I love the cross between the "normal" world and the Otherworld. I bought this as an eBook and then got the Audiobook so I could start listening at work and once I did I couldn't stop until I finished.

I couldn't read it fast enough and I hated when I had to focus on work or do silly things like sleep! There was a lot going on in this book and at times I felt like there was a book before this one that I might have missed but that is not the case. There are also some times where things were left unresolved, but overall I really enjoyed this one. Ella and Vadim have some awesome banter and while there is some heavy stuff happening and there are several sad moments Mrs. Pearce was able to keep the pace going and keep us guessing as to what will happen next.

Ella was just spunky enough to make you both love and hate her all at once and Vadim sounds like sex on a stick and he has plenty of sarcasm to keep Ella on her toes.

I was sad to see the ending of this one was a bit of a cliffhanger but thankfully I was prepared with the second book in the series Death Bringer. I really hope Mrs.

Pearce is going to write more in this series. I will grab them up and devour them without question! Also as a side note: Pearce has this series listed as non-erotic romance on her website don't worry there is plenty of steamy sex between these two-enough to make me wonder what she requires in a book to be called erotic!

Ella works for the San Francisco SBLE supernatural law enforcement , using her emphathic powers to keep Otherwordly beings in check and to keep them secret by excising the memories of any humans who encounter them. As gatekeepers between the human and Otherworld, Empaths like Ella are of great value to both worlds but being an Empath or Soul Sucker is not a great thing for the Empath - any Empath not mated by their 27th birthday is destined to go insane or commit suicide from the weight of all of those memories.

So when Ella's next case turns out to be the death of a 27 year old Empath, the initial assumption about cause of death is suicide, but when Ella tries to read the Empath's last moments Ella finds nothing - no memories, just traces of a evil Otherworld male and soon Ella is on the trail of a serial killer, the Siren, who is targeting Empaths who are close to their 'use by date' and Ella's own 27th birthday is only weeks away First of all, I loved the cover: I liked Ella, she is basically a decent person whose powers made for a crappy life - torn from her family as small child and forced into Empath training, and living her adult life without forming personal connections since she feels it's not fair to allow someone to fall in love with her when she's going to leave them by dying young.

Please try again later. Kindle Edition Verified Purchase. I wondered why the first book said next to nothing about the hero'sback story. Glad it was answered here. I do miss the days where a story like this would have been sold as ONE book and not two incomplete books if I hadn't taken a leap of faith and bought the sequel!

This is a truly awesome new series!! Great complex characters, and a fascinating new world of fae creatures, intrique, action and mystery. Oh, did I forget passion? It sucked me right in, and kept me turning the pages.

Also very well written. I advise reading the previous book first -- "Soul Sucker". So excited to find this new author in the genre of supernatural romance!! One person found this helpful. I always enjoy Kate Pearce's work. Excellent story telling, lovable characters and new plots.

She paints the picture well, good enough that it feels as tho I am actually there. Everyone wants to escape this reality this one is a great one. The female character in this book is really believe able and you like her, and her mate Death Bringer is so well written taht you are drawn into the story as the characters jump off the page. These books should come with a warning: Do not start unless you are prepared to ignore everything in your life until you finish them both.
