Vital Records of Rhode Island Vol. 18
They were typset into 21 volumes, plus an extra volume for Rehoboth, Massachusetts, which originally contained portions of what is now Rhode Island. Some of the copies are poor quality, however, they may be better than nothing if you are far from a library that holds these. I own a couple of these on paper so if you get stuck with an unreadable page, or, if you find another copy online that is clearer, please leave a comment.

The compiler believes that not more than a quarter of what should have been placed on the Records has been placed there from the year to Before that time probably more than half of the matter was recorded.

This is why, after recording town records in volumes 1 — 6, Arnold produced another 15 volumes of vital events gleaned from church, military, and newspaper pages. Remarkably, he utilized the local repositories to review each issue of the original newspapers, sometimes eventually missing a few issues, which were not preserved, but in a remarkable number of cases, he found all early issues. Note that each entry is preceded by a volume and page number where the original item can be found in the town records. For newspaper entries in later volumes, newspaper dates are given. I wonder if Anon. Benedict William, Nicholas has been proven to be correct. Was a ship captain and built my families house on Miller Street. Would love to know more about him and a picture would be great. Sounds like you live in a historic house! Perhaps someone will see your query and have something to tell you, but generally, learning about the folks that came before us is all about doing our own research — a trip to the library, looking at deeds at the town hall, that sort of thing. I wish you success in your search!
DOB , R. Am also trying to find out if James had an ancestor related to any of the Mayflower passengers. Am hoping to find George was with the, Pawtuxet Rangers in the Am. Anything is a help from any one. They are unlikely to have Mayflower roots although any family could have married in so anything is possible. If you have one ancestor from the Revolutionary war era, you must have many, you should learn about sources for such information in each state they lived in.
No way around that anyway since if you applied for membership in a lineage society you would need plenty of documentation. I doubt any Rhode Islanders were related to Salem residents in the late s except as distant cousins. Arnold is an extremely common name and James Arnold even more so — there would have been a dozen or two in ANY decade in R. To learn more about any Rhode Island militia during the Revolutionary War, try to access the bibliography for R.
It will tell you where to find resources. Wish you a lot of success with the Arnolds. I am having trouble with Volume 8.
