Now play this version of charades with your class and then compare and contrast the experience in a class discussion setting.
Each student should work on their own. They should write a small essay that describes a double life they would invent for themselves in order to remove themselves from a situation they would rather not deal with. Ask them to think about how difficult or easy it would be to maintain such a double life in modern society. Do they think it would've been easier to do so in the Victorian Era or today? Why or why not?

Have the class split up into small groups. They should identify the 'couples' in the play. What do they have in common? How are they different? The differences and similarities should be listed in their respective circles. Oscar Wilde's work is full of entertaining dialogue, paradoxes, epigrams, and much more.
A great example of this is the muffin discussion in this particular play. Or the paradox of a Victorian Era character identifying the home as a man's domain. Have each student work separately or allow for small groups to identify at least one paradox, epigram, parody, or entertaining dialogue. Students should explain the purpose of the dialogue, paradox, epigram, or parody. Why did Wilde place it into the play? How does it reflect on society of the time or even today?
