Makes no sense at all. I think you should just scan it and put it on WoG as a downloadable. Half of the comic's text is already written in this forum, anyways. Even if there would be no copyright for the comic, I wouldn't scan it because I would have to fold every page at the side of the book spine in order to get the comic flat on the scanner and that's a no go.

And I'm sure there are other people who would gladly scan their Gothic comic books so that other may read them. Hope I made my point clear this time. Christ, I'm not talking about "what if there wasn't a copyright", I'm questioning why everyone is so concerned with the copyright of this one comic when they don't give crap about anything else copyrighted.

My point is, Larissa, that if you don't give a shit about things not-Gothic being copyrighted - which you do - then I see no reason for why this feeble comic should be taken this much more serious.

Uh, since when is text not part of copyright laws, Werner..? The text below the image says it's copyrighted by the author. I doubt you have asked for his permission to use it as a representative image of yourself. I know I, and many others, would be delighted to read this comic book without necessarily having to import a copy of it exclusively from the US through eBay for a monstrous amount of money. And it's not like PB is losing any money on this deal. At least ask permission to scan it. All files in the download zone of WoG and of course the gothic music files too, are uploaded with the permission of PB. PB knows about the multiplayermod. They were asked in the german forum, what they think about it.

They do not support this mod, since it is indeed in a legal grey zone, but neither they did anything against it. WoG already tried that some time ago. But we did not get a green light for that. The next thing is that the comic was republished with an issue of a german computer game magazine. So I doubt we will get permission for that anytime soon. But you think they'd do anything about their comic book being spread through the web? Not necessarily on any website or on WoG, of course. If they don't care about people hacking their greatest game, I doubt they'd put much energy in getting copyright law-breakers into jail for scanning their comic book.

I didn't said that. I only said that in this case it's not forbidden to post the text of the comic. Believe it or not, at the time i got my ava from that page, there were different terms of use. It was clearly stated that his pictures can be used for personal usage, there was the explicit exsample "usage for forums". I just wanted to quote that from the page as i found the terms of use has changed. Besides that you cannot compare a little ava pic reduced size, openly avaiable at his homepage and a whole comic book high quality, not openly avaiable at the publishers homepage.

PB cannot decide for the comic. I doubt that they will bring people to jail for sharing this comic, but possibly you have to pay a certain amount of money resourceful, specialized lawyers are surfing the web day by day to find such things and make money out of it. That's one thing WoG does not want. I'd like to see the source for that information. As I can see it, copying text from a comic book without legal permission is the same as copying a song text, which is illegal. I'm not comparing anything, I'm wondering where the line goes before anyone should do something about illegal use of copyrighted materials.

Stealing a picture to use as an avatar not necessarily your avatar, werner, as you obviously did not "steal" it is less illegal than anything else? The image - be it small when viewed as an avatar - is still copyrighted, and using the image without permission is therefore illegal. Are images less worth than comic books, or what are you saying? If so, explain how this makes any difference to the law. Never happened to me, and I download "illegal" stuff by the minute - has done so for as long as I've owned a computer. I've never really heard about anyone getting into trouble for illegal use of copyrighted material on the internet or on the PC..
