The Glory Brigade The Narrow Margin Down Three Dark Streets Kiss of Death Demetrius and the Gladiators I Walk Alone Edit Cast Cast overview: Shelley Martin Richard Egan Boyd Fairchild Stephen McNally Harper bank robber Virginia Leith Linda Sherman Tommy Noonan Dill, Bank Robber Margaret Hayes Chapman, Bank Robber Sylvia Sidney Elsie Braden Ernest Borgnine Stadt, Amish Farmer Dorothy Patrick Helen Martin Billy Chapin Steve Martin Brad Dexter Edit Storyline A number of otherwise insignificant small-town stories erupt into drama when a gang of hoodlums decides to rob the local bank.
The day all Hell broke loose! Color Color by Deluxe. Also, love the fact that this features both Lee Marvin and Ernest Borgnine. Those guys battled it out lots of times in this era, didn't they? One of Lee Marvin's early movies without his signature silver hair. Marvin is young and eager, distinguishing himself from the other cast members by adding little details to his character. It would still be a decade before he became a superstar. While the movie is about a bank robbery there isn't much planning with these guys and during the first two acts they're hold up in their hotel room waiting for the right time to commit the robbery.
The rest of the movie is filler, a secondary plot on the hero, the bank owner and one of the employees.
Its good but with the necessary melodrama and love story. Here's a movie that's so violent that even the Amish are participating. There's a standoff and all Mature had to do was throw the keys to the truck outside. His son thinks he's a coward. The whole town has problems. Even Leith wants to run off with a married man.
Still, this is a nicer Leith than the one in 'The Brain that wouldn't Die'. Mature is a hero in the end, and he says 'Violence is bad, kids'. The description of film noir melodrama is somewhat apt, but it would be better to say that it's a melodrama that is interrupted and resolved by a film noir subplot.
