a jumble of emotions to get where she wants to be. Her love for Sebastian was never in doubt. But the hurt and betrayal she felt is real and will take time to forgive.

About Becky Dingle

The slow build of the relationship allows the growth of both Sebastian and Autumn. Waiting for Autumn is a sweet, mature, easy read with just enough angst to make you a little anxious and enough love to make you feel good and your heart full. Shame on me, but J. Waiting for Autumn has changed the way I look at books. And when you hit the last page, all you want to do is to start it all over again.

I rarely feel really free while reading all of these books, but with this one, I finally felt like I live. Get those tissues ready! Oct 27, 1-Click Addict Support Group rated it really liked it. What a beautiful and heartbreaking second chance love story. Autumn and Sebastian's lives always intertwined with each other, until that one night were everything changed. What Sebastian went through had me getting angry because teenagers will be teenagers.

Despite the years that passed by since last seeing each other peoples attitudes had not changed. And that included Autumn's love for Sebastian. I hones What a beautiful and heartbreaking second chance love story. I honestly didn't know which way their story would go but I realized that no matter how much time or distance, Sebastian and Autumn's attraction for each other was still there in the forefront.

Even though it seemed like a lifetime but was actually five years later, Sebastian goes back home to face the past but is met with present and possible future he never would have expected. Can they get past the pain in order to have a second change at first love? I had missed all the highlights from beautiful quotes.

    Sequel to "Summer's Path"

DeRouen has a very unique poetic like style which augments the reading experience. My heart was put through the wringer in the best possible way. Waiting for Autumn is a standalone, second chance romance by J. It is an angsty and sexy romance that will touch your heart. I am voluntarily reviewing this title. Oct 26, Rejane marked it as nope. The heroine and her brother were 2 cowards. And the whole town a bunch of idiotic jerks.

Waiting for "real" reviews. The ones with "too emotional", tugged in heart", "captivated from 1st page", "palpable emotions" etc. It's like something is hid in the details. I need more than "characters were so great and made for each other". Wait I will until spoilers. But my GR friends Dilek and Leonor already passed it, so this is already a negative against the book. Will they be able to forgive, forget and finally be able to move on? Will Autumn and Sebastian finally get their happily ever after??? Waiting for Autumn was everything I wanted and then some. This story tugged at my heart and gave me all the feels. I was captivated from the very first page and I hung on to every word. Waiting for Autumn is a book that you can easily finish in just one sitting and I dare you to not devour each and every word. This story will consume you and keep you begging for more. You experience each moment, each emotion right along with the characters as if they were your own.

This story is complicated, yet beautiful as the same time. Waiting for Autumn is the perfect story to spend your day getting swept away in. The story captivating you and making you fall in love with the very first page. The characters are real, flawed and perfectly imperfect. Their love and pain is the kind that is worth fighting for and never giving up on. Oct 22, Brina rated it liked it Shelves: DeRouen ever since reading "The Over Duet" by her last year.

That's why there was no doubt in my mind that I would pick up her latest standalone novel, Waiting For Autumn. Since my expectations were pretty high, I was slightly disappointed that the story didn't live up to them. The story of this second chance Contemporary Romance was good but also a little unbelievable and too dramatic in my eyes. I'm 3 Stars Read this review on October 25th on the blog: I'm not really sure if the events in the beginning of the book would unfold like this in real life.

It seems a little too drastic in my opinion and not something someone would do. I might look at it a little too naive but come on, it was definitely a little too much. Also, I might think "too German" but it's always good to have a liability insurance! He was funny, kind, charismatic, honest, and smart. I felt really sorry for him and his situation. He has been wronged by so many people, and why was that? Because he was held responsible for something he didn't do. Something no one could have prevented. Events that were simply unfortunate and unlucky, an accident.

The fact that no one really helped him is beyond my understanding. I'm not really sure if I liked Autumn. She was okay I guess, but definitely not one of my favorite female heroines. What I definitely do know is that Aria was a little annoying and really spoiled. What I really did enjoy was DeRouen's writing style. She has a way of drawing someone into the story and wanting more more more. Even though Waiting For Autumn turned out differently than I had anticipated, it was a very cute and decent story with an amazing male hero.

Nov 02, Ellie rated it it was ok. What a complete letdown. If you don't want to be spoiled, you should stop here. Hero Sebastian was too soft. It was too much, and the resolution of such a mess didn't measure up, like the satisfying completion of an idea never formed. The inclusion of the dreaded secret baby trope could hardly make it worse Seb's overall character wasn't an accurate representation of human nature and shows a lack of understanding of said nature, while the bias towards the heroine was obvious.

In reality, the book should have been titled 'Waiting for Sebastian.

Waiting for Autumn by Scott Blum

Yet the implication I got was that he had to earn his right back into everyone's lives even though he'd done nothing wrong other than to be part of an incident where everyone was being less than responsible. So, the fallout that ensued, where he was shunned by everyone he'd ever loved and trusted and run out of town by his own father, does not compute. And how Autumn figured she was the wounded party was inconceivable, particularly since her actions sort of trumped everyone else's.

In the end, this book is a Hallmark story, syrupy sweet and shallow and too easily resolved. Seb was too girly, too soft and needy. His insta-love for the kid was embarrassing and mushy and just too female. Also, he had a beard, and that's always a turn off. This book will appeal to anyone who likes their stories sweet and easy and don't mind when an angsty plot is circumvented by a kid. Oct 26, Big Joe Rossi rated it it was amazing.
